GR23 - AWDG vs 30 Civs

EDIT Well I see that M60 did play so I will redo the save.

Here is the modified 1400 AD save. Culture victory no longer shows in the victory status screen.

Important!
Perhaps all of you should take a look at this save and make sure nothing weird has happened to it during the editing process.
I'm not nearly familiar enough with this particular game to do that.

I will post a scenario file with culture set to 180K in the next post.

Here is a new scenario file for next time.
I set the culture needed to win to 180K as requested.
I also took the liberty of raising the single city value from 20000 to 25000.
It probably wasn't needed, but I figured what the heck.

great news and great job on Kyoto :goodjob:

When we take it, we should not abandon it later on but come back at a latter stage as it has Smiths, which will help our coffers a lot.

Matt_G, will test the save and let you know whether everything is fine, anyway, thanks for the great work :goodjob:

Fine work. :goodjob:

The Japanese have done a typical AI job of developing Kyoto. So much for the metro menace.

It looks as though we'll attack Kyoto on the fifth or sixth turn of the next round, allowing some time for healing. During the wait the army already next to Kyoto should move at least three tiles away from the city, so the Japanese aren't provoked to rush units there.

We're down to six settlers. Shutting down the settler pipeline just because there were a few turns when we couldn't use them was a mistake, as experience should have told us. We do have a lot of corrupt towns close to completing trebuchets, and most of those builds should be changed to settlers.

Matt, thanks a lot for this extra work. :thanx:

Unfortunately not--Kyoto's other Wonder is Shakespeare. Smith is in Nagoya, which we can probably arrange to keep, of course.

Matt's corrected save looks fine to me, on a quick examination.

Yes Matt, thanks bunches for fixing the map and the new scenario. You have saved the day :D

vxma, make sure you get the right save! 1400 AD and no cultural values on victory screen.

BTW, our large number of settlers is already down to 6! I think we may want to start to build up numbers of settlers unless we want to keep all cities. We will likely expand very fast with Steam and Cavalry (once we get some Armies).

Problem with the scenario file. The screen that allows one to choose Continents, Huge, etc doesn't come up. Also the scenario picture looks all water.

I am guessing the scenario got saved with an all water default map?

You get a message about not being able to place sufficient start locations.

1400AD- Knight army finally finds Kyoto and pillages a horse to boot. :band: Pop 8 with musket showing.

So much for the doom and gloom about a 22.5 point defender

One question, have you seen an AI Cavalry yet? I did a quick search and no one has mentioned it in their reports. Wouldn't it be funny if you took the GL and didn't pop MT :D

No cavalry spotted. I also failed to mention we no longer have a prebuild going for the MA. But we do have a nice colleseum.

IL had a palace prebuild off in the wilderness as part of his forestry work mentioned in the log. I'd suggest it's best if we stick with palace prebuilds for wonders, it's what the team is used to working with.

I also did crank up settler builds in frontier towns and moved over some treb production to settlers as well, but agree we can shift more. More workers wouldn't hurt either.

Hmmm, not sure what happened there. This one is fixed.

Looked at save. My idea was not to fight at Korea, but focus to Japan.
I reccomend retreat at Korea at 7 Armies line.
I am affraid, that 3 Knights Army may be not enough to take Kyoto. I thought that 10-12 knights and 1-2 Legioners Armies also come to support. Meanwhile it is resonable to cut roads connecting Kyoto. AIs hire Clowns only and City may strave. Japan at Democracy and will suffer WW.
New Matt's file work OK.

I have down loaded the second save, the one fixed. On the settlers, I thought we had
agree to not shut them off in the first place, oh well.

Now let me see if I know what is going on:

Want to grab GLB and get tech and then what? Do we abandon it after sell off or let them retake after sell off and then raze it for slaves? Should I give them a few turns to get MT or just go?

I would not be surprised to find no one on our land has MT and maybe not anyone period
as they may well have bypassed for now.

I am not sure I followed the prebuild in the wilderness. If a chop was done, it cannot be used for wonders. So I need to either find a good build or start from scratch. Do we think it is worth a leader, if no build faster than say 20 turns? Well that presumes I get a leader.

Glad the culture was settled as I could not see having an empire the size of the Byz sitting on us for the whole game. They would soon be a real problem with cavs and infantry.

So I will sit on this till I see some feedback, if nothing in a few hours I will plow ahead.

Just go. This is a great opportunity and we don't want to be oversubtle about it. Once we have our rail net up we can hardly lose.

It's a delicate question whether we should wait to let the armies heal, which would normally be an automatic step, but might in this case give the Japanese time to get riflemen deployed. Whatever you choose is fine.

Taking Kyoto twice and razing the second time would only gain us three slaves, which would then slow a knight army down to one tile a turn as it protected them. That's too great a waste of time for too little benefit, so don't bother.

The problem with using a Leader for the Academy is that we want it in a core city, and we can't afford to send a Leader on a long trip from the front to our homeland during which we couldn't generate other Leaders. So although it's a close call, since we do want the boost to the strength of our armies, I'd say that we should start pre-building again. If we find that all the cities we need to take are held by riflemen we can reconsider our decision.

Let me explain: To drive forest in the City with barracks I set Palace in nearby City.
Since we can't have two palaces "prebuild" I set Coloseum "for a while". I wrote about that in TL, but sure, better was to swich to Palce back. We may start "prebuild" again, but if we will gain a leader better to make MA in Rome, because it have more spt.

Kyoto may be a nut, but as Theodora already Industrial she most probably have Nationalism. So if 3 Armies arrive to Kyoto with Riflemen I'd not risk an attack.

Agree with NP. I think it more likely Japan will get Nationalism before Mil Trad. They both have units, but I think there is a bonus for the ability to conscript units making Nationalism more probable.

Is 3 Knight Armies all we have? It may be worth sending any we do (I am pretty sure it isn't 10-12 :D ) and maybe a legion army simply for cover It would get there late but we may have to heal up anyway and may be there soon enough.

For the Mil Academy, the town with the best shields long term should build it at this point. If this is the capitol I am unsure if it better to wait to start it or just build it in the second best city - chances may be high that we will have to fight Rifles in which case the bonus while attacking would really help. It is nice to be able to create Armies in the latter part of the game however, so it should have pretty high shields.

It might not hurt to send a force of Artillery under a Legion army if we have Artillery and Legion army to spare. It would be a backup plan if the city gets sufficient rifles. Start moving them now and they will be in place sooner if they are needed. Of course we may need all our artillery in which case I would skip it until needed.

Agree with NP and Greebly, we need better preparation for Kyoto. Sure, spare artiliry should go there. I'd raze Noridge to have access faster. I'd also close Korea / Byzantia front not to spread forses. M60 mistake was that he tried at both direction and got in Japan "partial" success.
Not sure about research: I'd uprade catapults and use cash to have more knights
