Dumb and Stupid Quotes Thread: Idiotic Source and Context are Key.

Ahh, the magic of out of context quotes...

Of course, a child out of rape will be born in an already broken family. Miracle of life!

That is not true. The majority of women who get raped do not abort the child because they know it is not the child's fault, so why would they punish the child for the crime of the father? It's all about the child. If we believe that killing innocents is murder, then abortion is wrong. But overall that PP is typical of the group.

The last two need a little bit more context.
I agree. I can't see anything wrong with them at all. Taken out of context they seem indisputably true statements.

As for the first one, rape is never beautiful whatever the result. And yet in the context of a 20 week abortion ban, I find it hard to understand why a victim of rape would wait for 20 weeks before seeking an abortion. Assuming she wanted one.

And the original statement:
"Obviously rape is awful," West Virginia Del. Brian Kurcaba (R) said during a committee hearing on a new abortion restriction, according to David Gutman, a Charleston Gazette reporter. "What is beautiful is the child that could come from this."
shows it's the result of mangling out of all recognition.

Those who claim to be pro-life yet make exceptions for rape victims are the ones who really want to punish women for sexual promiscuity. Those who make no exceptions for rape might genuinely care about the lives of the unborn.

I don't think so. Those people who want to punish women for having sex also have a very large overlap with those people who think that rape isn't really a crime, because the woman was 'asking for it'. Remember the 'legitimate rape' comments that were going on a while back?

That might change over time or be suppressed by others' pressure.

Eh...

I am sure most people could eat out of a plate used by a murderer. Afterall the plate does not get magically some tie to the now gone murderer. Carrying a fetus inside you for 9 months as a result of being raped, and then raising it in a healthy way, well, what were you smoking again?.

Raping is bad. People that have sex without that much love compatibility could be rape based on personal experience.

Indeed. It's a complex issue.

Even so, 20 weeks is a long time to wait.

It's yet another reason I'm in favour of the morning after pill. You don't even have to wait till you know you're pregnant. Just that if you were (and there's always a chance after any kind of sexual intercourse, protected or not), you wouldn't consider having a child at that stage of your life was appropriate. For whatever reason.

It's not about aborting the child, it's about born in a family with only the mother..

Obligatory bump to remind people adoptive parents are a thing, they're real parents.

There are support groups that do help the mother in such situations, but most don't know about them because they are told lies about such groups.

Because we should trust you about anything remotely related to abortion?

"I would like to think that these guys could pay with their lives, hanging from a noose in front of the U.S. Capitol building. Because what they are doing is they are putting their own interests above that of America. And to me, that is criminal...And guess what? Most of those members who are opting out of attending the speech are members of the Congressional Black Caucus."

o_O

Not seeing how 'the interests of America' is for senators (?) to listen/attend a speech by an Israeli PM?

Also not seeing what the 'black caucus' was placed there for. The quote was already suspiciously horrible even without it.

Because boycotting an Israeli representative is evil and anti-American and clearly pro-Sharia law.

That's unapologetically Klannish even by Tea Party standards.

That's probably too Klannish for Klan standards in '15.

The Klan hasn't changed attitudes, but they have changed tactics. They rarely come out and say things like that these days.

I think it depends on which local branch of the Klan we are considering. Some of them are less racist than Abraham Lincolns was (which is still pretty racist).
