GodNES - The Beast with a Thousand Backs

OOC:

This is my general plan for Timeline/Stories concerning Thwapp so far.

1) Time Starts. Sun Appears. Order Occurs. Thwapp is confused.
-Solonus vs Borog Happens Here-
2) Thwapp gets kicked out of the Museum by the Curator, Finds Ceradus, Takes Ceradus along for wacky adventures (If you refuse to cooperate, I'll spend a PP to take you along :3)
-Borog Notices Start of Time Here-
3) First Rain leads to Thwapp pullings a shocking prank on Artharax. (Possible Fight, Possible links with Iggy's Story)
-Blight Created-
4) War for Life Part 1: Thwapp is enjoying getting Ceradus drunk when everything starts dying. Talk with Primanus/Tsamnir/Artharax, but gets bored and leaves before the meeting/fight finishes.
5) War for Life Part 2: Thwapp is bored. Which is pretty dangerous. He starts messing around with Life as the other three gods are still talking/fighting. Creations: "Land Coral", "Blighteater", "Drunk Fruit" and "Rainbow Blight".

Other stuff: One-sided snowball fight with Kylmyys, Messing around with Merphous' Perfect Playground, Pretending that he stole another one of the Curator's books, Manipulating Gravity for the lulz, using static electricity for physical comedy.

I'd like to know approval/disapproval/ideas. Going to write story 1 and probably story 2 tonight, so I'd like to hear from Seon (The Curator) and Ophorian (Ceradus.)

@Angst: can I become, eventually, the Embodiment of Life and Death? Or am I stuck as just Life?

Deity: Primanus
Player: Milarqui
Embodiment: Life
Might/Realm/Patronage: 2/2/0

Action 1
Cost: 2
Protect life from the Blight, modifying it to make it part of the food chain.
Spoiler :
I became sad and angry when the newcomer, Artharax, claimed dominion over me and the lands I had worked so hard to ensure they would be flowing with life. Artharax claimed that Life was to bend to Order, for Life was only Chaos. It was this that made me laugh and curse at him, for he knew nothing about Life. Life was not Chaos, as Artharax claimed. True, there was chaos to Life, for it reproduced and expanded endlessly. But there was also order to Life. Every being followed the Laws of Life. To be born, to grow, to reproduce, to die. Those four were the First Laws of Life.

And there were more. More Laws of Life. One being the Law of Changes*. If a being reproduced and a change happened in their life essence**, then the change would only persist if it benefitted them. If it was something that made it die easier, then it would die, and the change would cease. If it was something innocuous, then it would depend on how much it affected everything else. But, if it was good, if it made them greater, then it was something that prospered, and more beings would have the same changes.

But Artharax never saw this. Never saw the Law and the Order that exist in Life. He only saw Chaos. And he was willing to destroy what I had so carefully worked to create.

However, he had made a mistake. He sought to cause damage to me by means of something that was alive. Poor fool. Did he not know that all Life answered to me? Did he not know that Life can change to protect itself from dying?

I knew how to act. It was simple and easy.

When Artharax sent his creation, I was ready to ensure that mine would survive.

It would be but a matter of ensuring that the Blight became a part of nature. Perhaps it could be used to soften the power of the poison expelled by the fungi, to turn it into the method of reproduction for them. Maybe the Blight could become another organism, reproducing in a more ordered manner. Or maybe the fungi could just be poisonous enough to the Blight that it would die upon entering them.

So many possibilities... and introduced by the one that thought would be killing my creation...

*Theory of Evolution
**DNA

Action 2
Cost: 2
Introduce the world to flying insects that will be able to pollinate flowers far more efficiently.
Spoiler :
My previous attempts to create a flying being had been unsuccessful. However, the worms that had appeared were a potential good source from which I could work.

For this, I would probably have to force things a bit towards the intended path, but it would not be too difficult. It was just a matter of influencing the changes that were needed.

As soon as I found the part of the worm's life essence that could be changed to create the wings, I potentiated it. I made it likelier for the change to happen. I ensured that the changes that led towards that development became more probable. That they became a benefit for them. That their descendants would be likelier to have bigger wings, until there were enough of them to let go, and see how things changed on their own.

Beauty before my eyes, as they take flight and change everything.

Hehe, winged worms... something straight out of Spore.

OOC: Half asleep... cannot make something better...

OOC: I've got a story detailing the start of time coming up, so there will be some back story there. And yeah, Terrance, I'm totally open for your stories. I'll be on #NES tonight after class (maybe three-ish hours), so we can chat).

I would suspect not, Milarqui, as Zaephta (Nivyi's God) is already slated to be the God of Death and Gateways. However, I'm sure that lord_joakim could talk about ways for gods to expand their portfolios.

looks interesting to me Terrance. I'm curious to see what the tie in with the Borog thing is. :p

So you want to know what it was like before time? Well, technically, it wasn’t before time. Since there can’t be a time before time started. Although it would be before time if you think of time as an event which is still ongoing, and the time before time is the event which happened before time the event started. So that timey time time thing would be the time before time in the timish timey time time manner. Or something like that. It’s all very confusing.

I think the best way to describe it is like this.

In the first eon, something happens. And something else happens. And another thing happens. And while the first eon was still there, these events were understandable.

During the following eons, something happens. THEN something else happens. THEN another thing happens.

After the second eon begun, of course, all the events of the first eon became an incomprehensible jumble. Not that I have a good memory in the first place!

Or I can say it this way. In the first eon, there’s a giant pit. There’s also Borog digging a pit. There’s also Thwapp digging a pit. There’s also Borog and Thwapp digging a pit together. There’s also no pit. And all these events are all as real as can be at once.

In the second eon, time exists. Now there’s no pit. THEN Borog is digging a pit. THEN Thwapp is digging a pit with Borog. THEN Thwapp is digging a pit. THEN there is a pit. And these events occur after each other.

Or something. You should find the Curator, he has a much better handle on things. The bore he was, he probably just studied very hard to not forget. Ha!

And another thing! In the first eon, things stay where you put them. Say, if I put a mountain here, it won’t collapse when I come back again. If I throw a piece a rock at Tsamnir, you bet it stays flying until it smacks the bore in the face. Ha! And he deserves it! His face needs more rock on it to be balanced!

Now there is this “Gravity” and “Electricity” and what have you. And now we’re all attracted to each other. Ewwww. No homo. I bet Artharax is homo, he’s attracted to everybody.

Now if I throw a rock at Tsamnir, it hits the ground long before it hits him. What’s the point of that? Now I have to throw a rock ABOVE Tsamnir. Although this certainly makes things interesting, it’s very confusing to me. I don’t suddenly fly at Tsamnir if I don’t push away from him.

Oh, and stick your arm out. *zap* HAHA the look on your face! Wait! Don’t run! Alright I’m sorry, jeez. I want to finish telling this story before I forget it.

Ok, that’s “electricity” or some bull like that. Artharax thinks himself so cool, sparkling and waving around his red oversized “attractive” lighting bolt. Then again, I’m not sure it works the way he wanted it to be. If it did, Borog and Solonus would be best buds, Primanus and Zaephta would be stuck next to each other. Opposites attract, indeed!

Hey look, the sun’s setting. Back in the First Eon, the sun never set. Well, I guess it never rose either. Like everything, it simply WAS. Look up. The entire sky from horizon to horizon, and the horizons beyond that, was all engulfed by the sun. Can you believe that once, there was no shadows? Everything above the ground was the Sun, but all the land underneath Afaja’s shell was darkness. I was born there, where the first rays of light and the first motes of darkness clashed at the edge of chaos.

Nowadays, the Sun sets in a regular fashion, brining night and shadow. But it always returns. It sets and rises because Solonus and Borog fought over the world when time begun, and the Sun was untamed and unguarded. It was a stalemate, although Solonus would tell you he won. Hell, how can he win if half the world isn’t lit? He needs to rest every night, I’m sure. I have a pair of his dirty underclothes right here. Probably too proud to change in front of the rest of us, haha!

And there used to be a moon too. But that’s a story for another time, if I remember it, that is.

Now leave before I get bored!

EDIT: As a conjecture.

The Dull One seeking to keep all from changing Curator

The Shifting One creating the seeds of future growth Primanus

The Two-Faced One wishing for all to be equal Tsamnir

The Cowardly One dreaming of when it no longer must hide Ceradus

The Unceasing One refusing to ever yield Borog

The Arrogant One believing he should be seen by all Solonus

The Self-Righteous One demanding all bend to him Artharax

All but the Pestering One whose mind could not focus to hold a goal feed this pool and soon it shall take shape. Thwapp

Soon

Not sure of Ceradus/Borog.

Switch Ceradus and Borog around yes. Time is unceasing moving ever forward, and one of Borog's aspects is fear. Meanwhile the sleeping god of mine feeds and grows stronger on the lust for dominion over the world flowing into the void from the younger gods.

Everything happened all at once, and yet, nothing was happening at all. Beings sprung into existence, and yet they did not. These beginning moments, this opening of the aeons, was marked by temporal chaos and strife. It was amidst the tortured chaos of those first moments that Ceradus arose, brought into existence by the vast multitude of paradoxes, inconsistencies, contradictions and errors that existed amongst the Primordial Ones.

Ceradus then slithered forth from the great void, the aether itself, and hissed a terrible hiss. Brought forth from the sheer chaos of the first aeon, the God of Time endured the pain of non-time.

As Ceradus slithered through the shattered lands, he saw the trickster god dance around. Ceradus paid him no heed.

In the shadows of the land, Borog dwelt, and Ceradus paid him no heed.

Primanus’ creations sprung up around the forests as the God of Time traveled past. Ceradus paid him no heed.

Tsamnir knew all in his domain, but as Ceradus passed, neither acknowledged the other.

Ceradus approached the Spine of Afaja, and hissed a terrible hiss. That was not a place to venture.

Having travelled past the lands of the gods, Ceradus deigned to create a domain of his own, and fighting through the unyielding pain, Ceradus concentrated.

Nothing happened.

But as the pain intensified, both Ceradus and the earth began to shake. The shaking became tremors, and soon the earth was rising in some places, and falling in others. The jagged landscape became more jagged still, but the pain did not cease. Ceradus’ concentration had faltered, and all he could do was writhe in agony. There was no respite from the pain, and in a moment of sheer terror, Ceradus realized that without time, the pain would be non-existent, and yet, never cease. Ceradus let out a great scream, an otherworldly shriek of pain and fury.

The pain vanished. And the clocks all ticked one tick. One sweet, glorious tick. Time moved forward.

The jagged landscape continued to form, rising higher and higher, fuelled by the raw might of the God of Time. Ceradus coiled along the highest peak, moving ever upward, and at the top, he breathed in a tranquil, painless breath. But something else had changed, something had replaced the pain. Ceradus could see, nay, sense the tumult caused by his act. His will had drastically changed the landscape, and where things and non-events all happened in simultaneity, things were ordered and linear and sequential.

From his high peak, Ceradus could see all. From the rise of the First Sun to the fabled War of Twilight, from Thwapp’s chaotic mischief to Artharax’s imposition of order and universal law, Ceradus’ sight was far-reaching. The activities of the gods were known to him, save one. The Curator, in his audacity, had preserved the timeless chaos of the First Aeon within his realm, and Ceradus knew that he would never venture there, for lack of will and ability.

“That fool,” Ceradus thought to himself. “his hubris knows no bounds.”

Ceradus turned his thoughts from the Caretaker of Memories. That would be a problem for another time. The pain of the First Aeon lingered in Ceradus’ body, and for now, he would rest.

The clock ticked.

OOC: It's been quite a long time since I've written anything creatively, so try not to be too harsh. xD Constructive criticism is definitely appreciated. Also, I've never really written in first person, so I'm just sticking with what I know (kind of).

I'm actually a bit confused about Malek Bal. Is he a patron of those who wish to dominate, or does he wish do dominate things himself?

Cool story Ophorian, I like your depiction of Ceradus' reasons for starting time. Also, you used the word 'hubris' twice in quick succession, so you might want to swap that word out for something else.

Both. His portfolio is dominion (rulership, control, domination and so forth), and so by his nature he (when he awakens into manifest divinity ofc) seeks domination over existence as part of a divine imperative to restore the unity of the beginning under one ruler (ergo he seeks the establishment of perfect harmony [not stasis] under himself, with the other gods subjected to his will and dominion [he doesn't seek destruction, but domination as per his nature]) but he also patronises those who seek power and dominion (over others and things) as well. That should make things interesting for the other gods, since he is very likely to be willing to assist their bids for power where said bids are in concord with his own inscrutable plan.

Woooooops. Editing that out. I really need to proofread more closely.

Such inferior poems
against form and meter both
improvement will come. :p

Nice Haiku monsieur Berubeg, But yes, the awakening of Malek Bal is near at hand, his coming is inevitable.

Jarquin

Embodiment: Luck, Chance, Fate, Prophecy
Player: Arrow Gamer
Description: Jarquin is a shapeshifter, with nearly no bounds on what he can assume, ranging from a massive giant to an ant. However, his favored form is that of a slim, teenage boy, with chestnut curls and golden eyes.

Although fate and change seem a strange juxtaposition, they are in fact deeply intertwined. Death is often preordained, yes, but all else is constantly changing with the actions of the subject and others. While a prophecy will always come true, its exact meaning is often vague and may not even be known without careful examination, and often has hundreds of possible fulfillment.

Seen as a trickster, Jarquin often presents that facade, but is in fact quite serious when something of import arises. He does not involve himself in the conflicts of the gods as a general rule, as he does not know their outcome, but can be swayed to throw the dice.

Oh shoot orders.

Action 1: (2 points) Modify the museum further. Sever it not only from time, but also space. Dimensions and size mean little within the confines of the museum.

Action 2: (2 points) Sever out aspects of the Curator to create the Custodians, the Curator's servants. They are amorphous beings who can take whatever forms they desire, and will carry out the Curator's will in the Present.

@Arrow Gamer. You aren't in the game yet. Lord Joakim merely informed you that you will be born next turn. You have a choice to determine your initial starting position (your home base) and the manner in which you enter this world.

See first turn submissions at the very beginning of this NES.
