Inspired by this thread and this thread and this thread.

Which of world's 25 largest* cities is your favorite, and why? How many of them have you been to? If you live or have been in one of these cities, what do you like or don't like about it?

*I use the ranking by this website

Of the cities on that list it's only London and Mumbai that I have visited. London is very nice, at least from a tourists perspective. Mumbai is fascinating, it exposed me to severe poverty as well as striking richness (and everything in between).

I've been to three: London, New York and Moscow.

So I voted Lagos.

You do realize how incredibly grey and boring everything in London issss, right?

My obvious choice was Rio de Janeiro, RJ, Brazil. :)

hmmm out of... (I ordered them)
Beijing, PRC
Tokyo, Japan
Seoul, South Korea
Osaka, Japan
Shanghai, PRC
I went for Beijing. The PR of C certainly isn't my favourite government - but I enjoyed it head and shoulders above any of the other 4. Kyoto might rival Beijing, though. I might have enjoyed Osaka more, if I hadn't stayed in such a spit-hole hotel for the first few days. I have mixed feelings about Seoul.

Where is Pyongyang?

Eh, it doesn't matter, Ft. Myers FTW AGAIN!!!!!

Seriously, I've never been to any of those except NYC, which is fine to visit but not really a great place.

My favorites would have to be NY or Istanbul. Istanbul is an amazing city with incredible history. You could spend weeks visiting historic sites there. It has a really lively nightlife, I'm not into clubs but they have bars where you can sit outdoors in the alleyways with live music sometimes. It's neat having a city on two continents too. As far as living there, it can be a pain. It's a huge city and sometimes you find yourself having to take the bus, the ferry, then the metro as you have to make it across two continents.

New York is a great city and has convenient transport which is a big plus. It's perhaps the most diverse city in the world, I'm not one of those people who constantly has to be surrounded by a diverse crowd to feel culturally relevant or whatever, but you can certainly find food from every place which is a big advantage. It's not always so expensive either, me and a friend stuffed ourselves with sushi for just a little over $20. When I first visited I didn't like it that much but now I can see myself possibly living there. You can kind of get used to a neighborhood and forget you're living in a huge city. There are lots of old neighborhoods with nice Victorian architecture so you don't feel like you're living in rows of identical buildings.

I like Beijing, it's got some really interesting historic sites and interesting old neighborhoods. It's not exactly my favorite city though.

LA over NYC.

The rest suffer from not being American.

Lagos. People keep sending me millions of dollars from there!

It was a tough decision between New York, London, and Moscow.

Everything else seems like non-Western hellholes or just hellholes in the case of Latin American cities.

Chicago's not on there, default to New York.

Istanbul in close second just for it's history.
