FfH2 Bug Thread

there's no lore appropriate mapscript. the one closer to that would be Nikis-Knight map, but it's not the "Official" Erebus map since there isn't one ;)

Kael you should SO take Erebus mapscript out of patch n and replace it with ErebusContinents. I see pretty much all newcomers play on that cuz they think it's the map you're SUPPOSED to play FFH on, while actually it's the horrible script that messes FFH up. I'm serious. please, you can't seriously hate n00bs so much. they deserve to play the real experience and not some crappy ffh in a maze. I wasted SO MUCH time on that and I'm never ever going to get it back. oh, and I won't even mention ( I will, actually ) those horrible all desert or all ice starts, and then you find you're stranded alone on a useless island made entirely of ice or desert. it's just dreadful, and I STRONGLY suspect most people who try FFH and dislike it actually do so because of this mapscript. when you finally ditch it it's like night and day.
Well, I think that the Erebus mapscript is almost ok ... if only it left a few more passages open, i.e. decreased peak density. Else, I like it. I can't yet say that for the EC mapscript. But alas, that's how it goes and come to think of it - this isn't the appropriate thread to discuss these things anyway. ;)

I agree +1

If you don't mind doing some text editing, there is a variable in Erebus.py called SoftenPeakPercent that perforates the isolated valleys a bit. (At least there was back when Erebus was Creation and before it was included in FfH)

hey some people will always like something most people think is terrible. that's not a problem at all, the problem is that due to it being called Erebus newcomers think that's the best map to play FFH on, and then complain about bad gameplay effects that are absent if you play on a "normal" script.

Yay, a new patch in the making! It would be really nice if the OOS's were checked and DoCs and SoIs came into play later.

I have the Council of Esus state religion and i declared war on the Amurites while within their borders but my stack got booted out of their territory anyway. Maybe the units also have to have the religion not just the state?

It is ffh2 with patch m.

I'm attaching the save if anyone wants to look. I'm talking about the werewolf stack in Amurite territory.

Hi Cymrean!

The reason your units were ejected is that there is an Amurite unit (in this case, a Priest of Leaves) in the square your army is in - therefore, if there was not an ejection, you would be in the same square as an enemy unit (which causes an immediate crash to desktop).

I loaded your save, moved your army one square north to an unoccupied square, and decleared War on the Amurites; the army stayed in place.

Best wishes,

Thanks Breunor, i knew i was missing something. :)

since i'm already posting i'll ask: Is it intentional that a score victory is highly dependant on who calls the Mercurites? (since they form a team with the caller thus catapulting him to almost x2 score)

Sorry for the double post, but i've hit another roadblock in my Belseraph game. When i hit the next turn in the attached save it seems to be processing forever. I gave up after an hour...

Your file is VERY big and it took me over 4 hours to find the fix. Here is a fixed game:

You should see a marathon large mag game i played using the Bannor (~1600 turns) the save is 1,5 MB... So i guess large files is normal with FFH2, right? Unless most people play on even smaller maps then the standard one in this Belseraph game.

Thank you very much, i feel a bit bad that you wasted 4h on this... Did you run the turn until it finished or did you delete something that was causing it using the worldbuilder?

hi

i finally have a nice game running where i seem to be successful with the Luchuirp... (somehow never managed it...)

And now, that i finally start making war with success, it crashes in the attached savegame on the next turn ;-(

I've seen that some of you guys are able to fix savegames, so I hope the best ;-)

Can you please check the error?

Thanks a ton!

50 turns later the evil infinite turn strikes again. Eh just 115 turns to time victory that's a bit frustrating. :/ I'm attaching it, this time it's archived using winrar because the save keeps growing.

I found a barbarian city that was the cause. I probably should have deleted it and ended there. But I wanted to see which units were the cause. (Sorry, I don't remember the name of the city, it was on the very East part fo the board, near the south, it had a pop of 1). It had 4 units in it, a ranger, wolf rider, and 2 longbowmen.

If you delete all 4 units, it doesn't crash (actually Woc) - but I didn't want to leave a city with no defenders for the Svaltalfar to pick up. When I deleted any 2 units, it still crashed. I thought the top unit, the ranger was the problem (it didn't have the orcish promotion) but it wasn't that simple.

So, sigh, after all of that I just went back and deleted the city. The next test was to try three units at a time, but unfortunately I had run out of patience. Given how long it takes to load the file and wait to see if there is an WoC, it would have taken another half hour to 40 minutes to try three at a time so I cheated and made it simpler - I thought deleting that city wouldn't influence the game that much.

I don't know if I'm going to try to fix this, sorry, WoC's on big files are just plain trying. Unfortunately, the bug itself was rather simple, on a normal sized map early in the game I could fix it easily.

Best wishes,

Breunor

Here you go, try this game. I had to delete one of your mercenaries to fix the bug. If you want me to give you a new mercenary to replace it, let me know.

If you want to see the cause of the error, open the spoiler text below.

Spoiler :
The error was caused by a Luchuirp mercenary being in the same square as 4 hidden Sidar units (they are at war). This SHOULD be OK. However, one of the Sidar units is a settler - I wonder if it tried to start a city, and then there was an enemy unit there sitting in the cuty? The four units are 2 ghosts, a warrior, and the settler - they are all hidden, so I'm not 100% sure why the bug is triggering, but I think some unit there is revealing or the settler is settling and the violation error is being triggered.

Note that you cannot load the game from the worldbuilder playing anyone, so the violation here may be more fundamental. (???)

Best wishes,

Breunor
