How does 250 million years sound?

Right now, there are loads of websites talking about "Pangea Ultima," where all the continents reverse direction ( :dubious: ) and come together to form what to me looks kinda like the symbol of the Female gender.

I think that it will be the Pacific ocean that will be the "doughnut hole," rather than the atlantic, 'cause continents reversing direction is a crap idea.

But personally, I believe that the continents will coalesce at the north pole, which I have learned early in my childhood, and I still very firmly believe that today, but I'm having a heck of a tough time locating the "northern pangea" theory on the internet. :(

Well, the continents are plates floating on a ball of magma thats rotating. Im pretty sure geologists have a pretty good idea of where exactly the continents will be 250 million years from now.

i know europw and america are moving toward each other at about 4 inches a year, so that woukld suggest the atlantic in the center

but then there wont be any altantic ocean anymore. so pacific will be in the middle. in a way.

If tectonic plates go on the same way, Atlantic ocean will become wider and wider while pacific ocean will disappear. Every geologists know that. But you can't tell what will be the movement of the plates in only 50 million years.

but he said donut, implying the land will form around it

oh, i was actually thinking the other way round, didnt read the question properly. but still i think the altantic ocean will be gone as america and africa, europe can fit very nicely.

I don't know much about this but I have a question. The original pangea broke apart into continents, what is to stop what we have now breaking up into smaller islands again?

I saw on the Future is wild, that the the continents will reverse.

I have a map of that in the user created maps forum (should be in my sig). You'll see a couple of scenarios there. There was a show 2 years ago (reruns ran last year, and I think with a few new pieces), called "The Future is Wild".

I didn't vote. The Book of Ezekiel in the Bible declares that in the future, Jerusalem will be at the center of the Earth, as its capital and greatest seaport. Didn't see any option that fit that.

What am I a geologist?

Maybe with some fancy pants technology we'll be able to keep the continents from smashing eachother up.

@Quasar1011, so how does that work? Does Jerusalem sink into the center of the Earth and then becomes a hub for some sort of vast underground water transport system?

I voted Atlantic being squashed because that's what Paleomap says, can I assess the validity of this? Hell no!

And you doctered in geology at which university?

Bright day
Hey isn't Atlantic growing and Pacific shrinking?
You know N. America and Eurasia used to be Laurasia (with exception of India) and S. American and Africa are parts of Gondwana?
SO unless continets turn on their heel, the Pacific should get encircled, should it not? Simplified....

I dont know about continents, But I vote for human extinction, average temperature of 120 degrees and an era of fish-like intelligent creatures living under the sea and sending probes on earth to find remnants of human era.

My world atlas, which I keep nearby for naming Civ3 cities, uses the northern pangaea theory, with no 'hole'.

I have no idea (nor do I really care), so I won't vote.

 How does that work? Last I heard, Jerusalem is not a port city.
