Another actor thread, to honor the city-state of Thespia :)

My own suggestions:

Good

Jake Gyllenhaal seems to be doing fine.

Bad

Batfleck
Anyone in the Ocean's eleven/etc cast

Downright horrible

Most of the Tarantino-casted people. D is silent wins the cake, though :\

I don't like Colin Farrell with a passion. He basically lets his eyebrows act and leans back content with looking confused.
Since I watched "Secret Window" I also can't stand Johnny Depp.

In general I find that the trouble with actors is that many just get into a certain routine of how to act. You know, a certain facial movement, a certain gesture or way of handling themselves. And once you discovered it, immersion goes downhill.

Though the alternative must not be matter, by no means. To experiment and really try can quickly backfire. For instance - that is what I think Nicolas Cage did. That is why theater often seems to lay it on thick. Better be safe and stick to your routine, unless you really know what you are doing...

A few film actors & actresses that I like:
Tony Leung
Joaquin Phoenix
Michael Sheen
Laura Linney
Maggie Cheung
Tilda Swinton

If you've seen Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas, you'll have to admit that Depp is a good actor! Even though he often seems to not be using that talent.

N. Cage, I can't stand the man's sour expression. Also, I've never seen him act well, so I just can't understand his fame. The same is with Jack Nicholson. He's always an insufferable douche in movies, and one begins to wonder if that is because he's one in real life too.

EDIT: And yeah, Charlie Sheen is a weird case too, the man has zero charisma, but he's very succesful still.

Nope. I never liked N. Cage.

Another I didn't like was Charles Bronson.

Though he's good in this.

Link to video.

Or, at least, well cast.

Still, spaghetti westerns aren't noted for showcasing acting talent.

Well, he's Francis Ford Coppola's nephew.

It's not what you know, it's who you know, etc. etc.

I'm a big fan of Daniel Day Lewis, Ed Norton, and Paul Giamatti myself.

Good choices :)

They have been in bad roles too, though. As for DDL, personally i did not like the Gangs of New York movie. Too gore-centric.

Gangs of New York wasn't great overall, but every scene that DDL was in was great, because he forced greatness upon them.

It's alomst too easy to pick on Keanu Reeves, but frankly, calling him wooden is an insult to trees. Of course, he was perfect in Bill and Ted, but that was because he couldn't act, not despite it....

There's a whole group of people I think of as "movie stars" rather than "actors", which for me puts their performances in a better context. Hugh Jackman, Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson, Jack Black, just to name 3 that I enjoy. Some movie stars will have a good acting performance here and there. Will Smith has had a few really good performances, for example, but seems content to be a movie star most of the time. Reese Witherspoon was a movie star for a long time, but lately seems to have decided she wants to be an actress.

Am I the only person not at all interested in actors to the point that barely know any?
