Halo Mafia [Game Thread]

I was talking less about activity and more about mechanics, finish, and gameplay Tak.

I f'd up the activity, but setting that aside, I thought the game was good and a success. I learned a lot about hosting and I'm ready to come back with a better game with better hosting next time.

Speaking of next time, a teaser for my next game:
Spoiler :

This game will feature all players having a role from one of the games. All major roles from Halo 1, 2, 3, Reach, ODST, and 4 will be included. Expect the unexpected.

I certainly hope you do. The game design was decent, but you have much to learn about hosting.

I'd suggest making sure you don't host unless you actually have time to.

Well played Mergle, Black Knigh, Double A, Gone 3 the Celt. :hatsoff:

Poorly played everyone in the town (myself included).

I can't believe Takhisis almost got away with a lurker victory, and I can't believe he posted over one hundred times in the thread and still qualified as a lurker. How is that possible?

I was town. :p

It remained suspenseful for a long time Buddhafish, thanks for the game! Good job Mergle and The Black Knigh, you took advantage of your roles very well and when it was clear you weren't town on the last night it was too late.

It is surprising Takhisis never targeted topsecret, he killed townies so effectively but not scum, but the town had already lost since about Day 7, that would have just made it possible for that team to win. Mayor did go inactive as I suspected, really hurts that he missed a couple scans and didn't tell any other living players his results.

Everyone knew topsecret was supposed to be Master Chief, at least I did too. What the town had was no reason to believe he was actually Master Chief because we weren't assuming the game host did things poorly and gave nobody cover roles. I knew all the analysis given was completely wrong on there being a serial killer and on many past townies so failing to recognize a cover role was a better bet than lynching the other vanilla townies (both options ended up wrong, and the town really had no solid information on anybody at all at the end, so the town was going to lose anyway). Topsecret didn't reveal anything and did nothing for a long time, but all the town power roles with nightly abilities really missed a lot. While it turns out he was attempting to use his ability again at the end he also didn't even mention to the townies that he was being roleblocked. As mayor also didn't scan topsecret, the only curiousity is who else ever have knowledge of any relevant night abilities or results from the host instead of going off of rumor.

The single best play of the game, because the smart decision making really deserves praise, was jht/BSmith converting Takhisis. Despite the leader killed so early nothing else would have kept the cult alive so long. Takhisis could have been murdered immediately by other scum realizing he was vanilla but the way that worked with a cult conversion was devastating for the town and completely changed the entire game. Also have to say, Mergle saving robbiecon from the WoG was a really sporting move as well.

I still don't get why you were trying to get me lynched, but whatever.

@Ninjacow, the textwalls were awesome. :goodjob:

Wow. Love that I was targeted 3 times in the first two nights. :(

Well, the one thing I was right about was Takhisis. Like *that* had an effect on the game.

For the record, I totally called TBK being scum. Those with misspelled usernames are not to be trusted.

My posts already agree with what choxorn said.

Never target topsecret? I've never played Halo. I didn't know who the Covenant Separatists and Elite were supposed to be, didn't know much except that the Marines were some sort of town, and never paid much attention. I do know that master Chief is the guy on the game's cover if that's any help, but had -have- no idea about the setting. Hey, I passed the finals anyway.

Yay! Askthepizzaguy once actually managed to rebuild such a cult in such a situation once, but the cult was completely destroyed in his case, by several lynches. And he was Askthepizzaguy! Meanwhile I couldn't convert!

This was a great game for me, though the town was a headless chicken for much of it. Still, it was fun. Overall, I will say that townie inactivity caused the town breakdown. For the mafia, Mergle was always active and effective (deffinatly the MVD, probably the single reason why we won) and I tired to remain active after death. We knew topsecret was MasterChief for a while, before which we and the SK where both vidge hunting. However, we chose to keep him alive until the end because we thought the other mafia was a much more dangerous threat (and Taki almost won too, brilliant with the WOG abuse, though it feels gamy).

All in the sake of becoming a better host, besides the delays and time management issues, were there any other things that I did that you liked, disliked, loved, hated?

I want to be able to keep the good and throw out the bad for next time.

Wait, wait...why did I die? I see nothing in the Night Actions that says I was even targeted, let alone scanned that night.

What gives?

This is my biggest question also - what was your plan with the false claim, Earthling? It seems to me that was a significant factor in the town's defeat as it sowed suspicion and divided the town, and gave me an in with one of the town factions as it was getting organised. It also enabled us to save spaceman, who was in danger of being killed in a bus crash, although as it happened topsecret correctly vig-killed him that night.

I was surprised that after the lynch of Dumanios and the fact that two people voted form Mergle died the next night, I am very surprised no one even bothered to vote for him after that.

WOG abuse? Nah. I really forgot to vote three days in a row.

Good updates, colours, clear… but try to remember to always include the list of living and dead players.

Once again, ignoring Earthling's textballs is recommended unless you have the Wisdom to see through whatever he means and the Charisma to counter him -as well as the Brawn to stand up and deliver a counter-textball.

Brawn, Vim, Strength, whatchawannacallit.
