GR12 - AWM vs 30 civs, Pangea

Ok, i got it I will try to get at least a peek in tonight and then turn to tomorrow.

I guess the only directive is to get tiles annexed by hook or crook. So culture needed in some places.
 
I checked the save (with mapstat) and Ottoman's are down to 3 cities, yet have 7500gold. We MUST grab that money, every city worth 2.5k!

The Celts are the ones to watch out with 66 cities, they are a force to reckon. The are the culture monsters as well making more than 1k culture a turn. We got to be careful about that. I would leave France alone for now and try to get after the Celts first.

The total number of cities is merely 503, hey we can found a lot of new cities to fill gaps.
 
I had noticed that we were not founding cities as fast as we are razing them. I also wondered why we were after India and France right now and planned to stop that.

Otto then Rome and Celts to get the cash and then crimp the Celts. They have about 50K culture. We should not have a problem with it as we will cut the amount they will generate way down once we start hitting them.
 
Have we found the injuns yet, btw ?
 
It is kind of a race on the Ottomans and their gold. Gandhi razed one of Otto's cities last IBT. I could get Ankara and Aydin then.
 
Just a little heads up for anyone checking in. I am not sure if I will finish this turn today and how many turns I will play. I think I am on the 5th now.

Anyway I finally got around to the Ottoman this turn and got all their money. Next to the last town was 1907 and the last was 5722. I had hit them earlier for 1395 and now have about 15k+.
 
you can spend some of that money to speep up temples so we can go back to scientists to stay at 4 turn research.
We can also part cash rush factories and of course cavalry. Nice to see so much money, who is next in line with all the gold?

Factories for me, temples can go on their merry way. We'll get the scientists eventually.
 
I am going to look around tomorrow to see what rushes can be done. We will be unable to get to 4 turns as it is 11555 beakers and we need about 180 more scientist to do it.

Only the French have any money about a few hundred. They have about
2900. With them having lots of cities and all behind the Indians, I doubt I will make any rush at them right now.

I have killed all but 20 of the Celt cavs, but only razed one town. They will probably be on the menu next or the Romans. Which everone if nearest, but I want to go on the Celts the most.

I will have to see if any cities can use a factory as the last I looked we had nothing making more than the high teens in net shields, that does not alread have one.

It is a bugger to find towns that have expanded so I know I missed some, but I have scrapped about 30 temples so far.
 
You might want to use F5 for that, look up culture ratings above 10 that have a temple and if there's nothing to be gained, zoom and scrap. That's probably going to save you some time.
 
Sounds good, I thought I remembered an alert for expansion in Mapstat, but I have not used it in sometime.

Anyway just a clarification on research. I stopped after I posted for the night as I was too sleepy. I originally ran the slider up till it went negative. I then figured I would come back at the end of the turn and see what I needed to drop it another click.

When I came back I saw that 183 scientist was needed and figured that was not going to happen. After I sat down, I realized I had only set the slider to 80%. So after I come back from the cluhouse I will slap myslef and crank it up to 90 and see what, if anything is needed to get to 4 turns.

I have not planted all the towns I could as I did not have enough to defended them all, but that should change this turn. The French have not sent any cavs in awhile and I have the Celts down to 22.

Without cavs, they cannot hit even a new town on the IT. India manages to send out a couple of cavs, but that is not enough to take down a new town.

I was concerned while the Celts where sending 20-30 or more each round, that won't be the case from now on.

BTW the Ottoman capitol had a hospital. Not a shock, but metros will slow things as the distance to new cities is too great to wait on arties. At least it did not get enough citizen to be a metro.
 
Well I could not get it down to 4 turns. Maybe with some real sacrifices. Here is the deal. We make only 2590bpt at 100% -299 gold or something. At that level we need to get to about 100 more scientist. We only had 126 gold in taxmen, so that is 63 roughtly. We would need another 40 and those would have to come from either engineers or working pop.

Since we were seemed to not be in a hurry for tanks, why bother?
 
Pre:
If I have read the techs correctly, always a big if, no one has RP at this time. So we do not have to run down any rubber sources, yet.

No mention of any landings or incursions, so I guess I do not have to deal with that for now.

I was going to switch to Refine to see where the oil is located, but we need an additional 87 scientist to cut it to 4 turns, so I stay with Steel. We may be able to get closer to the nearly 2900bpt by the time we finish Steel. Nothing to lose by waiting. I will switch some beakerheads to taxmen to trim the overrun and lower the deficit. May as well save some cash.

I switch the beakerhead to a joker in Hovd to see if that will quicken the pacification. To tell you the truth I am not sure if it matters, but not a big cost.

Flip a bunch of scientist to take 50gpt off the deficit.
Find a frigate off of Sabratha, not sure what is intended to do. We do not really need to have one there as far as I can tell.

Sabratha is making yet anoher Frigate at 60 turns? I am stone against that sort of thing. Frigates are not going to do much, unless we invade and they can cover the ships.

By the time we could consider that we will be able to make destroyers. I switch to a settler for now. So late in the game, I prefer to have them build nothing. I would sell off the harbor and question why we still have it. I leave it for others to decide though.

Pi-Ramesses switched to settler, just no point in a cav at 80 turns here.
I leave Theveste as it may be useful to switch to a naval build later, otherwise we should get rid of the harbor.

Laguna Beach making an aqua at 1spt with 70 to go? Why would that make sense? If we have 70 turns left, we still do not need to spend them making an aqua. I would rather have wealth for the 70 turns. Switch to settler.

Rubberton making aqua with 77 turns to go, it is size 4 and no growth. I leave it and will try to get workers there to chop it otherwise what is the point?

We need about 2200 more tiles, IOW we are 2/3 of the way there. Too far for me to try to count tiles and see where I should plant towns or slam in temples. I was checking as I saw a number of tiles in our land that were surrounded by towns without temples, I am not going to built temples to gain 3 tiles for areas that already are inside our borders. Places like Piquant. Maybe later when we have a better count.

Gross is size 1 making a cav and +1 food on all mountians and hills. I put the pop to taxman and shut it down. It could not even feed a second pop.

New Alaca Huyuk switch to temple. Same for Bomb run 1 and 2. W-NW Korea too and New Alisar. New Yalburt to temple.

That is about all I see in my perusal. I wonder why we are heading into the Indian lands, I though we want the cash from the Ottoman? I intend to avoid as much of the jungle as I can for now. It can wait. I want the Ottoman and the Romans and to leave those that are fighting the Celts to their fun for now.

Wow a stack of 30 units (arties and workers) is sitting all alone with rails leading right to it? I moved an infantry to cover. I think we have a lot of workers exposed as it is very hard to figure out all of the paths a cav can travel using rails in neutral lands to get there.

IBT:
Dam I missed one stack of workers that had a cat. Just in case no one has had it before in this game, we did get pollution.

1848AD:
We only made 3 cavs and 1 inf and 2 settlers this turn. Expansion of borders goes by too fast to note the names and the map is so big it is not easy to find them. I find one and sell temple. Will keep an eye out for others, but not check all towns.

Rename armies to make it easier to locate, I hope. All missing numbers used 1-46. We have 3 MDI, 11 Knight and 32 Cavs. Cavs are 17th through 46nd.

Move a pike to volcano near Nara to allow sight of tiles not in our borders. Prevent any surprise landings our barb camps. Managing workers is very tricky as I have no continuity. So I am not aware of the places that are most in need of a road/rail/irrigation.

My priority is:
Rails to connect towns, without exposure.
Chop a few tiles, not going to commit all we have though.
Rail coast to allow arties to get to any ships or landings.
Bump growth where it is stopped.
Road any tile that have none.
Until we have towns that can reach new towns to capture/raze I won't rail toward any civs. It would require too many armies to cover the workers and rails in neutral lands are dangerous for us. I would rather the armies get there later.

Not sure why we are clearing bomb damage though?

Capture Sinop sell bank/market and barracks. Kill two reg rifles (2-0). Korea has two towns left, both island towns. Will go for the capitol of Evora next turn. Liberated 108 gold.

I stopped counting after going 2 for 21 on cats/trebs. I think we should disband all cats and upgrade or disband the trebs. They just suck at this point. We do not have to be concerned with them being free support as we are some 500+ units under our cap and will never pay for unit support again.

Ecav kills Fr C (3-0). Ecav kills Indian C (4-0).
Sold off 21 more temples. Found at least four stacks of cats/trebs forted in our rear.

Sell another temple. Disband some cats/trebs to rush 2 temples. Upgrade some cannons as I found another stack with 22 trebs/cannons. Redline all units in reach including a bunch of ships. Deficit down to 77gpt from iirc 180.

Kill 22 Celt cavs (26-0).
Kill 4 Korean units (30-0).
Kill 1 Fr unit (31-0).
Kill 2 Indian cavs (33-0).
Found a bank in Seoul and sold it. Move a couple of spears to Hovd to try to pacify the town.
Placed a few pikes in spots to clear fog. Scrapped the archer to get another temple done in the front. I want to close off access to those neutral rails as cavs made it deep into the land and it is too hard to cover all the paths.

Capture cat will scrap next turn. [33-0]

Sagres sell market and court it is size 1, no growth as it is all hills/mountains.
We make 3 cavs and 2 inf, no settlers.
Kill Fr cav (1-0), it had landed at Chitza.
Capture Fr town of Toulouse (2-0), liberate 66 gold. no Fr towns near and it is size 1.

We have no settlers, so have to hold as many as we can right now. I rushed 2 settlers with trebs/cats. Sell market/bank and barracks. We get 3 workers.
Capture Dacca (indian) sell barracks (3-0). 0 gold, 1 cannon I disband it. We get 5 workers, some were non Indian. Need a road to connect.
Sink Korean Frigate to make room for a landing. (4-0)
Another misclick on artie and have to cover with infantry. Bad fingers run amok.
Find one of the 4 towns that expanded and sell temple.
May have make a mistake in attacking Otto city Deniztl as I do not have enough armies in range to take it. I hold off with the last one to allow them to a chance to survive the IT. (5-0)

Found a town forgot the name.
Kill Celt cav and found Kadesh 2 on the hill (1-0).
Kill 3 rifles in Denzli and raze it for 1395 gold (4-0). Wonder how that lone LB feels now? The unit that left to attack someone is now out in the open for someone. I razed the place as it was too far from our lines.

I move an army over to see if Uskadar is under attack, but cannot see all the tiles.

Kadesh 2 will let us reach the capitol once the armies are healed.
So far no one has found the floating empire of the Inca's. You have to admire them making an alliance with no cities.

Move army near Ismit lots of Celts there, I think they are in the procession that comes to New Kadesh. That is the were I killed had 21 cavs.

Set research to zero and still get Steel in one turn. I could not drive it down a turn due to the 4 turn crap.
Celts had 62 cavs at the end of the last turn and start this one with 60. Not sure if they just are not making any or they lost even more than they made in the IT. Either way it is good news for us.
Sink Korean frigate at Evora need to land more arties. The lone treb busted its walls though.

Wonder City gets pollution.
Found Ottoman rifle with a settler (1-0).
Raze Antalya killing 2 Celt rifles (3-0).
Kill 13 Celt unit (16-0).
Settled 2 towns.
Kill 8 Fr unit (24-0).

Kill 5 Koreans on Evora losing 2 (33-2) Sorry, but I had to use cavs vets on redlined rifles. Sunk a frigate nearby and I am sure they had several in the town, but I did not see any animation. They had bombard ech turn, so unless they left... (34-2)
Lost another cav to redline cav. Not too long ago I though I had a shot at another clean run. (34-3)

Kill 3 Byz (42-3). I know I got sleepy here and did not record all of the kills as I am sure there were at least 7 units in the stack of Fr units.

No luck at all on promotions, two vets made elite the whole time and no leader out of scores of E combats.

Ok I went around and bought a flock of temples. I then flipped the engineers in those places and a few where I rushed the aqua. Added some taxmen switched to science and we make it in 4 turns at only -205.

We need to watch some of the aqua towns as they are not currently making any extra food.
I did not look hard for factories, but did start one in Tyrana and it could probably stand a uni next. We may want to look at dropping in a few after Hoovers comes in next turn. Maybe a few places could do with a lib as well. I see Alisar Huyuk (sp) maybe able to stand a mine or two and we may have others.

I know I have forgotten to list all the towns started in this set. I have used all the settlers prior to this turn. We have made 7 settlers and about 6 cavs and several infantry, so this was our best turn. I have no escorts for the settlers and will use them next turn as most of the AI cavs are out of the game now and the AI will have trouble getting to any new towns we start.

Tweak specialist to ensure we stay on track. Each time a town expands the gov reassigns and we fall behind. I put more beakerheads to works to cover the next round, I hope.

Only running -151 right now.
Plant spy on France. They are not in good shape. 3 cavs and 1 knight and 90 rifles. They cannot send out much now. They have few cannons either.
Rome is really in bad shape with less than 30 units all totaled.
Kill 4 Celts (4-0).
Kill 5 Indian units (9-0). Well well well, finally got a leader form 47th.
Kill 2 Fr units (middle age ones) (11-0).
Kill 3 Byz knights (14-0).
Hit city limit.
Raze Endrine (celts) killing 2 rifles and an Ecav (16-0). I disband the 3 slaves as it is too far to bring them back and we are not desparate for more anyway. I know we have almost unlimited work that could be done, but I doubt anyone wants to manage even more workers.

Ok, forget that, I kept the workers, because I killed a rifle covering a worker. Then a musket and capture another worker. Now they are all in range to go home under a few damaged armies. (18-0)
Kill 5 Celts in Konya and raze it. Celts are tops in culture and we have 8 or more settlers on hand and are at the limit. I am getting no gold. (23-0)

Not sure if, we should pack up the stuff from Evora and abandon it and head off to kill of the Koreans or not. Since we have the ability to prevent any new foundings, that may be the way to go.
