What really happened: Ravenna was Stalin's. It was entirely surrounded by Egyptian culture, even that little lake was Egyptian. We had open borders. The frigate was in Ravenna, a one tile Russian holding. Ravenna revolted and joined Egypt. For some reason, the frigate got kicked into that lake, where it has remained ever since.

I was thinking more along the lines of Battleship Potemkin, but once again Stalin's empire collapses to the cultural power of [Egyptian] Blue Jeans.

That part is even worse than it looks. Egypt has already flipped (cultural) four Russian cities, three more are mostly Egyptian culture and two of those have already had their first Egyptian revolt.

I had a funny moment (for me anyway) that resulted in this diplomacy screen. Randomly Joao declared war on me. His vassals Sitting Bull and Charlemagne followed suit. That started a domino effect as Gengis, Hammurabi and Pacal joined in, declaring war on people. The war horn just kept going and going, it was hilarious I asked Monty for help but he said he had too much on his hands already... of course 2 turns later he declares war on me too!
