Contested waters? I know some countries are landlocked, but rivers are made of water too.

I saw a documentary on rivers once.

Nope, nothing like that.

Why would South Sudan be different from Best Sudan?

Btw, didn't United Sudan use to be the largest country in Africa? (followed by Zaire and then Bebop Algeria).

This is very much related to countries, so any political divisions will be different.

You do point out a potential bias, in this is a mean over the time period I have, so Sudan is average of 1960 - 2017 and South Sudan is average of 2008 - 2017.

So in the scale, are Oman and Israel (orange) higher or lower than Saudi-Arabia (rose-ish)? And where does Eritrea (yellow) fit on that scale? I can't make my mind up on the obvious correct order here :)

My first thought was something about Gender or Woman's rights. But I'm less and less convinced.

The scale is viridis plasma, the 3rd one here.

Nothing to do with Gender or Woman's rights.

So apparently there is a lot more of it in the ME. Over time. Could it be food related?

Nope. But there is a lot of it in the middle east.

Is it a culture thing like wearing curled-up toed shoes?

Well, terror and bombings and various ways of killing one another are pretty common, so is it related to political unrest and things like death from the sky etc.?

Something related to Military spending per capita
Sorry meant military spending as percentage of GDP.
