Smoke and Machines?
Will they bring Rifleman and Gatling guns back to Civ 6?
I suspect a DLC and or expansion will fill in a lot of unit gaps. Riflemen, yes. Medieval melee, yes. Medieval Siege (Trebuchet), yes. Likely also Future Units (they confirmed previously they’d been working on some, but them shifted to just the GDR, and they also have stuff to work from after Civ BERT, so seems likely).
Did anyone notice they just announced a port for XCOM 2 to Nintendo Switch?
I have now! Freaking awesome.
In other news. Twitter for some FXS employees suggests everyone is working from home, and some are finding their VPNs have long delays meaning coding is taking longer. I suspect there is some real delay because of WFH.

Lots of good stuff in these posts. I agree with a lot (but not all) of this stuff.
Few random thoughts in response.
- Survey. I recall the survey didn’t have options for new mechanics. It was more focused on new districts, buildings and units, in addition to leaders, civs, and scenarios. I don’t think there was any discussion of an Expansion, just big v small dlc and or patches, and paid v free content. I answered bigger stuff less often, happy to pay for it. Hadn’t realised that also meant “nonews for long periods of time”.
- What’s planned and did plans change? Maybe big blow-out expansion. Who knows. I think mini-expansions and Civ + Leader scenarios dlc are still the most likely, with the dlc maybe coming with some limited additional free content (like units). Who knows what was planned or when plans changed. I’d originally thought the survey was about why to release after the next expansion. Just given the delay, that could still be right. Maybe there’s been no change in plans - they always intended a third expansion, and then dlc after that, and they always intended to release later in 2020 (with maybe some delay now bc CV19). Anyway. The longer the delay, the more likely I think it is we get an expansion (bigger than GS, GS sized, or somewhat smaller) plus a few leader / scenario dlc after that, which other than the Long wait would be an awesome outcome.
- Is there enough content for a 3XP? What would it contain? Yes there’s enough space for a 3XP. And I’d guess it would cover Ideologies and war. My thinking is pretty simple.
- First, Ed said he wanted to do more with ideology and global conflict.
- Second, Civ 6 and expansions have been very consistent in bringing back previous mechanics, particularly from Civ 5, and Ideology was a big Mechanic.
- Third, there is obvious Ideology stuff to do., eg
- Ideological Pressure (game already has tourism, loyalty and happiness, so that’s easy; it’s actually easier to swap between ideologies, so Ideological pressure would actually work better; and tier 4 governments could create additional pressure, so that would work well)
- mid-late game ideological focused governors (seems like a logical place to go given the existing governors are based on Civ V social policies, it’s a bit limited having only 8 governors which are the same for everyone every game (except for Ibrahim) and we really don’t really have an equivalent of Civ V Ideology Policies)
- Ideological based wonders (maybe even return of National Wonders, which the District mechanism is just made for), maybe even Ideological units.
- Fourth, Ideology would be an easy hook for expanded content like economics / corporations, economic victory, future tech, war and World Congress.
- Patch. I expect we’ll get a fairly decent patch. My guess is a patch will tweak Religion, rebalancing beliefs (and hopefully adding more belief-linked unique units and improving religious buildings). If we’re lucky, and patch might also give us a few treats like more unique units for barbs.
- Timing. I’d be amazed if we get anything before mid year, which is super annoying. I don’t get the silence other than just “thats what FXS do”. CV19 is clearly a factor in timing, but who knows precisely what that’s done to the timetable.
