Gr8 Team B The Pheonix Rising

Back! And busy. But I should be able to play when KB is done. I thought Own was next, though? I know I played after KB the last time.

Yes. Own played, then KB, then me, then Leha, then you.

Ahhh...well, I can't get to it until later this evening anyway (probably 6 hours from now), so if you want to jump on in Own, feel free. Otherwise I'll just play then.

lurkers comment:
It looks like your start was too good to make it a real "phoenix rising" ;) Maybe you have to just play normal AWD ;)

@ Obormot -- hush up, you. :p

Well, we've been really fortunate so far in just about every possible way. Our second civ met went to war with our third, and we've yet to meet a fourth at over 100 turns into the game. That left us with only England to deal with, essentially, and with our high-food start and good territory to expand into (and iron! and horses!), you couldn't really ask for more.

Still, though, in a real AW attempt I'd want to have started the GL long since. We still lack half a dozen required AA techs (not to mention Monarchy), we have next to no infrastructure or culture, Greece is already in the middle ages, and who knows what the other continent is doing? It's not necessarily going to be easy even with the ability to make peace and trade.

On that last note, though, Kaiser should probably try to get a couple of curraghs out as soon as is practical so we can get some contacts. We'll be at peace with Greece and Maya pretty soon.

Preturn- We look pretty damn good.

IT- Maya start GL.

T1 130

Fairly uneventful. A few English are killed, along with the Greek bloke.

IT- zzz

T2 110

Hannover is found up north. Armies take a turn to heal up.

IT- We learn Lit. I decide to quickly pursue CB, as having it will allow us to get more expensive techs in peace. England starts Sun Tzu.

T3 90

New Berlin founded. I move armies into a position to sack Canterbury in a couple turns.

IT- zzz

T4 70

A few units of green and orange colors are killed. Armies prepare to siege Canterbury, and a small task force heads towards the mystery greek city to the west.

IT- lots of troops move around, nothing very threatening though.

T5 50

Our sword armies kill three spears in razing Canterbury.

A few other stray units are finished.

IT- So much for exploration...the first curragh I managed to get out is killed by an English galley.

T6 30

I send an army eastward towards Oxford and kill one spear there.

We lose one sword in killing two Hoplites and an archer in razing Eretria.

IT- We learn CB, and i shut off research for a turn since we can make some peace deals next turn.

T7 10 BC

Oxford is toast. Frankfurt is founded.

IT- zzz

T8 10 AD

Well, we've survived quite well. I decide to dial up Alex for some peace as he has some Hoplites roaming through our territory that are really detracting from us being able to :hammer: England. The bastard wants 60g for peace....but I do really want him off our back, so I agree to pay it.

The Maya want all of our gold for peace, and currently pose no threat, so forget it, we can wait there. England is willing to give currency and contruction...but I'm not interested. If we can research CoL and Philo, perhaps we can get a nice discount on Republic.

I set research to Philo, due in 7.

IT- We lose another curragh to an attack.

T9 30 AD

We continue to press south and make the English less and less of a threat.

IT- Greeks start KT.

T10 50 AD

Nothing of real importance. We slaughter some English archers. Settlers en route to settle newly opened areas.

Summary

England is on the ropes. I would suggest maintaining the war with them until we have Philo and CoL. Then we can see if they have Republic. If they do, we can make peace and hopefully get it. If they don't, we can make peace for other techs, or drive them into the ground. A couple libraries have been finished in the core, I woud suggest building more. We need to get some more boats out too, as we really need all the contacts we can get now.

Our current Reich......

You have run into "New Berlin", while we are in trouble with having the FP message ... :D

Indeed :D

There is a part of me that wishes this game was playing out a bit more like yours. I hope we run into some form of a challenge....hopefully the other continent is loaded, or perhaps they have a runaway civ. Otherwise this won't be nearly as entertaining as yours is going to be.

Our empire is in great shape indeed. Good warring!

- I think it's time to start the FP. Leipzig perhaps?
- would be good to get a city near those horses, before someone else does. The food basket SW of Brandenburg is good too, and already improved for us! ;) Good area for settler/worker production.
- let's keep England alive, a weak civ with more techs than us has its purposes... perhaps make peace as soon as we get CoL by research or trade.
- western army could go for Leeds, eastern army perhaps Dover and after that Maya. We should put the thumbscrews on before they make peace with Greece. Fortunately they have some weak looking towns near us :).
- we need loads of settlers it seems, to fill in the land empties by our troops :D.

AW variant could be good, but we didn't build TGL. I agree with KB, this "survival" looks more like prosperous thriving.

Maybe now you can add more restrictions to yourselves, if you feel it becomes too easy. E.g., defiant (it's not hard at all when you are already strong, emm ...), or no optional tech (go ahead under feudalism government) ...

Defiant can surely be fun....or the Silence variant is also quite enjoyable, as demonstrated by Goz8. I'd say we institute something...this is likely to be one of the last SG's before Civ IV, might as well go out with a bang, not just another typical win.

Who is up now? Did Own do a swap or a skip?
