I thought about this as well, but I think finishing the GL first is the correct choice. The GL provides 12*1.25=15 beakers, whereas the Paya with FR will only provide a 10% research bonus. I can't see the save but I'm guessing we have less than 150 beakers base research, so the GL first will provide a few extra beakers (assuming we can't grow big enough to produce >150 beakers in the time it takes to complete the GL). Yeah, it's only going to make a 10-20 beaker difference but we need all the research we can get.

Ah, you are right. So, the correct sequence is to swap to Swegadon Paya, rush it, completes GL, then revolt. IIRC, rushing a wonder would cause the hammers in that turn to all overflow, so we would not lose any turns on TGL. Plus, we have monopoly on Lit, but not Aesthetic. Better to rush Paya first.

You guys are in for a rough road if you start using your great people for anything other than settling them. Settling them gives you those extra hammers all game long...and youre gonna need that....especially when and IF you get to building space parts.
I also noticed that you were working farms instead of putting workboats on the sea resources....that is a weedy move. Why would you throw that extra commerce away? Early in the game, ....before COL and caste, you have a ton of excess food that whipping and specialist cant help you with. Had you put cottages on those floodplains, you would still be able to have 2 scientist, an engineer, and still have excesss food......and those cottages would help you pull further away in a tech lead.

I played only 6 turns because I ran out of time. Buuuut, many things happened.
For starters: What connects the computers in Sauron's office?
So, as discussed, I started rushing the Papaya:
I mmed the city for max specialists this turn and got 10 hammers of overflow to the next turn. Then I mmed back to max hammers. This is fun.
In the IBT:
I agreed as we only had OB with him and Darius was the last on the scoreboard.
Then, for anyone who, like me, hasn't seen this yet:
I ordered the worker to farm the rice for the health, but I'm not as comfortable as I should be with HRE... There are so many troops around that rice tile. I'll make a gamble. If he declares, we're toast anyway..
I think this proves my decision with Toku to be right:

I see Toku almost founding Christianity and Gilly is on his way to feudalism. It will be good to know what JC and Izzy are up to, right?
Someone said something about getting CS next, so I started on CoL. The 15 beaker that is there already is because of the anarchy, I think. So you can treat this as a "no turns invested". But the revolt took 2 turns off CoL. Nobody founded Confucianism yet... I was going to try trading for currency but no sugar. JC and Gilly, I think, have it already but are unwilling to trade. It's gonna be a good check every turn as it'll speed CoL up if we can make it.
Oh! And I put the Parthenon on the building queue. I think we can toss a WB out first. In one turn, if we mm the city to starve. Then it'll grow faster.
Another thought: how are we gonna link that marble? If we build a fort, will that link the tile to our trade network? Or should we need Izzy's OB for it to work? Well, I'm building a road in the forested hill, as it won't be wasted anyway and we should hope for her to finish the road to that city of hers near the marble.

While this logic would normally be true if we weren't playing OCC (since you'll need hammers for military), our goal requires us to maximize research. It's very rare that you'll be production limited in building the spaceship parts as the beakers needed to research space race techs is very high compared to the hammers required to build parts. The settled engineer would only provide 3 * 1.25 = 3.75 beakers at this point, and the Paya provides a bigger research bonus than that. I think... Granted, the Paya bonus will only "last" until we get liberalism but even then, I think it'll earn us more beakers than the settled engineer will for the length of the game (especially once the Globe is built and we grow to 20+).
Any non-GE/GS should immediately be settled but for GE's, settling will depend on the availability of current wonders and how much value those wonders have. Building wonders slows down AI tech rates as well (e.g., ToA, Statue) so burning a GE on a wonder isn't necessarily bad.
As for GS's, We may want to bulb part of education if we get a well timed GS so that we can build Oxford earlier (or an academy too - forgot we don't have one yet) but any GS's after liberalism are probably better spent settling them (assuming our game will go until the mid 1900's).
I think we're just going to have to gamble on HRE. If we can keep Julius pleased or better, we should be able to bribe him against any of the other civs on the map... I think. That will relieve any AIs with too much on their hands. HRE is impossible to bribe into wars, as is a non-pleased Toku. I don't think Gilgamesh can be bribed either, so our two war bribing civs are the Spanish and the Romans. But keeping good relations with both will be very difficult... If we have to pick one to butter up, I'd say go for the Romans - Caesar is much much easier to manage and doesn't have negative modifiers for close borders with us.

I have to agree... with the death of Darius, we are officially the trash player and I'm sure that HRE sooner or later will try his luck on us ( probably when he gets his UU in sizable ammounts ). Toku is a
in terms of help and Gilgamesh is not worth the effort of buttering him... That leaves our favourite religious zealot ( that may try a stunt against the hindu by herself, but I doubt that she helps us by request... ) and JC, that is not exactly trustable, but it makes a decent hound dog with some asskissing.... I vote for JC.

I think a DoW is eminent, so maybe now it is the right time to go for workboats and net the remaining two seafood so that we can fall back to those if farms get pillaged.

Well my recommendations are already in the previous posts ...
- Time to get some workboats out ... we need some high food tile to fallback to
- Charle is bound to declare during your turnset, so it will be wise to add one or two axes/spear (sword are useless ... we are playing defensively)
- get Parthenon if you can
- theatre > Globe not so high in priority compared to workboats/axes/spears/Parthenon/Colossus
- Consider trading for some requisite tech for Feudalism (i.e. Monarchy). If we can reach longbows before HRE declare, we would be safe.

swords are NOT useless ~ i've found them, w/their 6 str, to be good archer killers when needed, esp when their on forests or hills. Axes are just too unreliable imo.

I decided to stop the game here, because we need to make some decisions. First of all, religion : Izzy and JC are budha and in a normal game in a game in my confort area I would think seriously on ganging with them, but Im not sure of this in here.... maybe it is better to stay unnoticed
Second point is what to do to the GS.... We have a good bulb in table ( Philo.... in spite of we dont need it for Pacifism ), a academy option and settling. I would go for Philo, but maybe one of the other options is better....
Third, research path: I choosed CS ( no brainer ) , but maybe a Feud detour is in hand for LBs
Fourth, build order: were building a theatre and have workboat queued. We have other options after finishing theatre : National , Globe and even the HG is still open
Fifth, civics: I postponed caste for two reasons. First, caste will only be fully effective after globe. Second, wanted input about pacifism ( that needs a religion ). Like I said above, the diplo had changed and maybe a state religion may be in hand. If that happens, pacifism may be a option....

Good turns by the way. There isn't much to whip except for the lack of specialists ... the early GPs (or lack thereof) are going to make or break this game.
@pholky: with the change in AI war behavior, you are not going to see lone archers wandering around. Plus we already had two. We need no more. It is now the lack of spears that worry me.
I still think we should go for feudalism first ... I would definitely feel safer. CS is of-course undeniably important for OCC .... so maybe a trade for feudalism later (provided we had not already crossed the WFYABTA limit)?

I've got it, and not entire sure what to do atm ~ if we're not too far along with CS, i will go w/feudalism first. I have a sinking feeling Charlie will DoW me during my set.
Also, i'll throw in a spear or two during my set, after the theatre finishes to ease Fox's worries. I will also try to check, double-check and triple-check everything before I am done.

I think the lack of specialists may break us... I would have built the two workboats earlier and sent them out and stopped working the mines to hire scientists etc. We need to get CS ASAP. I think CS first is more important than feudalism. HRE is piling units because that city is at the border and subject to a culture flip.

As you guys can see in other threads, I'm with time issues right now. However, I won't ask to be out of the roster in this game. I'll just stick to Mr. Fox's overseas policy. If I don't say otherwise in a few hours, skip me. This stands really strict for weekends, where I'll have very limited internet time.
