I think Persia will play a bit different when it comes to military:
With Immortals being as strong as Archers (25), but much better in melee (30), I think it is tempting to do without slingers and archers. Build some warriors, get to immortals as fast as possible, then go on a (fast and hard to stop) conquering spree with them. The downside here comes later in the game. Due to not having built Archers before, hard building Crossbows might be necessary. It usually isn't for me. But getting through the game without additional ranged units for defense? Hard to imagine. Another good point of the Immortals is that archer units are usually (at least for me) the ones that get to high promotions early and easily. With the ranged attack, this might be possible with Immortals as well and you can have some nice high level melee units. I don't have level 5+ musketmen usually...
It's why we have been saying that Persia is going to want Horses for Horsemen. Because Horsemen are going to be their main melee unit during their power era in the Classical.

Or you can build Immortals for the front line and Slingers-upgraded-to-Archers for the back line with mounted units on the flanks to eventually capture cites. Then you'll have promoted Archers to upgrade to Crossbowmen as well as promoted Immortals to upgrade to Musketmen.

Considering just about everything revealed so far is emphasizing Cyrus as a hard, fast, sudden conqueror, I think they'll maybe try to balance him out a bit with an agenda emphasizing his magnanimous nature.
Maybe something to do with letting the Jews go free, or allowing freedom of worship, or the proto-declaration of human rights from the Cyrus cylinder?
Maybe he dislikes or targets civs he perceives as bad rulers or unfair somehow?
Honestly, if Immortals gain the ability to generate a zoc right out the gate, they'll be incredibly powerful for sieging cities all alone. I was just worried that Cyrus would be SOL if horses aren't available.
I'm curious how the Immortal's upgrade line works. The only other instance of a unit from one line replacing one from another is the Maryannu, but it is at the beginning, so nothing upgrades into it.
But besides capturing cities, that has no upside, right? Promotions are evidently for range and melee.
In the FL video, the assault on the city is Immortals only though. So maybe the can capture cities somehow...
