Futurism as an architectural style?

I mean to create some futuristic sets, but i know very little of the history of this type of architecture, and in reality only have some ideas of it through painting, not actual buildings.

I am thinking of modeling the various constructions on art created for the Amiga old game "Utopia: The Creation of a Nation"

But i am open to other ideas/suggestions. I want the set to be obviously something that refers to a future time.

Couldn't you also use alot of Soviet Constructivist and Internationalist styling?
Based on what I remember from an architecture book I read a while ago and a breif wiki search, this is considered to be an example of Italian Futurism:

It seems to share quite a bit with early art deco, like the spires and some of the 'swoopy-ness'.

Thank you for the suggestions :)

The modernist buildings look ugly imo, and ideally i would want something out of this era ;)

That italian futurism pic is excellent btw.

You could also use alot of the early art deco work seen in Metropolis.

I'm no sure how well you can translate the swooping curves into a 2d image though.

The construction of Brazil's capital, Brazillia, which holds a million residents, have a lot of modern arhitectures too and I am sure that it would be a good reference :)

Examples like the National Congress of the Federative Republic of Brazil and the Cathedral of Brazil are really brilliant designs.

No offense, but I can't even tell what anything is supposed to be.

The art itself is good, but I am just not sure what's going on. Maybe post an in-game shot?

Is it meant to be dystopian looking? Do you want a more dystopian or utopian style? For a more utopian look, I suggest you place lots of buildings that look like they focus on sustainable living. Solar panels, monorail systems, vertical farms. Something like this building:

Thank you for the help :)

I am not sure what i am doing with the set, since i have never tried to make a futuristic one before...

But how about this as an alien mothership town 1?

Thank you :)

I experimented a bit, and made this monstrosity:

Not sure AT ALL if it looks any good though...
Three reccomendation:
1)space out the town much more.
2)fewer buildings (or a bunch of really short ones and one really tall one)
3)lighten it up.
I think your best bet is to have some rather generic looking buildings surrounding one totaly awsome Futurist building, sort of like the cityscape in Metropolis.

Thank you for the help :)

It looks a bit to primitive/mesoamerican to be convincing as an alien ship.

It is the inverted Chamkrong (a Khmer landmark) i made for the ancient east-asian set:

To me most of these intricate indian or indian-influenced buildings look liek they could be alien... Just due to them being so different from what i am used to no doubt :)

Unfortunately, I think that is futurism, in a word - ugly! Perhaps you might pass on this one?

Still, just want to say I admire the sheer number of sets you've been making!

What do you mean by "futuristic sets" ? Based on futurism - one of the interbellum modernist movment- or just some sci-fi sets?

Originally i wanted to have sets of the futurism architectural style, but by now i think it became evident that any reasonably interesting future-style building concept art would help me...

Futurism as an architectural style isn't 'futuristic architecture', which draws more from Internationalism and Modernism. Futurism is more what people expected the future to look like, assuming that the trends in early Art Deco/Utilitarianism/Constructivism continued (combined with a good dose of pseudo-Fascism found in Italian Futurism).

Here is another example of Futurism:

If you want to create a 'futuristic architecture' cityset, that is great, but Futurism as a design preceeded the architectural styles that are found in 'futuristic architecture'.

Well, if you want it to look like a cool future, lighten up the colour on it I'd think. Actual Ivory Towers were always something I liked from Alpha Centauri.

If it's supposed to be a dystopian future, take the (wings? Crenellations?) off of it, and just square it off at the top. Right now it looks like Orthanc at Isengard.
