Gr7 - AWM vs 30 civs on a giant map

1. Raise the tech rate to 750 to offset the effect of 11 additional AI civs over and above Lee's WM.

I need to know how many land tiles on the WM and how many land tiles for the proposed map to comment on this. The totally land volume also has an effect.

lurker's comment: I don't know if I understand this correctly, but raising the tech rate makes it more difficult to reearch, right? So all the AI's will be trading while you are struggling self-research. I guess trading at the beginning of turns would help a little bit.

It will be interesting to see what civ you guys pick. I kinda like Rome here. MIL - good for AW. COM - good for big empires. Legion - Good for surviving the AA, but bad upgrading.

With the limit of 512 cities, it will barley have enough for all civs to have 16 cities.

I am not sure I want to raise the tech that much over Lee's map. I don't see more civs making that big a difference.

I am not sure on the numbers, but a slight increase (600 seems best).

Edit: Maybe 650

BTW what is the number for Huge maps?

After thinking about it I tend to agree with your 600 or 650 numbers Greebley.
I will get the info on the tiles for Lee and the number for huge maps posted when I get home. (About 3 hours)

vmxa is correct.

Just some stats for reference from conquests.biq:
Standard map (100X100) Tech rate is 240, OCN is 20
Large map (130X130) Tech rate is 320, OCN is 28
Huge map (160X160) Tech rate is 400, OCN is 36.

Lee
Your WM is 26112 tiles total. 6635 of those are land, and 2809 are coastal.

A 250X250 map is 31250 tiles.
I generated 3 random starts to get an average for the number of tiles.
These numbers are for a 70% water and continents map.

Avg land tiles: 8279
Avg coastal tiles: 1776

Edit- 600 sounds OK to me. What do you think Lee after seeing the numbers above?

What about the ship movement Greebley? Does going with Lee's numbers sound good to you?

600 may be a little light. This assumes the OCN stays the same as my world map at 28. If we go with a higher OCN we need to up the tech rate a little.

Just pulled the naval movement numbers from Lee's biq. I want to make sure we all are on the same page. Part way thru a game this size is not the time for surprises.

Format is standard game moves first, LK's moves next and then the rate of change() will be the last number.

Unit:
Curragh - 2 - 2 no change
Galley - 3 - 3 no change
Dromon - 3 - 3 no change
Carrack - 4 - 5 (+1)
Caravel - 4 - 5 (+1)
Galleon - 4 - 5 (+1)
Frigate - 5 - 6 (+1)
Man-O-War - 5 - 6 (+1)
Privateer - 5 - 7 (+2)
Ironclad - 3 - 5 (+2)
Destroyer - 8 - 9 (+1)
Cruiser - 6 - 7 (+1)
Battleship - 5 - 7 (+2)
Carrier - 7 - 7 no change
Transport - 6 - 7 (+1)
Submarine - 4 - 5 (+1)
Nuclear Sub - 5 - 7 (+2)
Aegis Cruiser - 7 - 9 (+2)

Movement looks good to me.

If 600 seems light, then why don't we go with 650? This seems very reasonable to me.

Edit: I am not sure on the OCN issue. We will probably have less cities per civ rather than more. Do we want to raise it anyway? My gut feeling is no.

We are also going to hit the hard limit of 512? cities maximum. That is an average of 16 cities per civ. Not sure what that means in terms of where the OCN should be.

We are not going to have many more total cities than in Lee's map because of this limit.

I agree.
Tech rate 650, leave OCN at 28, and go with Lee's naval movement numbers.

I'll get it done and posted for you tonight. :)

looking very good, agree with naval movements as well

can't wait to start this one

Biq is attached.

Here is what was changed.
1) Naval movements as outlined in previous posts.
2) Tech Rate to 650. (for all map sizes)
3) OCN is at 28. (for all map sizes)
4) Changed scenario properties to allow all 31 civs.
5) Changed size of huge map to 250X250.

That's it.

Greebley, I'm sure you know all this but I will outline it anyways in case some lurkers want to use this biq as well.

Unzip the biq to your .../CivilazationIII/Conquests/Scenarios directory.
Start game by choosing Civ-Content on startup screen. Find the GR7 (250X250) entry and proceed from there.

One catch. You must choose a "huge" world to get a 250X250 map.
That is the only one I changed the size on. If you choose say standard, you will get a standard 100X100 map.
As I said above, I did change the OCN and Tech Rate for all world sizes due to the world size bug.

May the map generator smile on us. :)

Check out what I got for the first start. It has the capacity for +9 food in the capitol during despot. I have noticed you can get bigger clusters of resources on these large maps.

I wanted to check with the team to see if we felt this start was too good. My gut feeling is to go with this start as we would have also kept sub-optimal one - it is all luck of the draw.

Go for it. Like you said, it's the luck of the draw. We got lucky foodwise.
Besides, fighting 30 civs, we can use all the help the game gives us.

Greebley - if the last spot is still open, I'd like to join.

Edit - Arathorn played a max civ AW game. You need to figure you'll have several neighbors so think accordingly.

nice start, since there is a 512 city limit, this will help us initially to expand and get as many cities as possible.

No objection from my side. Let's start that one and see how it turns out. Looks good.
