Great Quotes δ' : Being laconic is being philosophical

hah , once again American dudes get drown in the minutea , the whole Endor thing is about turning Luke Skywalker and let's not get lost in the idea that Palpatine was not throughly distracted .

really , one should pay attention to Vader strategically failing .

I'm a huge fan of the Star Wars-related articles all over the website. My personal favorite was the First Order AAR for Operations on Jakku.

My favorite of the various "let's ridiculously overanalyze Star Wars" articles is still the classic on the Endor Holocaust.

It is, however, marred by its inclusion of the Disney claptrap.

I mean I don't like the new movies very much either but it seems like too much work to allow mere mention of them to "mar" any Star Wars-related media I see

“Bad and damnable as work under capitalism may be, still worse is the lack of work. Like every commodity, labor power sometimes finds no buyer. The problematic liberty of the worker to choose his master goes hand in hand with the liberty of the capitalist to engage or to dismiss his workers. In the continuous development of capitalism, in the founding of new enterprises and the decline or collapse of old ones, the workers are driven to and fro, are accumulated here, dismissed there. So they must consider it good luck even, when they are allowed to let themselves be exploited. Then they perceive that they are at the mercy of capital. That only with the consent of the masters they have access to the machines that wait for their handling.”

Anton Pannekoek, Workers Councils, 1946.

"That's what's wrong with the whole escape-and-rescue thing. Getting your friends out, saving lives, all that [redacted]. That's good-guy crap."

"And you..."

"I don't care if they live through it. I don't care if I live through it."

"What do you care about?"

"I care about story. Remember what I said about story? I'm gonna teach those [redacted]-rotten rat [redacted]s a fundamental principle of real story."

"Ah?"

"When you [redacted] with the bad guy - the bad guy [redacted]s you back."

-Entertainer Hari Michaelson and Administrator Arturo Kollberg, Caine Black Knife

"Here's the thing. If you actually get offended about Doom calling Demons "Mortally Challenged," you are tacitly admitting that your whole "politically correct" ideology is just junk, and therefore easily mocked. In short, you recognized your own BS and got mad someone showed you"

well , in case this still fails in trolling the US Army and whatnot here is the tale of Barbarossa guy :

Roger Crowley said:
In the summer of 1544 Barbarossa took some six thousand captives from the coasts of Italy and the surrounding seas. On his way home the boats were so dangerously overloaded with human cargo that the crews threw hundreds of the weaker captives overboard. He entered the harbor in triumph to the firing of cannon and nighttime fires illuminating the Horn. Thousands of people gathered on the shore to witness the triumphant return of “the king of the sea.” It was to be his last great expedition. In the summer of 1546, at the age of eighty, he was carried off by a fever in his own palace in Istanbul to the universal mourning of the people. He was buried in a mausoleum on the shores of the Bosphorus that became an obligatory place of pilgrimage for all departing naval expeditions, saluted with “numerous salvoes from cannon and muskets to give him the honor due to a great saint.” After so many decades of terror, Christians could scarcely believe that “the king of evil” was gone; so great was the superstitious dread attached to his name that legend persisted he could leave his tomb and walk the earth with the undead. Apparently it took a Greek magician to fix the problem: burying a black dog in the tomb appeased the restless spirit and returned it to Hades.

Spoiler :

of course not , people in this country are so afraid of the "Papaz Büyüsü" , magic of the [Greek] priests . See , if afraid of Kemal and his zombie army , learn from History and come and teach us . If the Republic was a paper tiger , well , the Turk can only be a papiermache panther . Context ? Simple , America has given New Turkey until Wednesday to release this pastor and 14 others . Or harsher sanctions . See , so much bragging the paranthesis between Ottomans and New Turkey was closed with the destruction of the Republic . The West remembers Ottomans as weaklings who always released arrested missionaries , who like regularly deserved swinging in the wind (with inciting rebellion) . But released them all the same when told so by the West . Even to this end , apparently New Turkey history will now claim the Ottoman throne itself did not ratify the Treaty of Sevres , because the gloirous destruction of Lausanne automatically brings in the Sevres or something , which then risks the elections ... That it , the claimed Throne refusal , happened only because Kemal and his then living Army wholeheartedly agreed in the concept of West should go and sexually satisfy itself instead , does not count . When apparently New Turkey defies all comers . ı was waken up when my older brother came to dinner last week , being tired in the day , so he actually had to find the current exchange rate on the phone with a fork on the other hand . 6.8 , some 24% rise in a single day . When am accused of pushing war , it's only a secret devaluation of the Turkish Lira , because the fake economy could collapse without it , and elections are kept safe . Context is all important , so lacking the details ı can't tell what's Putin up to . One news say certain Turkish citzens will receive their entry visas in a relaxed way ? Other says the countries bordering the Caspian have agreed after 24 years that no foreign troops will be allowed into the area . Is this a call for Army of Petrol give up "advising" the Azeris ? Oh , not much to worry , dear average Americans . Your 1/8 or something White Wabbit , aka Mattis the Defence Secretary , wholeheartedly agrees withusing New Turkey as the inside guy in the coalition of Russians and Iranians and the like , with slapping New Turkey in the open . We possibly can't disband you all down to your bosons , now that we are wink wink friends and allies and strategic partners . Which we are not , by The Name Of Allah , but no one believes dat ... If nothing else happens , our shared dire straits of sanctions with Russians should turn them away from carpet bombing Idlip for the duration . Man , America loves heart eating Sunni beardies . There's nothing economically disturbing New Turkey . The Rich have almost a sexual arousal that the economy will be saved in the 2008 way , no taxes for the Rich an all the glorious things they read about in nespapers and got them envious of the 1% of the West . In case it's a reason why the money is not coming , a company that smells as Congregation dutifully declares it's selling 2 billions US dollars worth of property abroad and it won't be leeching the recovery .

"A Whig is a man who is prepared to go to the stake for his beliefs, but who will not send his opponents there. A Tory is one who will not only burn himself, but is quite prepared in the last resort to burn those who differ from him."

gotta love KR devs semi-ironically quoting Buchan

replacing "Die Wacht am Rhein" with the Siegesmarsch von Metz for the loading music was the dumbest decision they've ever made, although that'll change when they get rid of That Madman Curtis in 0.8

"As it turned out, [PO1c] Kimura [Koreo]'s was to be the last aircraft Akagi ever launched. The stage was now set for the single most decisive aerial attack in naval history."

-Jonathan Parshall and Anthony Tully, Shattered Sword: The Untold Story of the Battle of Midway, final sentences of Chapter 11

"We pardon our readers for having turned the previous page with the understandable expectation of finding Dauntlesses hurtling downward from the heavens, only to discover that a brief but necessary piece of business remains before we get to the 'exciting part'. [...] Please rest assured, however, that the bombing will commence promptly thereafter."

-Parshall and Tully, Shattered Sword, first paragraph of Chapter 12

(1) Just one God.

(2) Put nothin’ before God.

(3) Watch yer mouth.

(4) Git yourself to Sunday meeting.

(5) Honor yer Ma & Pa.

(6) No killin’.

(7) No foolin’ around with another feller’s gal.

True source unknown, I found it on reddit with the quotation marks already embedded but no author.

"I don't really know anything about bitcoin. I went on the subreddit once and everyone was congratulating each other on how smart they were and then I checked the next day and the suicide hotline was stickied."

Ah yes, the good old Dunning-Krugerands.
I miss the days they were plain old RON PAUL FUN BUX.

Well, that sure has a familiar ring to it.

"Critically, Apple also has the right business model: it can sell barely good-enough devices at a premium to a userbase that will buy simply because they are from Apple, and from there figure out a use case without the need to reach everyone."
— Ben Thompson, "The Problem with Facebook and Virtual Reality"

Just something from a fantasy novel I'm curently reading, but it seems true and relevant.

"But there are none so frightened, or so strange in their fear, as conquerors. They conjure phantoms endlessly, terrified that their victims will someday do back what was done to them – even if, in truth, their victims couldn’t care less about such pettiness and have moved on. Conquerors live in dread of the day when they are shown to be, not superior, but simply lucky."

- N.K. Jemisin, The Stone Sky

“The mind is endless. You put me in a dark solitary cell, and to you that's the end, to me it's the beginning, it's the universe in there, there's a world in there, and I'm free."
