[RD] George Floyd and protesting while black

There was a white guy I went to high school who was murdered by two cops for no reason several years ago, they completely got away with it. Even white people are not safe anymore. We should all be in this, United together against police brutality.

(I am not white myself)

I believe I said that dismantling the police force wasn't practical because it would lead to anarchy.

Almost no one outside of people fringe minority political views would seriously indicate that anarchy is an acceptable long term solution. But I the vast majority of people who are angry (even violent) do not want that.

The problem, in this particular case, is they’ve already tried everything else, and nothing has changed. Anarchy is not an acceptable long term solution, but neither is this. Cops must be held accountable for murdering people for no valid reason, and violence may very well be the only thing that will stop it.

I will not go as far as @Timsup2nothin who basically said peaceful protests are always useless no matter what, but for this particular issue... they’ve already tried everything else, time and time again. Almost no one wants the police to be permanently disbanded. We just want them to be held accountable for their crimes, rather being able to literally murder at will as long as they can cook up some half assed excuse.

I am nowhere near as far to the left as an actual anarchists and I support the concept of private property, etc. I like the idea of law enforcement to protect and serve. To save innocent citizens from criminals.

The problem in this case, though, is the cure is worse than the disease.

firefighter invested his life savings in a sports bar, it was torched...and uninsured

Sooooooo....you are crying out against this lawbreaking scoundrel I guess?

I mean, there is absolutely nowhere in the US you can be uninsured running a business legally.

Ooops, look at that, quarter million in go-fund-me money. Fair bet that's more than he saved up as a firefighter. Guess that worked out.

What is your point here Berz, other than to throw us a link to the scummy Daily (name) Caller?

Fascism is here - 30 second video, no edits or cuts

What are you gonna do about it?

Link a video on the internet?

Commit to violent rebellion?

Leave the country?

I'm sure there are various choices falling between those as well. What's yours?

I don't know. I live in the middle of nowhere, so nothing's happening locally. It's a bit early for violent rebellion, which seems likely to end in tears any way you slice it.

I'm in the declared state of emergency LA county, but on the fringes and well removed from any activity here as well. I'm pretty much at a loss, which is why I returned the question. I mean, if that happened on my block it would probably be really tempting to resort to sniper fire, but it's not my block so ????

Hey, don't crap where you eat.

In case anybody is confused why there's hundreds of riots and thousands of burned buildings:

Minneapolis is not some special outlier or exception.

It's pretty hard to imagine cops roaming in a pack like that here, but I'm sure those people wouldn't have guessed they'd ever see it either so I dunno.

I'm thinkin' that if one of that pack caught a bullet in the face from decent range down the street they'd break for cover and the shooter would have a fair chance to evade, but it's hard to tell with how jacked up they are...they just might charge. Gotta wonder how the terrorized residents would respond at that point as well. Would the people who just got pepper balled on their own front porch offer aid? Break into cheers? Somewhere in between?

Meanwhile, on the media coverage front...

CNN has multiple reports of their news crews being assaulted and shot at by cops, while FoxNews reporters have been chased by rioters. Coincidence?

I saw an absolutely fantastic video of the White House crowd chasing a Breitbarf reporter out of their protest, first they pushed him out kind of gently with words and body language, then he got chased half a block at least and ended up running away without his shirt after a short scuffle. I want to say this was Thursday or Friday? Time is a failed concept to me right now.

Probably some reality mixed in with the bias. Is it FOX News or local fox channels being chased? They probably know what kind of reporting FOX wants to do and they don't want it to happen.

I think we've just reached a tipping point of raw anger. Trump is retweeting his base to fire them up, including such sentiments as "the only good democrat is a dead democrat," and the opposition is ready to just go feral as well. The media hasn't been allowed to play the neutral journalist card, because Fox has openly claimed a side. They are going to draw the same kind of fire Trump would if he made an appearance.

I don't really see how this ends, to be honest. Usually it takes rolling a high enough head; police chief resigns, maybe a mayor steps down. But man the anger is nation wide and running deep right now and even though Minneapolis touched it off I really don't know if some local Minnesota official heads are gonna do it.

It probably could have simmered down at this point were it not for all of the unprovoked police violence against media, and protesters, and completely uninvolved pedestrians who aren't even protesting. It might not have been very likely, but they're just pouring gas on the fire when they do drive-by pepper spraying on random innocent people in a crosswalk.

I had my eyes set on a specific Canik pistol to pick up at mailed to a local FFL some no-hurry point in June, but now I'm thinking I'm driving 80 miles away to get it or my second choice (that I don't particularly want, compared to a Canik) in person. Today. Maybe I won't do that. I'm not set in stone about it. But this has me considering getting a lot more serious in a hurry. It's very worrying.

EDIT: geez site picked the worst time to go down. The reading flow of the first two sentences into the others makes it sound really bad, on re-read, and I couldn't edit it :(. I'm worried about this because I'm worried about the absolute breakdown of law and order, directly caused and amplified by fascist cops - not worried about the cops personally. Honestly my personal interactions have always been friendly.

Came across this fantastic gem from 2003:

Rumsfeld: Looting is transition to freedom (UPI).
WASHINGTON, April 11 (UPI) -- U.S. forces should not be blamed for the lawlessness and looting in Baghdad as it is a natural consequence of the transition from a dictatorship to a free country, Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld said Friday at the Pentagon.
You love to see it.
