What is your favorite aquatic biome, and what about it do you find so interesting?

POLL ON THE WAY

Hydrothermal Vents, because of all them sulfur-dependent lifeforms that live near there.

I love ponds. You can fish or swim or catch tadpoles or just watch the little duckies float along. And cattails are one of my favorite plants.

Mangrove forests since I got to visit one for a class trip in middle school. The trees sure were a sight to see, the roots were the prettiest part, plus I got to see all sorts of small fish in the water. :)

Littoral/Intertidal zone, Neritic zone, Continental shelf, Pelagic zone, Benthic zone, Cold seeps.

Sorry to display my ignorance, but I have no idea what these are without googeling.

Same goes for a lot of the options in the other thread. Since no one else seems to have this problem, my respect for the smartiness of all of yous just tripled. :hatsoff:

Voted pond, because we have one practically in our backyard. Comfy chair + book + beer + friday afternoon + quacks of ducks, chirps of birds and gentle rustling of trees = win

edit: Snap! I do know what a Hydrothermal vent is. What am I, an idiot? (rhetorical)

Hydrothermal vents.

A good source of interesting previously unknown life forms.

Nah, I just voted for kelp forest because I know what it is.

Too late, you have my tripled respect whether you like it or not. :)

See how smart I am: I earned tripled respect for smartliness that didn't actually exist and in the end I was completely honest, too. I would consider that worthy of quadrupled respect.

Hydrothermal vents, and deep ocean are full of the most kickass stuff.

Coral reefs are getting the most aquatic attention regarding climate change and extinctions, and the kelp grass scientists are pointing out that there's a kelp grass eradication going on as well. Coral reefs are probably being focused on because they're pretty.

Finally, wetlands get most of my attention because of how vital they are for cleaning aquifer water. We're polluting aquifers, and wetlands are one of the things preventing that pollution. I personally prefer clean, free water but YMMV

I'd vote downtown, but it was not listed. I am sad that it was not included as an option.
