Foreign Policy: UniversCiv

Here it is. It must be inside the mountains exactly where we had uncovered black tile:

Yes spanish/hispanic/latina/chicana/brazilian culos are pretty sweet.

Before we start celebrating, we should send a message back to UCiv ASAP saying clearly, that we dont want the Ivory resource, we don't even see it, they are free to settle to connect it under our NAP, and we confirm that we have a NAP until (?). Please let's not delay this as tying them down to a NAP immediately is critical in this situation we are in.

Agreed. Let's send the reply quick. It shouldn't be hard, but we want to make sure at least that they don't settle their Ivory city in a place that wouldn't allow us to settle the Marble city. We were ready to give up things of value to get a NAP. Giving up a hitherto unknown elephant is a price we'll pay gladly. If no one is jumping on this in a little bit, I'll throw together something.

EDIT: I just realized that "Agreed." could be ambiguous.

Agree with all except for saying we dont see it. No need to tell this.

They obviously want to settle their city east of the mountains, otherwise they could have just settled west of the mountains in the jungle. Here are the possibilities I see with them settling a city to claim the elephants. Also our possibilities to settle the Marble.

This is very good news indeed. Though, I'm starting to think that we might need to be quick about getting the Spanish cities. UCiv whipping indicates that they could be preparing to join the battle against SpAp.

Edit: Was typing this before 2metra's post above, so that's why this might lack some context.

Good news. Yes, sounds like this should be an easy negotiation.

If I recall, we were hoping to settle 1N of the marble, which would also be in the no-settle zone. So it sounds like an easy swap -- you settle the ivory; we settle the marble. (Though perhaps we should move the city 1E of the marble instead -- in the direction of the dead Spaniards.

In terms of diplomacy, say that we're happy to accept a NAP and we'll negotiate settling regions separately from that. Our general thoughts for settling is that they get the ivory and we get the marble (which is similarly close to one of our cities)

In my opinion we must tell them we are happy to let them have the Elephants and choose the location of their Elephant city west east of the mountains, because we want only to settle a city to claim the marble. And with that we consider the last obstacle to our NAP removed and we consider we have NAP till t140.

edit: LOL, I meant east.

If they settle U1, and we settle CFC1+2, it looks like it works out nicely.

Edit: yes, even better if they settle W of the mountains.

Telling that we did not know that the 'phant is there would assure them that we did not intentionally set the no-settle zone to prevent them the resource.

Good point. Agree on telling them that we did not knew the location of the elephant if we make the clarification about that was not our reason for proposing this border.

Now I see that if they settle U2 we have no way of settling marble city actually - the desert 2E of the Marble is already 1 tile from the Spanish city. So we must propose them ONLY U1 and U3

Let them settle ivory wherever they want. We'll be taking it off their hands soon enough after the NAP ends, anyways.

Let's say they can settle anywhere to get ivory, but we'd prefer if they didn't settle U2 spot. I think any other spot that got the Ivory would be OK with us and that is an easy to communicate settlement plan.

But if they settle U2, we cant get Marble unless we culture bomb Hansa or we raze KwaDukuza or something else extravagant in the next 50 turns.

Tomorrow morning I will make a map to send to them. Can we have ready message till then? It will be tomorrow for them too assuming they are in France.

I would sent them a quick message asap that we are OK with them settling ivory and consider our NAP in effect. And that we will follow soon with a map to propose mutually convenient settling of the area, but we will only consider situations in which they connect the damned elephant ;-)

Please, Sommerswerd is very right that we should secure this NAP immediately!

We can iron out details later, even offer them something if the would insist on settling elephant in a way that would deny us marble - but this is not important now.

We should tell them "Ok, in the spirit of compromise you can settle at {U1 spot} to get the Ivory."
