Download the new version of v1.16f here!

Shouldnt it be called 116 G ? That would help with all the confusion.

I just uninstalled Civ3, reinstalled the game and the new patch. I am happy to report that the F keys no longer crash the game and the diplomacy advisor screen seems to work fine on my Win2K Pro. :)

I'm glad to confirm what Thunderfall reports. I did not install the old patch. I directly went from initial ver to patched with the proper one.

I experience no problems ! yay

F keys all good

The link on the civ3 site at this time is still the old patch file so get from Civfanatics as I did.

Time to start a new game !!!!!

I'm on XP

As to my question "Should I reinstall the new patch if I'm running an OS other then XP or 2K. I got this from Jeff.

"Install the new one eventually, but if you're not on XP/2k, you won't
see any difference. It's sole difference is fixing the XP/2k compat problem.

Thanks for your patience.

Jeff"

Thank you Jeff and I couldn't wait for your permission to post this. Me bad. :D

Actually, I'm running on WindowsME and observed problems with the Foreign advisor, science advisor and ghost artifacts on the advisor screens with the original patch.

After installing the updated patch, the problems appear to have been resolved so I would suggest everyone install the latest patch.

ditto here -- im on win98 and had the same problems with ghost artifacts and foreign advisor lines disappearing. this second iteration of the patch fixed it for me too.

those population numbers are still hideous though. :p

the problems with the crossbar and diplomacy screens have been fixed in the new patch. However there is still a problem when you play civ3 higher than 1024x768, it will show outline boxes of the city names all over the screen when you hit F3 and then exit form teh F3 screen.

arnel,
what OS are you runnig ... w98 or XP/2K???

... I have 98 and on a 21 in monitor run 1600 X 1200 .... hope Im not gonna have this ghost problem .... what are you doing, dropping your res down???

Oh, thank ***!

Thanks, arnel, for mentioning the link between the resolution and that offset problem. I don't know what it was about it, but it was driving me ******* ***** ******* **-***** **** crazy! *****!

Switched back to 1024 and all the little bad things went away. I'm going to go wipe the froth off my mouth, now and play the game.

Please note that the size of the newly publish version of 1.16f shows its size as 7485Kb, the earlier version was 7488Kb.

Hope that helps :)

After my earlier problems with the patch, I've now reinstalled Civ3 (having saved my SAVES folder first), and applied the new patch. Everything seems ok - no crashes anyway!

This could be a cool weekend after all!

I am sorry to tell you, but something is still wrong with the new patch.

After installing only the new patch (not the old, repeat installing only the new post 10:45 pm patch) my xp machine appears like everything is ok.

Then when I run civ 3 - it gives a "drive read error - please insert Civilization III disc into CD drive"

I have an original CD. Yes its in the drive

Well on my XP system when the new or old patch is applied. I cant even start up the game. So whats up with that? I have o reinstall to play with the original version. very very frustrateing.

Interesting, Exile_Ian.

I downloaded the "first" version of the patch, which seems to be the problematic one to XP/w2K OS, at about 1pm this afternoon, (home for lunch, lucky me) Jeff Morris's message announcing it was timestamped 12:38. That file shows as 7485 KB on my system, and I pulled down the new one from ThunderFall's link almost as soon as it was available (I was waiting while he had said he was uploading it- just blind luck I'd clicked on that thread then, and went right to the end), AND that (newer) one's file ALSO shows 7485 KB. Maybe thats due to something with my hard disk size or FAT table or something- I'm not enough of a computer type to be sure. BUT the two files show the same size.

Still waiting to hear more people report no problems before I install though - I'm especially interested in this resolution issue, I'm currently at 1600 X 1200, WAY over 1024X768 ... don;'t want those screen ghosts ... maybe I'll have to give up on the F3 key- DO like my res as it is now ....

Good luck everyone!

The only problem with this "new" patch is the same one I had before. Nothing major..the info box and menu box disappears. I am apparently the only one with this problem. It comes back if I click in and out of the city screen. Nothing major..but kinda odd.

Anyways..It works..other than that. No crashes..playing seems fine. Just a minor annoyance.

Well, maybe they just haven't updated the site yet...but the official Civ3 site doesn't make mention of an "updated" patch. They just tell Win2k/XP users not to download it. I am going to try the "new" version that I am currently downloading from civfanatics. By the way, it is painfully slow to download this patch on my 33.6 modem...much slower than on the wireless network at work :->

I deleted the first patch I downloaded, so I can't compare, but the latest I loaded is also 7485kb. I'm confused again. Anyone know if this "new" one is else where for download?

1. Uninstalling the first patch was simple for me (I have Windows ME so I probably didnt have to but I was scared). It showed up seperate from the program in the Add/Remove control panel.
2. The new fixes work in old games but act like the game is brand new based on the old facts. In other words, if you have been chopping down a forest and regrowing it to harvest shields you can still do it one more time once the patch is in. Your corruption is going to be the same, but I think if you screw around with taxation levels, or found new cities, they will behave better.
3. I told my wife there was a patch for Civ 3. She asked if it was like the Nicotine patch, and would gradually reduce my addiction to civ 3...:p

The two patch files I downloaded are the same size, 7,485kb. One way to tell the difference is in the date of the Civilization3.exe file, the first one was dated 11/28/01, the new one is dated 12/7/01. But you can't tell the difference until you install the patch.

Just for the record, I am running on Win98 and the new patch did resolve some minor problems (e.g., was missing relationship lines in Foreign Advisor screen). It is worth downloading. I uninstalled Civ3 and did a complete reinstall and then applied the new patch. Not sure if I had to, but I did. (I did first backup the save subdirectory so I didn't lose my current games). All seems well now.

Thanks Firaxis!!
