General Politics Three: But what is left/right?

For those who grew up during the later part of the HIV crisis the fact that it was played down by the political and medical establishment in the earlier stages was common knowledge.
While this is true, it doesn't necessarily follow that one US president in particular is going to be popularly understood in other countries as the cause of this, by those who weren't around in the 1980s. I would assume most people know their own country's failures in particular?

That said, you largely can't read a re-telling of the Australian response to the crisis without it being compared to the Reaganite US one, so maybe that happens in other countries too.

Okay so maybe this is the wrong thread to bring up trade relations and the US presidential race but... China is suffering deflation in pockets of their economy and XI is not willing to take his foot off the gas. Somehow, someway, they intend to flood the US market with cheap EVs and not EVs only. Essentially exporting deflation -if the US domestic market is not protected it will have an extreme economic impact and could spoil this wonderful AI bubble on the street and that might only be a footnote as the impact on US jobs could be horrific.

If we lose unfathomable jobs to cheap Chinese imports at the same time that employers are trying to boost productivity by replacing humans with AI we could see a once in a lifetime event, impossible to gauge the impact but the range of pain is enormous.

Protectionism is sour milk to a conservative but there is a season for all things. I'd think we should consider which of the presidential candidates is most likely to effectively counter the Chinese threat and I mean seriously consider and debate it because I think that would be the best basis for casting a vote this November.

cheap EVs sounds like a good idea

So, Putin is saying Tucker was not so useful?
It seemed more like Putin was saying Tucker wasn't any fun.

You appear to be underestimating Putin and giving Tucker more credit than he is due. Putin was a predator playing with his food. He expected a gazelle that would at least give him a good chase... or a bull, who would at least put up a fight... instead he got an apple pie, that just sat there and let him eat.

Still, the trials and counts are so arrayed against Trump it seems he is going to be toast eventually absent divine intervention. Or, additional intervention, as the cases may be.
I see that you think Trump is above the law and should not be indicted for crimes. Or do you think he is innocent of those crimes? Do you actually think Trump did not try to interfere with the GA election? Do you think that Trump did not pay off Stormy Daniels to keep her claiims out of the election cycle? Do you think Trump rightfully owns all the documents he took to FL and refused to return? Do you think Trump won the 2020 election and he rightfully tried to over turn the results? These are all crimes. Trump has worked very hard to delay all the attempts to hold himself accountable and because of his delays, those indictments are now interwoven with the election, so he claims election interference.

I don’t know what all the complaints are about. I was driving mine the other day, complaining about its performance, and even without me calling the manufacturer an agent was already at my home, inside!
So you are saying that you buy an EV, and if you complain, they eavesdrop and execute a home invasion. Sounds like a deal.

I see that you think Trump is above the law and should not be indicted for crimes.
In general, I think that ex-presidents should have broad immunity and complete immunity from spurious prosecution. Or as the liberals like, gratuitous prosecutions. Most of the prosecutions against him is simply politics by other means, lawfare.
Or do you think he is innocent of those crimes?
He appears to be completely innocent of the crimes in the recently concluded NY trial in which he is being shaken down for over a third of a billion.
Do you actually think Trump did not try to interfere with the GA election?
I believe Trump believed he was simply trying to find a way to reverse a stolen election in Ga. Somewhere between a third and 40% of Americans believe the election was rigged.
Do you think that Trump did not pay off Stormy Daniels to keep her claims out of the election cycle?
I don't care.
Do you think Trump rightfully owns all the documents he took to FL and refused to return?
Given that Mike Pence and Joe Biden were also found to possess allegedly classified documents wrongly, I think the government has a big problem. How the heck can this happen? Can't they like, hire a few librarians. Librarians can at least keep track of what's out. This whole issue is a national disgrace.
Do you think Trump won the 2020 election and he rightfully tried to overturn the results?
I don't know and I doubt we will ever know how much fraud was perpetrated in that election. If Trump believed that the election was stolen, he would have every right and a solemn duty to take every possible step to set things right. If Trump did in fact understand that he did not win and did conspire to wrongfully overturn the results, then impeachment would be a constitutional remedy. Trump has in fact been twice impeached and twice acquitted. At this point the glaring point seems to be the motivations of those who have persecuted him from the moment it was apparent he would be the nominee in 2016.
These are all crimes.
So, you say. The law says Fani Willis committed the crime of adultery, by her admission. Do you support her prosecution of Trump on these ridiculos RICO charges given her revealed criminality? Do you think the state of Georgia should prosecute her for adultery?
Trump has worked very hard to delay all the attempts to hold himself accountable and because of his delays, those indictments are now interwoven with the election, so he claims election interference.
It is obviously election interference. I don't think this is a laughing matter.

I would say sexual predator, but same difference.

I think you missed the point I was trying to make. But I will say this. I think the public good would be best served if people stop throwing stones at Donald Trump and let the people vote. I get that Trump is hated. I also get that all Trump voters, supporters, republicans, conservatives, religious persons and more are hated, despised, mocked, considered half human and more and even worse things than I can imagine. But if you really want and respect democracy you have to respect the vote and the voters.

And if you don't - hypocrisy lies at the door.

O, how deplorable am I.

I was not really referring to your point, but that the US has what seems to me like such an antiquated law which I had just learned about thanks to your post. Considering your question to Bird I thought it appropriate to ask it of you.

Do you think the state of Georgia should prosecute her for adultery?
As to your last point:
In Georgia, adultery takes place when a person participates in either heterosexual or homosexual intercourse with someone who isn’t their spouse. While the term may seem like a remnant of an antiquated legal system, adultery can significantly affect several aspects of a divorce case in Georgia.

Adultery is one of the grounds for divorce in Georgia. If you’re filing or facing a divorce that involves adultery, find a legal counsel who can help you understand your rights and obligations and come up with an effective case strategy.

Is It Illegal to Cheat on Your Spouse in Georgia?

Technically, Title 16, chapter 9, section 9 of Georgia’s Code of Criminal Conduct states that “ A married person commits the offense of adultery when he voluntarily has sexual intercourse with a person other than his spouse and, upon conviction thereof, shall be punished as for a misdemeanor.” Essentially, in Georgia, adultery is considered a criminal offense and categorized as a misdemeanor. However, no one has been criminally prosecuted for adultery in the state in the last 100 years.

Is Adultery Illegal in Georgia?

As mentioned above, adultery is technically illegal in Georgia. The court uses a two-prong test to establish whether or not adultery has been committed. First, the occurrence of extra-marital sexual intercourse must be established. Second, the affair should be the cause of the couple’s separation.

Can You Go to Jail for Adultery in Georgia?

Although Georgia is still one of the few states with a criminal statute on adultery, no one has been criminally indicted for it in the past century. Law enforcement officials will also typically refuse to get involved in cases that involve adultery.

So no, I do not think Willis should be prosecuted for her relations with Wade.

As to your last point:

Misappropriation of state funds to hire your boyfriend might be prosecutable though.

1. In general, I think that ex-presidents should have broad immunity and complete immunity from spurious prosecution. Or as the liberals like, gratuitous prosecutions. Most of the prosecutions against him is simply politics by other means, lawfare.

2. He appears to be completely innocent of the crimes in the recently concluded NY trial in which he is being shaken down for over a third of a billion.

3. I believe Trump believed he was simply trying to find a way to reverse a stolen election in Ga. Somewhere between a third and 40% of Americans believe the election was rigged.

4. I don't care.

5. Given that Mike Pence and Joe Biden were also found to possess allegedly classified documents wrongly, I think the government has a big problem. How the heck can this happen? Can't they like, hire a few librarians. Librarians can at least keep track of what's out. This whole issue is a national disgrace.

7. It is obviously election interference. I don't think this is a laughing matter.
1. "Should"? But they don't and the constitution makes it clear that they don't have immunity. Trump even claimed in his impeachment trials that he could be prosecuted once he left office.
2. "appears to be innocent"? So the NY laws against business fraud don't apply? Do you think it is OK to lie on financials? How about taxes? How about on to stockholders and banks. Should I be able to lie to a bank to get a mortgage?
3. Did you listen to the phone call? He told GA to find the votes needed to declare him the winner. What those USians believe is irrelevant. Trump lost 60 court cases because he had no evidence of fraud only wishes that it were true. GOP voters were told by FoxNews and Talk radio that the election was rigged. They believed it without any evidence. Shame on them.
4. Whether or not you care is not a legal argument. It is election law and falsifying bushiness records that matter. Do you think that businesses should be able to falsify their records to hide misdeeds or illegal activity?
5. The "how did it happen" is a problem, but Trumps problem is that he refused to return them and obstructed the process of getting them back. Neither Pence nor Biden lied about having them or refused to return them. Trump did both.
6.There is no evidence anywhere that the election was not fair and true and Trump lost. Trump was told by multiple people on his staff and in his administration that it was fair and true. IIRC his daughter told him he lost. He ignored them all and planned a coup. Wishing he had not lost is not a legal argument.
7. It is only Trump's delays that have taken this process so long. Voters are not juries and Trump will be on the ballot. The election is separate from his indictments. Yes, all this would have been much better if concluded in 2023. You can thank Trump that it is not.

If you are not aware, Trump has been indicted by grand juries and not government employees beholden to Biden.

I was not really referring to your point, but that the US has what seems to me like such an antiquated law which I had just learned about thanks to your post. Considering your question to Bird I thought it appropriate to ask it of you.
Pardon me. I do get going on. No, I do not think people should be prosecuted for adultery in and of itself, outside of the complications of divorce and a whole range of other considerations, no, I do not condone stoning. However, first, I do not live in Ga. and wholly respect their rights to set their own laws, and second, it is a serious matter and serious failure of character and a sorry state to be in.

Regardless of the details of the case, Willis has seriously muddied the waters so that even if she did in fact have Trump dead to rights, she has now guaranteed that any result adverse to Trump will be tainted in the eyes of many. This has actually reminded me of Michael Avenatti. Which is probably not what they were shooting for when they kicked off this case, either in Georgia or Washington or wherever this bad idea was conceived.

Misappropriation of state funds to hire your boyfriend might be prosecutable though.
Yes, that is. As soon as they show evidence of it they will have a case. CI was talking about adultry though.

This has actually reminded me of Michael Avenatti.
And the law caught up with him and treated him appropriately. The same legal system applies to Trump.

because America has the nukes and a two bit superpower military , the Europeans pay 3 billions a year to stall a lot of refugees and whatnot and dump their garbage in New Turkey . Without that American military power the Europeans could not .
