Download the new version of v1.16f here!

Well, after reading through 4 pages of this d/l patch thingie, I have just a couple of questions that I need to ask before I d/l the thing. First, which link should I click to d/l the patch, as I am running Win98? And, after I d/l it, how do I install it on my computer, or does it install itself automatically?
imagine you are talking to a computer illeterate guy here...Thanks for the help

Go to this sites main page, find the "new" patch link that works, download it, paying attention to where on the harddrive the file is being put. When the download is complete go to the file and double click on it, it will install.

Oh yeah, once installed you can deleate the patch if you like.

Does anybody else using WIN98 with higher res NOT having rpoblems with ghost texts when exiting the miliatry screen?

After I installed the new patch I added the keepres=1 line to my ini file and experienced the ghost boxes directly after loading my game. Ones I removed the line from my ini file it was back to normal. Too bad the population numbers still look like hell :D

BTW after I added the keepres=1 my resolution was 1280x1024. So in reply to:

How do you set those other resolutions (1260, 1078 etc)? I only get 1600X1200 with KEEPRES=1, and whatever res it gives me when I don't have that line in civilization3.ini.

keepres=1 means that the game keeps your window resolution. So change your windows resolution to the resolution you want to play the game in.

Help!

I have Windows 98 (don't think it make any difference with my problem, though).

I downloaded the latest patch from here. It took about an hour. Whe it was done, I went to the folder it put it in, double clicked on the Civ3v116f icon and got the following message:

I'm afraid you'll have to wait another hour while the patch downloads... AGAIN :(

If it's corrupt again you should try another mirror site or try downloading it using a download accelerator.

*Edit: Just noticed your file size is 7,111kb the normal size is 7,485kb... so you didn't download the entire file... using a download accelerator should ensure that you download the entire file next time*

Just downloaded the latest patch (the one with Civilization3.exe of 7-dec-2001 as shows after install). During install there was the CRC error with the civilization3.exe file which I ignored.

Now when I start the game it gives the opening screen and after that just a message box with "INSTALLATION ERROR No Civilization III Installation Detected" !!!!!

As far as I can see all the files are there and Control Panel shows Civilization III v1.16f.

What is going on???

Hi Beammeuppy!

If you haven't already worked it out, I'd suggest you backup your Saved games and uninstall Civ3. Reinstall then try the patch. But from the CRC error, it would suggest that you have a corrupt version of the patch, so you might need to download that first.

Hope that helps! ;)

Evidently the patch is doing someything, because even afetr I install it, Try a second to uninstall my game still will not work. So its doing something with the exe or the reg.

The best way to backup the save games is to simplt cut and paste the saves folder to another place on the same hardrive (such as C:\), this way you don't need to make copies of the saved games. The saved games take up 1.2 GB of space on my harddrive. :)

I hope everyone knows this already:

"If you installed the previous patch, the first time you run this patch it will uninstall the earlier patch. Let InstallShield complete its uninstallation, then run this new patch again. "

Not really having any of the probs on here, but thought I'd reply to the person who asked about the Settler outline - I am definately still getting the city outline when I walk a settler around. (with the new 1.16f)

Hmm. I was afraid of that. :( Thanks.

While I was downloading it, I was bumped off the interent, and when I got back on and started to download, it picked up where I left off. (I was 80% done by then.) Could that be how the discrepency in downloading the entire file occured?

judging from the file size and you saying it picked up again after 80% then no... I think the download broke off again after that. It tends to happen every now and then.

From posts here and elsewhere, it seems that some folks are having problems if they installed Civ other than in the default location, and then applied the patch.

The patch defaults to installing in the same default location as the original install, even if the game is actually installed somewhere else. And it DOESN'T WARN YOU if you choose to install the patch in the wrong place. It either has no effect, or says that you don't have the game installed.

So, be careful to select the correct place when installing the patch!

i reinstalled the game then loaded the latest incarnation of the patch. i have win98 SE. when i return from ANY advisor screen i get a ghost outline of the city information box about an inch below the real one. also, the settler does not display the outline of the new city beneath his feet, in the city display G does not bring up the governors screen nor can you use DEL to delete stuff from the production queue. i uninstall the patch and all works fine. is it me or are others seeing this too? are there only two versions of the patch or have they updated it to a third? meaning any change since the released the second patch to fix the F key problem with XP? thanks to anyone who can clue me in!!

you probably have the original instead of the new patch. I'm on win 98 SE and had the same problem with the ghost boxes even after I installed the new patch... I fixed it by removing the line keepres=1 from the ini file.

so if you added the keepres=1 line to the ini file at a certain time be sure to remove it and see if that fixes things.

also on the new patch everything should be working.

thanks zant but now i can't play it at the resolution of my desktop, right? i don't have the readme with me but i think there is a way to set it to play at 1024x768 right? and yes, i have the second/updated patch. i'll go thru the process again but i was typing G in the city display and not govs and DEL would not delete the blue text(selected) item in my production queue....no problems for you huh?

isn't 1024X768 the default setting? not sure though. but you'r right now you can't play the game in your desktop res unless your res is the same as the default game res :D

I'll have to check if the G key in the city display and the del button work... I haven't used them since I bought the game :D

But so far I haven't noticed any problems anymore... asside from the horrible city population numbers :D

*Edit: I just tested the G key and del button. Both are working fine. Did you have the problem in a new game or an old saved game?*

I run a win2k machine & have found that the corrected patch crashed when exiting the chose new tech to reserch screen.

I have installed the second 'f' patch, and have seen no graphical or instability issues. Here are my system specs, in their entirety:

Athlon 1.4
256 meg p-133 ram
40 gig hd
Win 98SE
One CD rom
Civ installed on "E" drive
Soundblaster Live!
Geoforce 3
monitor, keyboard, intellimouse

Just a FYI
