Foreign Policy: Apolyton

According to APT Mod Poly gifted us 118 gold this turn :)

That is correct. They did indeed gave us money. MZ asked however to give us only 118 gold this turn and the rest to 150 the next turn. I made the screenshots before end turn, but just forgot to upload them, I took them at at my wife pink vaio, while my PC was occupied by wife and kids watching cartoons on my big screen :)

Once we sign our basic agreement with CP, we must send the formal agreement to Apolyton too.

Apolyton.net seems to be down, with a DNS malfunction of some sort (I can't resolve the address at all). I assume someone has made Robert Plomp aware of it, but just thought the team should be aware of the fact that Poly currently has no forum to discuss things on.

As I mentioned in the CP thread, we should send Poly a thank-you message for their help in gifting us gold so we could tech Nat in time to get Taj before RB.

Also, do we want to do this? It might be best to stay on the fence a little longer to see how things play out between Poly-CivFr-CP.

I haven't been checking civstats at all recently (or updating the spreadsheet ), but just happened to check it now and saw that Poly performed 8 whips of 2 pop or more this turn

Any ideas what this could have been?

Heya,

Are you on a break from civ? :)
just wanted to ask your and your team's thoughts on why would RB switch to nationhood right now. I understand their empire is big, bureaucracy is not that good in a cap w/o academy and that they have globe theatre to draft almost freely. But they lack techs to draft good soldiers yet.
In any case it's quite clear that they want to build up for war and I just wonder, as the biggest civ next to RB what would you do if they attacked a small civ in their neighbour?
Like us for example.. they did not answer our proposal to extend our NAP. (I don't think this war would be in RB's interest, but would surely screw us.)

Congrats on the Taj and the your victory over the Zulus btw :).

This letter I got in my personal mail from MZprox.

His questions and worries are absolutely understandable and expected. What makes me strongest impression is he refers to us as the strongest civ to take care of RB.

To my understanding it is imperative that we sign our NAP with Apolyton. We count on them to be our dedicated allies against RB and we have nothing left to wait for. What can happen between CP and CivFR and Poly to change our intentions about Poly? We need to have solid basic NAP with Poly and from there, we can work towards whatever best suits us - being it RB or CivFR. Sitting on the fence is not suitable for a nation which wants to play major role in the game as ours. No one loves overly-smart and elusive asses. The decent players despise them for not having clear position and the not-so-decent players hate them for being like them :)

I agree with this :)

This is the initial variant for discussion of our basic NAP agreement with Team Apolyton:

Apolyton-CivFanatics Treaty (ACFT)

Section 1. Members of the Apolyton-CivFanatics Treaty

1.1. Team Apolyton

1.2. Team CivFanatics

Section 2. Treaty Duration and Terms

2.1. The pact cannot be canceled before the beginning of turn 200.

2.2. The members of this treaty cannot enter into agreements with third parties which interfere or may cause interference to any of its clauses.

2.4. Both members of the treaty must adhere to all clauses together.

Section 3. Non-Aggression Pact

3.1. The members agree to not conduct actions which will lead to declaration of war between the members of this pact while this pact is in effect.

3.2. If any of the members is at war with third party, the other member agrees to not help to that third party.

3.2.1. Giving aid to a third party includes, but is not limited to providing gold, gifting units, giving espionage information, etc.

3.3. Both members agree to consult with the other member before gifting military units to a third party, whether they are at war with a treaty member or not, for the duration of the pact.

Section 4. Open Borders

4.1. Both members agree to maintain an Open Borders treaty to facilitate trade and unit movement for the length of this pact.

Section 5. Espionage

5.1. Both members agree to not exceed 100 espionage spending against the other before the beginning of turn 200.

Section 6. Map Trading

6.1. Both members will freely gift maps to the other on request.

Section 7. Economical mutual help:

7.1. Both members agree to help each- other with money loans of resources trades when this is required for short- terms races against other teams.

Section 8. Temporary Exceptions

8.1. Temporary exceptions can be made to the terms of the pact with the express agreement of both members. This is meant to allow either member to react to unforeseen circumstances or circumstances outside of their control.

Section 9. Amendments

9.1. A proposed amendment may be submitted by either member.

9.2. A proposed amendment will be adopted upon agreement of both members.

The economical help clause is to ensure we can help- each other just as they gave us money when we needed them most.

MZprox is asking exactly the same questions Bistrita did

Why don't we sign a formal defensive alliance? That would be enough of a justification to defend them if RB indeed does attack them (which it seems like they want to).

:) But how a defensive alliance will go along with all the NAPs we have in place?

I would assume that a defensive alliance would supersede a NAP - that's the point. We can assume that none of our other true friends, like CP, will attack them. From MZ's latest message, it looks likely that RB might try and attack them before our NAP with them expires. That would be disastrous. We need some reason or another to be able to defend our de facto ally, and a formal defensive alliance would achieve just that.

Well, yeah. Declaring war as a result of a defensive alliance means we aren't the aggressor - therefore, we have not violated non-aggression.

Though this really should be spelled out more clearly in subsequent deals we make.
