FfH2 Bug Thread

When a new Barbarian city is founded after the barbarians know Iron Working they start with free Champions, even though the barbarian state normally has Orges instead. You should probably change UNIT_CHAMPION to UNIT_OGRE. (Personally I think it might be good to make the first Warrior become an Axeman or Ogre based on techs and the second become an Archer or Longbowman.)

I also really still think that the Sect of the Flies UU should be brought back, as Hellfire spawning human-looking orkish champions is quite odd.

I wish to report some bug, or at least strange things experienced in my last game.

Monarch, Epic, Small, Hemispheres. Played as Sidar. Aim: time victory.

The shades are a great thing, but:
No problem when i used some level 6 warrior: casted wane, then i has my shade.
But i built lots of Adepts and Confessors. And here the bug:
The adepts took hundreds turns to rech 20 XP, and stuck there. Upgraded to Mages, reached 26 XP in few turns. But when i tried to caste Wane the box does NOT appear. So i used WB, put there an archer, gave him 26 XP. Next turn i could promote him, and the "caste wane" box was there. So i killed one of my Mages to find him resurrected in Capital (i owned Blood of Phoenix). And he resurrected with the "caste wane" box.
Repeated the same thing (kill/resurrection) for almost every mage and confessor.
Please note "almost", some of them, say 1 out of 10 has the "caste wane" box regularly, without need to kill him.
BTW confessors need too much turns to reach level 6.

If you read the manual (FfH 2m Manual v1.pdf 2009/01/07) you don't see the need to upgrade Adepts to Mages to reach level 6.

If can be of help, i can provide some saves.

Another thing i noticed in my games, often with Lanun as opponents: they never build their wonderful pirate coves, never seen one.

Last, please remove the "Score" victory from the Trophy Hall, it's a nonsense.

Immortal units are not allowed to Wane. That is why you couldn't wane your mages who had Immortality from BoP, but could wane others who didn't.

The requirement for the Adepts was that you only get Free XP up until 20 XP (due to Channeling I limitation), you could gain level 6 by getting XP from combat without upgrading to a mage first, or by gaining Channeling II from some other method (of which I don't know of any). I am reasonably certain I remember the limit of free XP from Channeling II being 50XP (each one grants you a number for what XP it will bring you to for free, and your chance of gaining XP each turn is that number minus your current XP).

So, killing a unit is the only way to cast wane, unless they don't reach the needed XP before you build BoF. Correct?

What about the XP/turns? Thay take too long, anyway, and i can't see how you can fight with a Mage or an adept by the time they have enough XP. Your opponents will have more powerful units.
If you add that in the manual it's clearly written that you can gain the XP peacefully...
Mine was a peaceful game after the initial rush.
And a short war to eliminate the bad guys. :mischief: ahem... phalanx and knights vs. horse archers and archers... no match.
But i'm sure i have had some problem with mages.

What about some article in the manual or better in the pedia for the XP/turns the various units can collect?
And the limit? And... i usually play on epic, adjustements for speed are needed if you play normal/quick or conversely, marathon.

I would also like to lament the loss of my Sphener start up screen. I very much preferred it to Hyborem.

Sorry about that. I just found what happened. It will be fixed int he next version.

Maybe human Sidar units should gain the option to remove immortality, in order to cast wane. Of course, honestly this brings up my idea to smooth "immortality" as a promo only given to true immortals, and the temporary promo called pheonix feather.

On another note completely unrelated, you could have said new adepts get a .05% chance to gain "oldschool" promotion, enabling Chalid's Pillar of Flames spell :D

Not sure if it's a bug or feature, but 'blaze' can't be cast on an improved forest tile - which is a little annoying if trying to cast it on a pillaging run. I'm guessing it's got something to do with how smoke works - i.e. as an 'improvement'?

yep, it's considered an improvement by Civ4. if you destroy it by pillaging and then cast blaze it should work out allright though.

The tundra it creates out of my ice isn't reverting back at all within city range. Maybe temple of the hand should do a check for changing, or priests of winter could create ice within their borders.

It seems My "empire councilor" is on permanent strike ..
(I mean, I have a total blank screen when I want to have F1 informations)
it's kinda difficult to manage the empire in those conditions.

Am I the only one with the bug ? or do other people concure ?

I'll post a save latter
Oh : FFH + patch 0.40y

Thought it might be a gameplay mechanic, but it's still rather annoying. Blaze should enable one to set a fire to wipe out improvements - which would be deadly against Ljolsafer I suppose, but that's sort of the point with the whole 'don't like forest fires' thing.

Also, there's a grammatical error in one of the Explore Lair events - the finding gemstones one. It reads

'Your unit is disappointed to find their is no wealth withing the lair until he notices the walls are studded with gemstones' or something similar.

It should read:

'Your unit is disappointed to find there is no wealth...'

I noticed quite a few grammatical errors here and there.

If only you had corrected it one word further, you could have added within instead of withing
