pre-release info First Look: Confucius - Discussion

pre-release info
BTW, I cannot predict what the player base will eventually settle down on how to call many-cities-and-few-towns and many-towns-and-few-cities, but it is very interesting to see an entire would-be-very-popular vocabulary being developed in real-time.

These super close in shots look really nice but the texture resolution of buildings vs the ground they stand on is a little glaring. Example:

Having such incredibly detailed structures is really nice but it's let down by the ground around it looking like a PS2 game.

So leaders can also have starting biases? I wonder how it will work if your civilization and leader have different biases.

Edit: Hatshepsut had a starting bias too, I missed that.

I'm out of town so didn't catch the FL, but do I read that correct my? 25% Growth with NO downsides? NO conditions whatsoever that need to be fulfilled prior?

Okay sure, I'll take it but man, what an inspired leader bonus.

I don't believe we're going to have the ability to zoom in this closely, they;'re mostly doing it to show few things off.

Sar did say she'd pass the suggestion for a "cinematic zoom" on to the team, though, so who knows--we might get it eventually.

Is the announcer the same as the civ 6 one?
Sarah Darney, yeah. She doesn't work for Firaxis anymore so it's nice she came back to do the announcements. :)

The models of Confucius and Benjamin Franklin both look really nice in this First Look. Detailed and good lighting.

Also, a cool detail I noticed with this video is that fires (like in the braziers on the Great Wall) make the air above them look distorted and blurry. Very nice.

"Really nice" is further than I'd go, but they certainly look better. I wish more of the leaders looked more stylized like Confucius (Ben also seems a little more stylized than, say, Hatshepsut, but not as much as Confucius).

Is that a Victoria Falls natural wonder at 0:44? Have we seen that before?
It's Iguazu Falls; we saw it in the first gameplay showcase.

@GeneralZIft

Rather than the prior acronyms, how about "Spikey" for many cities and few towns, and "flat" for the opposite - as that's what the population density of those empire's would look like if you plotted it in a 3-d graph. So spikey-tall, spikey-wide, flat-tall and flat-wide would all be possible combinations and, hopefully, viable strategies.

I don't know if you're joking but that actually sounds quite fun 😁😂

I guess leader bonuses need to be pretty generic since they have to work accross a bunch of civs and eras... It's not like Augustus or Hatshepshut had abilities which were much more complex.

Since the leader is the only thing that remains constant for the player during the whole game, it would be nice if its attributes were more substantial than an ability and a starting bias.

I think you can level them up with the points you get during gameplay.

It'd make sense to just call it "centralized" v. "decentralized", it's pretty accurate and also real-world concepts which I think is one of the reasons that makes this town/city synergy idea much more interesting, as it reflects different paths that different civilizations have decided on throughout history
