How alive are you? (and what does this even mean)

I think I only know its ideal. A powerful force carrying you away, giving you direction, meaning, belonging, purpose, drive, want, plans / powerful ideas of the future, energy, hope, future, needs to be fulfilled (and which you can fulfill), positive anger, Erhabenheit (no good English translation I saw: a feeling of knowing your course in relative ease and not being subject to outside emotional impact which act to your determent - basically a fancy way of being self-confident ... just more).
Conclusion:
Being alive is like a jet stream. Full of power drawn from sources all round, while forcefully carrying you in a specific direction of unknown frontiers.

So it is basic life in a tribal society. You got the world - your community - behind you and got some new land to explore.
So we literally made normal peaks of life the peaks of society reserved for the few wonder boys.

What does this tell us about the quality of modern society? I rest my case.

From my observation and study you can "be alive" at least in two ways. Pasively as a witness and knower detached from all the comotion around and dynamicaly through active participation in the endless wawes upon waves of energy and force often contradicting each other and feeding on each other both from inside and outside of your being. The limit isnt in the environment and the degree of its development as much as its in ones understanding and ones mastery and proper use of both the inner stuff which one is and the outer forces which put pressure on ones existence.

Far as I know, a person is either alive or they're not.

Some people do seem to have more energy, though. Or are more zestful in some way.

How can you be more alive? Any tips?

Some of us are jet engines some of us are hair dryers....not everyone will explore the peaks....hopfully at some point, we will all be warp coils

No drugs in my case but it reminded me that drinking a cold drink in hot weather intensifies my sense of being alive...

Because it shocks your body.
Cliches be cliches. But there is no more steady state of affairs in the whole realm of whatever than death.
That is the most provable statement in the whole of science history. no I am not kidding. I am seeing. Yeah I guess I am acting smart. But this is the kind of smartness wich imo defines interesting paths of thinking.

Actually, for some secs, you may be on to something!
The ***** is the longevity.
Still, I refuse to mock youtube vids on that, in general. Though OMG so much to freaking muck. So - much - I am close to getting an existential crisis over my refusal to indulge in it. It would likely make me the next baby of John Stewart, Gandhi and Oprah. Making a model career as a sideline a given.
Even more relevant: This post makes me look like an ass for trying to condense the most information in the least space. And that really makes me an ass, since I know for it but prefer to fall back on idealistic patterns which justify me to insult you.
Still, it is there. And still, this is me. I my change. But the it will not.

Only those who watch inspirational YouTube videos are truly alive
You may be up to something:

More seriously: inspiration is life.

Listening to music can change one's mood and energy level. Hangin' with friends can change one's mood. Feeling alive can come from what's around you and what's inside you. People need both.

Well we're about 70% water, so our cells probably only make up about 30% of our mass. Plus we have dead stuff like hair and nails and skin cells all over us. Maybe some in our guts too? Or at least we have bacteria in there that probably aren't technically "us". So I'm going to say I'm probably about 20 - 25% alive.

What you described is against verbal/formal consciousness everyone is forced into. We are all detached, especially those of us who spend a lot of time in the net.
