The Ending of Light
And the Gods came in their glory, and the world trembled beneath their power and might
Excerpt from The Ancient Ones
The world was once a peaceful place, with nature and man living in peace with one another. Before the coming of splendid cities and their stone walls, before the mighty numberless armies of man it was. The world was in harmony and the Gods did not deign to grant any of their attention upon it. Man came to be in time, through perhaps the will of the Gods for some creature to relieve them of their boredom, or perhaps out of the desires of the natural world.
For after all, once peace is achieved, one longs for times of action. When the calm boring peace would end and something exciting and interesting would come to be. What was important is that man came to be, and how he came to be is not of consequence. Learning the secrets of life and harvest over time they gathered first in clans, then in cities, then mighty Kingdoms upon the world fighting for dominion of rich trade routes, wealthy farmland and all other aspects of life.
Yet, despite their technology and splendor, these men worshipped no gods and followed no traditions doing as they desired and despoiled the greatness of the Harmonic state of the world. The attention of the Gods was diverted from their Godly tasks and they came to rest their eyes upon us mortals and from then on, there has been periods of great prosperity, and great destruction and death. For we simple mortals should not get in between the fights of the Great Gods.
The Gods, powerful and great beyond imagination, descended from the Heavens as heavenly light and appeared to the rulers of these fair Kingdoms. They offered power, wealth, knowledge and all other things men find attractive and desirable. The Gods, like men, were divided and different in the way they lived their lives from their personalities to their symbols of might and majesty in the way they dealt and lived with men in those ancient halls of marble and stone.
Some came in great visages, handsome and beautiful faces and bodies, charming and unsurpassed by all in their splendor and beauty. And to those who would refuse to worship them, they could come in their full wrath, with flames and lightning falling from the heavens destroying those who would oppose them. Armies of serpent guards armed with the power to call upon lightning. And the Gods themselves were mighty to behold with glowing eyes and the ability to transfix all who looked upon them.
Wherever they were worshipped, they took the most beautiful, the most intelligent, the strongest and allowed to become Gods becoming immortal, for they could not die, always returning back from the dead stronger then before. Harsh and demanding obedience, all those who did obey them had but once option, death. Their armies, made of semi-gods, were merciless and invincible crushing the armies of man.
Other Gods came, not as glorious specters of light and splendor, but of humble appearance, dress and speech, desiring not to rule, but to aid in ruling. A small peep into the greatness of these Gods was opened, and those who followed them were rewarded with long health and great wisdom, free to do as they desired living in peace. They came with no armies, and no great wrath, but were full of understanding, compassion and love to all the beings of the Earth.

It was inevitable perhaps, that these two factions or so to speak, of Gods would clash on the fields of battle but as always, the Gods are forever immortal. Is it those who aid them in their fight who perish and die in the service of their beliefs. For as the number of their worshippers expanded, either through peace or war, arguments came to be between these mighty Gods. It was as if these all knowing Gods did not know of each other and as their emissaries traveled to the courts of each other, they were met with stern force.
Yet news filtered down from the hallowed temples of the Righteous and the Massive Edifices of the Splendid of their enemy and who they worshipped. The Ge-u and the As-ga they called each other and the elites of both sides were much confused. When the followers of the As-ga asked for more information, they were told that knowledge can only be given piecemeal, and never all at once. When the followers of the Ge-u gained the courage to ask, they were all executed.
The small town of Vashi-sharis came to see the full force of the power of the Gods as forces from both sides rushed to their borders and prepared for war. On one side, the invincible disciplined Serpent Demi-Gods of the Ge-u backed with their horde of fanatical ill-equipped worshippers. On the other side were the legions of the As-ga, spearhead by the peace loving warrior priest and priestesses that serviced them, supported by the well trained armies of nations that followed their righteous rule.
As both sides took their positions, one herald from the Ge-u came to the As-ga forces demanding their withdrawal, and that in one cycle of the sun they would attack. The offer, was as always, politely rejected, and as he turned to leave he was struck in the back by an arrow. Being one of the Serpent Demi-Gods, the arrow had no discernable effect upon the herald. But it was the signal for the beginning of the War and the Ending of the First Age. It was inconclusive, but it did not matter.
Lightning fell from the skies, varied in colors from blue, red to green striking many areas, destroying much and killing thousands. The major cities alone held and survived from the Rain of Lightning, the Gods on both sides with their great power banishing the lightning much far from the buildings. That alone, was not enough to end the First Age of Man. What came next did. The Gods waged war beyond the sky and the night sky was alight with their power and many, many objects fell from Heavenly Grace to the Earth.
Moving barns came to land and waged war in the name of the Gods and by the wars end, all the great cities of past were no more, all razed to the ground by the wrath of the Gods. The world was to be made anew, as the Ge-u Gods left the world and the As-ga reigned supreme. Yet the As-ga had no desire to return things as they once was, believing that their active presence among us mortals was what brought the war and so much suffering. Thus the As-ga too left the world, so that we mortals could learn to build ourselves. And it is said, somewhere in the far north, where snow graces the foot of the mountains and hills, the As-ga have left a temple for their followers.
That when we were ready for salvation once more, we, the followers of the As-ga and their Chief God, To-ra would be able to beg for their presence and accept the Final Gift of the Gods. And as the As-ga prepared to depart from the world to their Heavenly home, To-ra, before turning his back forever until the time of salvation, said the Holy Writ:
Mortals, have faith in oneself. For we help those who help themselves.
