Emperor SG?

The first two turns:

A team decision has to be made. Please read at the bottom of the log and comment on it!

Spoiler :

pre-flight:

I thought that one sword could attack the two redlined hoplites:

vSword defeats hoplite flawlessly (1-0)

IBT:

Istanbul: settler --> worker

330BC (turn 1):

vSword defeats hoplite (2-0)
vSword defeats archer (3-0)

a curragh spotted pink borders

Siege of Athens:

9 cats bombard the city:

5 hit, 4 miss

There are at least 4 hoplites in the city.

vSword defeats hoplite (4-0)

IBT:

We discover Literature (not sure why we researched it. Right now there is no time to build libraries)
Reseach set to Monarchy, due in 30 turns

Uskudar: archer --> worker

310BC (turn 2):

vSword defeats archer (5-0)
vSword defeats archer (6-0)

Siege of Athens:

9 cats bombard the city:

5 hit, 4 miss (it seems now there are 5 hoplites in Athens)

no attack on the city

I get Construction from India:

I trade Sumerian silks + 27gold for our spices:

I could now buy Monarchy from Russia as follows, but I want the team to decide:

I would do it! Please give me your comments!

So, no one has Republic but two civs have Monarchy.

Personally, I would always go for Republic, but playing in a war game, this may not be the best course of action.

I'll see what the other members have to say. Right now, unless someone gives a good case for not trading for Monarchy, I say go for it.

Actually three of the civs we know, have Monarchy.

Republic in this kind of game really makes no sense. We are not allowed to make peace. And for instance a probably long war against Russia would give us severe war weariness.

Monarchy is the only way for us to go. (At least that's my opinion).

I think its a good deal, do it. As far as Monarchy, war in republic is a pain, so that makes less sense. In a NOW SGFN, we did Feudalism and it worked very well, the huge unit support helped make for shorter wars, so WW was less of an issue. Monarchy is easiest, so we'll probably do that.

lurker's comment:

Trading away luxs at this juncture seems like a very risky practice to me; judging from the minimap, you have very tenuous trade links with India and Sumeria, and you could easily end up with a busted rep.

My log:

Spoiler :

On we go.

I made the deal as mentioned above.

I revolt right away and we draw 4 turns of anarchy :woohoo:

I have to micromanage a bit to reduce our dept per turn.

IBT:

nothing

290BC (turn 3):

vArcher defeats archer (7-0)

12 cats bombard Athens:

5 hit (Yes there are 5 hoplites in the city right now. We need more luck with bombing)!

vSword defeats archer (8-0)

We meet the Arabs, who are really backward

IBT:

anarchy

270BC (turn 4):

The siege of Athens continues:

13 cats bombard the capital:

Again only 5 hits :mad: (But more cats are coming)

found Antalya --> worker

IBT:

The Statue of Zeus has been built in Rome!

250BC (turn 5):

The Siege of Athens is still without any success.

IBT:

We chose Monarchy as out government

230BC (turn 6):

The Siege of Athens:

6 hits finally.

Now the top hoplite is down to 2 hits.

vSword loses to hoplite (8-1)
vSword defeats hoplite (9-1)

IBT:

Istanbul:

worker --> sword

210BC (turn 7):

Athens:

14 cats

6! hoplites are guarding Athens

7 of 14 cats hit.

IIt really makes no sense to attack Athens. We do not have enough cats, nor do we have enough swords.

Not sure what to do here.

I attack other roaming Greek units:

vSword defeats archer (10-1) and promotes to elite
vSword defeats archer (11-1)

An army would really help us!

IBT:

Edrine: sword --> sword
Bursa: sword --> sword

190BC (turn 8):

I move some units onto the Greek dyes to pillage them next turn.

IBT:

nothing

Aydin:cat --> cat

170BC (turn 9):

pillage Greek dyes

IBT:

Istanbul: sword --> sword

150 BC (turn 10):

eSword defeats archer (12-1) (fishing for leaders)

That was my set of turns. Rather unsuccessful. We need to do something. While we are unable to attack the Greeks our units support kills us. Currently I have no great idea. Maybe we should move the big stack around Athens and kill their smaller cities first!?

Grrr Hoplites. :mad:

How far are we from entering the Middle Ages? I think it's still Construction and Currency we're lacking yes? As there are plenty of scientific civs (us, Russian, Sumer) we can try to get Feudalism as our free tech, and spam maces and trebs (which I would guess are a notch better at bombarding then cats).

We just need Currency to advance into the middle ages, but right now, we are unable to get it on our own.

Sparthage asked me to take it, so I'm up. (Otherwise he'd be up in 3 SG's)

Bypass Athens and use more modern units to take it when we get them. Obviously, they can spam hoplites there faster than we can kill them.

I hoped to get the save up this weekend, but it's a holiday weekend and I'm busy. I have a day off Monday and can play then for sure. ;)

Before I play, any other plans? (techs, targets, new cities)

Never mind.
