[FfH II Art Team Blog]

probably a matter of opinion then and i m glad valk told me how to it myself.

since lanun are pirates-inspired i see less issues with a "sailor with a book" even as an archmage (definitly agree he could look a bit more impressive though) as at least more fitting then a blue robed guy. pirates strike me as the kind of people who go over whats efficient and tricking others rather than looking like pompuss asses so a mighty pirate mage trying to pass of as just a common sailor makes (to me) more sense than a robe-wearing "look at me / shoot at me" attentionwhore
but i ll admit in this case everyone probably has his own ideas on what different units "should" look like and can come up with a good reason for it so this doesnt lead anywhere.

anyhow, i look really forward to the druid, i ve always thought the awesome austrin archmage you did would make a great looking druid so if you werent making a new one i d have used his model (since i rarely play with/vs austrin anyhow).

what happened to the skaven/gnolls btw. ?

oh and before i forget, fantastic job on the beast of agares, saw it for the first time yesterday, MUCH better than before.

yep. I couldn't ask for more with Beasts of Agares.

As and when the Sidar get their remaining tier 1-3 units, they should definitely get some tier 4 stuff as well. Sidar are a civilisation that I've always felt should be strongly visually distinctive (I'd add Balseraphs to that request as well).

Of course, I think Kuriotates & Calabim are higher priority right now, but that's just me ;)

Sadly, I can not see the Beast in my game.

It might be because of my poor graphic card. But will you guys please, please, pretty pretty please, also release the non-shader version of the Beast and other with-shader units? It would be very much valuable to me (and maybe other shader-haters here )

Thank you!

Sorry guys,
have been very busy lately and can´t tell when I have some time again to work on art for FfH.
Hopefully soon everything will become a bit more settled, but no promise on that, right now.
So just you know I am still alive ;)

Cheers.

Is there any chance of making some new Empyrean farms/cottages? Currently it is just a very bright reskin that is out-of-place with the rest of Erebus, and looking at it makes my eyes hurt. Some more appropriate graphics would be nice...

Empyrean in general is kind of a fish out of water lorewise. I think the art fits it great.

The austrin archmage is something I've been meaning to go back and finish. I think my work with the druid will generate some useable components there in any case.

The beast is a bit over 1700 polygons. It's certainly among the highest polycount units in the game now.

I can't speak for kael or seZ, but personally doing that would be a nightmare of such epic proportions that I don't want to attempt it. The number of FFH units which only have shader versions i huge. it's pretty much most of them.

In fact, for FFH 0.41, kael removed the nonshader versions of many units which had them from the fpk, presumably to reduce download size. It caused a lot of art errors over in FF.

I'd advise you get a better video card personally. They're getting cheaper all the time. I use an 8800 GTS and it handles anything Civ can throw at it for ease. they're probably pretty cheap now, I paid £100 for mine almost 2 years ago.

I'll be able to manage the druid alone then, I think. Have made a start on it today. Hopefully witll have progress to show everyone sometime soon.
I'm still a bit unsure of what weapon/animations he should use though. A sickle is a popular choice for a druid, but a staff would also look nice. . Also, only the sumerian vulture kfm has cape bones, so I'll probably need to use that - it's the same one chalid uses, and has attacks for a one-handed weapon held in the right hand.

I'm more or less making the guy in "druid_by_higherdepths.jpg". I'm thinking of making the light orange parts (the sash) teamcolored. Good/bad idea ?

The HD4850 is the popular budget card these days. They go for around $110 IIRC/£80 IIRC.

little druid progress report

The main visual theme is done. He mostly now needs little details, like a sickle and poiuches on the belt, a weapon of some sort, the fluffy collar, and I'm sure I can find a place to stick a phoenix feather ;)

The orange parts will be teamcolored, so just imagine them being the color of whatever civ you're playing. ie, as bannor, the sash will be light blue. as hippus, green. etc..

Having a detailed illustration to work from makes this a lot easier. not the least of which because I can photosource textures from it. look at the face ;)

nice by the way and Thanks

Wow, looks GREAT!

I don't know, it doesn't really strike me as particularly druidic. Nothing about it says "Priest of Sucellus" to me. It might be good as a Beastmater however.

I at least tend to think the robes should be green. I'm pretty sure I remember reading that many historical druids wore robes died dark green with a specially processed woad dye. Personally I'd like them to have a headdress including antlers and small white flowers. (I'd also like a Satyr version in which they instead have their natural horns adorned with flowers, more special Satyr Druid art for Yvain, and also a Satyr Beastmaster.)

I'll try green robes later. Possibly headdress too. I can make various versions with these alternate components.

Satyr druids would be interesting. Perhaps a future possibility
