As far as I know, it's tradition.

Monday as a start makes some sense since that's the work/school week.

Sunday being God's day makes it logical to put it first, but so does the fact it's supposed to be the day of rest(which would logically put it last).

I use Sunday as the first day of the week.

I consider Sunday the first day of the week because it's the first day of the week. That's the day I use for the first day of the week when I can customize my calendar, and that's the day you use for the first day of the week because that's the first day of the week.

I was born on a Wednesday, and that's pretty much when the week started for me.

Days of the week are merely an artifice created by us for our own use (whenever it's night for you, it's daytime for somebody else--when a day "starts" is entirely relative). So the first day of the week is whatever the hell any of us wants it to be.
