Foreign Policy: UniversCiv

I don't think we should make any huge sacrifices to increase our cultural output in the area, but getting a new settler + missionary up there should be a high priority. If we settle the area early enough, I think we can secure enough of the river valley to make this area very useful for us.

I agree with Sommers that we don't need to be offering them any free missionaries at this point. Without a shrine, there's just nothing in it for us. If they come to us asking for help to spread a religion, then we can negotiate a price for our missionaries, but I don't see a good reason to bring it up ourselves.

How about a message back to them? Here's what I was thinking.

Hi Yuufo,

Thanks for being straighforward with us. Since we have quite a bit on our hands with the Spanish situation, we're happy to table this for now, and come back to it later.

Speaking of the Spaniards, do you have any vision on what they are up to? Their army disappeared from our borders a few turns ago and now we're trying to figure out what they are planning so we don't get any nasty surprises.

Your friends,

Team CFC

Sending our missionaries will do many things even if we dont have a shrine. Easier visibility. This is nice. Cheaper techs steal when we come to this. And: preventing RB sending one of their own and then Uciv spreading their money bringing religion in their 15 cities for RB to enjoy.

The message is OK. I feel a bit strange about "tabling the issue for now". If someone would said that to me, I will read it like: "You just wait, I will deal with you later and make you regret what you did now". :)

Regret comes from the "we will talk about this later" where we talked now and they say they wont change their settling plans. We said it once and they refused it. Tabling it later means that we are not OK with their settling plan, but we have no time/prefer not to make noise out of it now and we will remind them about this later (when the city is already planted, so we cant change this except for capturing it or something.)

I agree. Maybe we should just drop it and just beat them to the location. We have a NAP so they can't do anything about it unless they want to be (NAP-breakers:().

Maybe send this message instead:
Hi Yuufo,

Thanks for being straighforward with us. Since we have quite a bit on our hands with the Spanish situation, we greatly appreciate knowing where we stand with our friends.

Just realized we hadn't replied yet, so I went ahead and sent Sommers' revised message.

Just as well the revised one was sent. "Tabling" an issue is a tricky word because it can mean the complete opposite of itself! Above we have to "table" an issue (put it away til later) which is the US sense of the phrase, however it's more common in the UK for to "table an issue" to mean to raise it as an issue for discussion now.

Edit: turns out Wikipedia even has a page on it: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Table_(parliamentary_procedure)

Hmmm... interesting... Their army is not in the north. Is it in the south? Bistrita said they might be keeping that city in the south empty to lure us of attacking there and this to be set up trap. This will be surprise for me honestly. I think most reasonable guess is their army is just as ours in the middle between the north and south ready to react to attack on both fronts.

I would love to, but where we take spies from?
You are the General... General. This is for you to decide;). I just lounge on my elegant sofa yelling advice while being fed grapes by servant girls with big ostrich feather fans:D

LOL, good idea about the slave-girls and their mighty blowing. I wont ask for you to share those, but will need to go and capture Zulu ones on my own.

We need to send something to Uciv telling them we need to settle our Marble city on the resource itself.

Something short and simple is best, I think.

Hi Yuufo,

We wanted to let you know that due to Zulu pressure in the region, we will need to settle our city on top of the Marble. We plan to settle this soon.

Thanks,
