I dont see anything wrong with the state offering vanity plates as long as they offer them to everyone.
For example, you could put a little star of David where the cross is with the same "I Believe' and voila its a Jewish vanity plate. Or use a crescent moon/Palm for Islam. Or whatever.
Heck, you could also just put a big zero and change the words to 'I dont believe' for athiests.
Regardless of contitutionality, I think it's a silly idea for the government to include devisive issues such as religious and political beliefs on liscense plates.
In certain areas advocacy of a college or pro team is a helluva lot more divisive with most people than piddling little issues like religion or politics. Would you be more confortable leaving your Michigan plated car or your Jesus plated car in the student areas of Columbus the weekend of the MI OU game? I wouldnt park my PGH Steelers plated car in the lots at Baltimore/Cleveland or Cincy during any of those games.
For as much emphasis most people like to put on religion here, most people in the real world dont give two sits about crap like this.
