eldar01 - What's The Story?

Right, the roster looks something like this:
eldar
Bede
Admiral Kutzov
fro
omni_paul
Melhisedek
namliaM

I'm up in SGOTM4 and I've been delaying my turns a bit much so it'd be good if someone else took up the reigns for the first set; Bede - would you do the honour?

Sorry I didn't make it clear enough :( I thought I'll just lurk and ask questions and learn. I haven't even beat the AI on Noble yet

If there is a spot open, I would love to jump in.

Never done monarch on warlords but have quite a few wins on prince.

Round 1 of "Kiss the Girls and Made Them Cry" coming up.

Will play Sequential War variant.

The game is set up in HoF mod 2.08.003. Any one on the roster who does not have it can get it here. If you have a standard install just download and run.

Research begun: Archery
Move away from the coast

Civ4ScreenShot0006-4.jpg

And glad I did. We will want to mine that gold and cottage all but one floodplain. And don't be in a hurry to cut those forests.

Turn 1 (3970 BC)
Bibracte founded
Bibracte begins: Warrior
With raging barbs I want a warrior early
Scout gets gold from the hut to the NE

Took a gander at Seoul

Civ4ScreenShot0008-3.jpg

Nice iron pigs he's got there. I'm sure he will be glad to share.

Turn 2 (3940 BC)
Swing the scout west towards the next hut. I am not in any hurry to explore further.
Dial up Brother Wang and suggest he research ARhcery with us. Sharing research with Brother Wang on Archery will get it 3X faster for both of us. Once that is learned we can move on to worker knowledge and split the load.

Turn 3 (3910 BC)

Civ4ScreenShot0007-3.jpg

Turn 4 (3880 BC)
With archers from the hut dial up Wang and suggest he study Fishing while we learn how to plow.
That appears to be the shortest path to Pottery. And will give us irrigation so we can work the gold mine.

Turn 7 (3790 BC)
Contact made: Spanish Empire No sign of Isabella's scout so it must have been in Wang's territory.

Turn 8 (3760 BC)
And so it begins.

Civ4ScreenShot0010-3.jpg

Turn 9 (3730 BC)
From a hut

Civ4ScreenShot0011-3.jpg

useful with our stone

Turn 11 (3670 BC)
Bibracte grows, finishes the Warrior and starts a worker

Turn 13 (3610 BC)
Meet the redhead in the far south

Civ4ScreenShot0013-2.jpg

thanks to Wang's scout

Civ4ScreenShot0014-2.jpg

Turn 15 (3550 BC)
Here's the toad

Civ4ScreenShot0016-3.jpg

Her archer is just to the SE of Bibracte

Civ4ScreenShot0017-3.jpg

Tech learned: Agriculture
and head for Pottery while Wang works on Bronze Working,

And so it ends in 3400BC

Civ4ScreenShot0018-3.jpg

I''ll bet our buddy Wang was surprised when we met the lovely lady of Spain and smacked her upside the head.

Thanks for a great set of turns with pics/explanations Bede!

well, now i'll screw it up with a medicore set of turns, no pix and no explanations. But I do have questions...

I'll only hit the highlights as there wasn't much to do except hit enter.

3370 - scout moved onto a hill, Elsa ate him.
3190 - finished the worker, started an archer
3040 - wheel finished, started pottery

Spoiler :
Turn 21 (3370 BC)
Scout loses to: Barbarian Lion (0.24/2)

Turn 22 (3340 BC)
Buddhism founded in a distant land

Turn 23 (3310 BC)

Turn 24 (3280 BC)

Turn 25 (3250 BC)

Turn 26 (3220 BC)
Bibracte finishes: Worker

Turn 27 (3190 BC)
Bibracte begins: Archer

Turn 28 (3160 BC)

Turn 29 (3130 BC)

Turn 30 (3100 BC)

Turn 31 (3070 BC)

Turn 32 (3040 BC)
Tech learned: The Wheel

Turn 33 (3010 BC)

Turn 34 (2980 BC)

Turn 35 (2950 BC)
Bibracte grows: 3

The choice I've left for the next better playa is whether to work the gold or not.

Questions? I always have questions. My inclination is to chop out two cities and build the GW. What are the rules on tech trading with Wang? do we need alpha to actually exchange techs? BTW, Brother Wang is an idiot and is still working on BW. If we build the wall, does Brother Wang get the benefit?

once the archer is in, release the warrior to explore to the SE. or if you feel lucky..

the roster looks like this IIRC:

eldar (something about the wife or SGOTM)
Bede (kick started us)
Admiral Kutzov , twidled all three thumbs and 22 toes
fro UP!
omni_paul on deck
Melhisedek
namliaM

Teamed players share techs and if I remember rightly share resources as well when the route between capitals is there. So if Wang has it we have it. And if we research the same tech then beakers are pooled to determine the research rate.

And the benefits of wonders are also shared though the GP points go to the owning city.

Since we have Masonry and stone available to us, the Great Wall is an attractive option.

If I'd had to pick one of the girls to go to war early with, I'd have picked Isabella. After all, she's bound to declare war on us at some point anyway.

Got it, I'll play later today. I agree with our starting stone + the raging barbs, GW looks like a great option.

Thoughts on our 2nd city location? There are a couple of nice places, gold/pigs/wine to our W, or rice+2x elephants on the river to the SE. As we already have some gold and won't be able to use the wine immediately, my thinking would be to leave this site for our 3rd city. I think expanding inland to the rice/elephant site would give us a larger area of land to play with. This is just going off Bede's screenshots as I haven't had time to look at the save yet.

Errr guys
I'm not even a Prince player, I don't think I can play at this difficulty. It must be some misunderstanding that I'm still on roster :please:

I noticed Bede played 20 turns, whereas the Admiral has only played 15. I think I'll go for another 20, as 15 is so short at this stage of the game. Having loaded up the game, my initial reaction was how long everything took to make - until I remembered we were on epic speed. This is going to be a little strange for me as a departure from normal speed, so bear with it!

Turn 36 - 2920 BC
Bibracte grows to size 3. I put our newest citizen to work in the gold mines as this raises our research from 13 to 20 beakers, as well as speeding up production of that archer. A nice boost at this stage can really help us get ahead.

Turn 41 - 2770 BC
Bibracte completes archer. Fortify it and send the warrior off to do some exploring. Start production of a settler - 25 turns, ouch!

Turn 43 - 2710 BC
We finish pottery on the same turn that Wang finishes BW. I'm slightly at a loss as to what to research next. Seeing as we get all of Wang's tech anyway, alphabet is obsolete. We haven't got any marble, so the religious techs for marbley wonders also seem low priority. We haven't got anything to pasture with AH. I eventually go for IW, for our UU - its not really any better than a normal swordsman, but considering our goal of conquest then swordsmen will be handy. It'll also be handy for jungle clearing to the south of our 2nd city. I suggest Wang researchs writing, with a view to beelining to maths ->construction for earlyish elephants and aqueducts, which our capital will need for health.

The proposed 2nd city site now looks fairly set as some copper has popped up nearby:
Civ4ScreenShot0001.jpg

Turn 44 - 2680 BC
Wang is doing a sterling job of scouting out around city #2, so I reverse our warrior :)

Turn 45 - 2650 BC
Quarry on the stone finishes. I switch a citizen from flood plains to quarry, which shaves 5 turns off the settler. Need to remember to move this back after settler is done to prevent stagnation.

Turn 48 - 2560 BC
Our warrior, standing in a forest, gets taken out by a lion. Grrr. We'll need to produce another archer to escort our settler for sure.

Turn 50 - 2500 BC
Hinduism founded in a far off land.. (revealed the next turn to be, unsurprisingly, Spain)

Turn 52 - 2440 BC
Isabella has an archer prowling round the edges of our borders.

Turn 55 - 2350 BC
Starting the cottage spam with our worker. Isabella's warrior is due north of our borders now, a barbarian warrior approaches from the south-east. He's no doubt going to pillage our gold, but with only one archer theres not much we can do. Next player needs to get us another archer to escort our settler, who will be finished in 7 turns. 15 turns to IW, Wang gets writing in 10.

Possible dotmap below, open to suggestions on the placements!
dotmap.jpg

City 2 would be a decent production city with 2x ivory, copper and the rice. Possible flaw: it doesn't have a decent food source within its inner ring so would be slow to grow unless we chopped it an obelisk for the border pop.

Pink would get us spices for happiness, cow + corn for health reasons and once all the jungle is cleared, would be perfect for cottage spamming.

Yellow has potential for a GP farm - 2x clams + wheat, we could farm the rest of the squares bar the 2 hills which would need to be mined if it were ever to build anything.. Does have an overlap with our capital, but I can't see any way of getting to the clams without this occurring.

Green is pure conjecture as our scouting warrior didn't make it there. However it seems to have the potential as a production base.

Suggested plan now: couple more archers, found city 2, begin production on GW.

I never got round to switching to slavery so if any whipping is envisaged, remember this!

Go red for the next city. We'll need the copper.

Alpha is not obselete. Think GLib. I don't know how much we can direct wang's research, but if we sick him on alpha and hit poly, math and construction while he's busy with that, we'd have literate jumbos supported by the magical stone throwing machines. NOTE: that's off the top of my head; I have done no calculating.

Anyway, I'm good with city 2. We'll need to speak more of city 3. If we decide to go for the Glib, we may want the marble in the NE.

@mel - don't panic, just lazy cut and paste on my part.

Roster:
eldar (something about the wife or SGOTM)
Bede (kick started us)
Admiral Kutzov , twidled all three thumbs and 22 toes
fro - dotted the maps
omni_paul up
Melhisedek - not playing
namliaM - on deck

I'd settle the red city 1 north, to get the copper immediately. Otherwise we'll be waiting an age for it to pop its borders. With raging barbs, Axemen are a must ASAP.
