Sorry to disappoint you, Zack, but as john finally figured out shortly before the end, this was nothing more than a tiebreaking mechanic. I know how much CFC loves to end days in ties, and since it came into play three times in five lynches, I feel somewhat vindicated in my decision to include it. Leaving it unclear what it was really for was just part of my general smoke-and-mirrors approach to what was, in fact, quite a simple game of mafia.

Initial Private Communication Loop + Item Possession
choxorn
robbiecon
Snerk - The Knight’s Shield
KingMorgan
Zack - The Admiral’s Spyglass
classical_hero - The Pirate’s Sword & The Director’s Monacle
Backwards Logic - The Poisoner’s Vial & The Brewer’s Tankard
landlubber
BSmith1068
johnhughthom - The Soldier’s Helmet
Visorslash - The Bandit’s Pistol & The Spy’s Disguise
MartinLuther
Autolycus - The Alchemist’s Elixir
Takhisis
askthepizzaguy - The Sailor’s Compass

Both communications and items were assigned to rooms at random (I thought I might have to reroll a couple of times to avoid possible balance issues, but in the event the first roll looked ideal), and then assigned to the players who chose those rooms on D1.

Item Powers
The Bandit’s Pistol - Nightkill weapon (only one scum could kill each night, the others could use their non-kill items)
The Spy’s Disguise - Make it look as if one player visited another at night (this couldn't be used on fellow scumbags)

The Pirate’s Sword - Nightkill weapon
The Director’s Monocle - Item scan (returned 'yes' or 'no')

The Poisoner’s Vial - Nightkill weapon
The Brewer’s Tankard - Roleblock (each player could only be targeted once)

The Admiral’s Spyglass - Watcher (learned the name of anyone who visited the target)

The Sailor’s Compass - Tracker (learned the name of anyone visited by the target)

The Soldier’s Helmet - Protect against the Bandit's Pistol

The Knight’s Shield - Protect against the Pirate's Sword

The Alchemist’s Elixir - Protect against the Poisoner's Vial

(The holders of the last three items were told that they could perform a 'partial protection' and were allowed to self-protect.)

And, finally, the Scum QT and the Dead QT.

Thanks for the game Winston. Was fun.

The turning point of the game is the day where landlubber gets lynched. We managed to get both classical and myself out of the way of the lynch (almost, but we won the tie anyway), and we just skated our way on to victory.

BL was very good to work with, his roleblock claim on Zack and the townies not lynching Zack first won us the game.

GG.

We almost lost it when Classical claimed - if you read the scum qt we wanted him to claim I had no item (to try and seal it immediately). Turned out not to matter.

Town never really tried to put on the pressure or the activity too much, which meant we could hide pretty easily.

Good game, thanks for hosting, Winston! Gratz to the mafia!
The pm limitations and not receiving confirmation from ability use made this game quite a challenge. But a fun one though.

My two contacts were Zack and BL. Which meant I had contact with one of my scum buddies already. Scanning ATPG and finding he had an item meant certain death for him.

I did like the write-ups so that was fun.

My plan this game was to track Zack every night until he died.

There's zero point in doing so as scum. Zack can then verify that's exactly where he was every night. Proves to him at least that I'm not the killer/roleblocker. And I can prove that Zack wasn't killing or roleblocking someone important.

Got scanned right away as per usual, killed off.

Then people lynched Zack, because why not.

Well you sealed your own fate when we knew you had an item and you kept really obviously saying zack was town from a pr perspective.

Excellent play by the scum. Interesting setup, the ambiguous mechanics made everything that much better.

Great game Winston! Wonderful setup and execution, loved the writeups with the imagery, and perfectly hosted! :goodjob:

A huge thanks to my teammates Visorslash and classical_hero! We were got lucky a bunch but made the right moves when it mattered. I thought for sure we lost the game when classical didn't fake claim Visor or when he admitted to stopping his scanning after D3, so I was pretty livid. I figured the town would mount a counter-wagon on Visor, or once after the claim on classical to keep the votes close (kill method changes right around the time he claimed which to me was a huge red flag) but no one pursued it. Additionally, Zack had the right idea of playing 'where's the item' and I/we wanted Visor cleared for at least one lynch to buy us the time we needed to win. The townies needed to do this a lot sooner - Visor would have been toasted otherwise.

We definitely needed someone other than Zack lynched the night before and fortunately the townies obliged with Takhisis. I was really hoping classical would get on and break the tie for us so Zack would be setup the following day, but we lucked out with the tiebreaker mechanics anyway. We had no idea how the tie would be handled, so it's just as well classical didn't vote Takhisis to seal the lynch.

GG everyone.

I'll take back-to-back scum wins, thank you very much!

Thanks for the game, Winston. Wish activity was better, myself included. Especially liked the private communication mechanics, how it encourages networking but guards against a huge town network.

I blame Takhisis for being scummy. :p Should have pressed BL harder on how it made no sense for a townie to block me (as I was proved to not be killing and obviously had an ability) and for him to claim stuff.

WTH, the scummier I am, the more probable it is that I am a townie, you silly Tycoon.

Now, interestingly, in mine and atpg's quicktopic I did keep asking whether the other players weren't really alive, and in conversation with Snerk (who inexplicably turned against me, the smeghead) I did suspect Visor, did think that one of the other lurkers (classical_hero and/or robbiecon) was the scum, and that one of Zack OR Backwards had to be scum… damn US government mafia!

Well, it was Snerk who laid out the case on you to me in private. I basically copy-pasted it into thread. So really it's all Snerk's fault.
