How Do Avatars Affect Your Perception Of Posts?

I wonder what people think of me with my avatar.

My theory is that you have an afinety for mammles because you are run by your second brain - http://www.psycheducation.org/emotion/triune brain.htm

Because of the fact that you latch on more to your second brain as oppose to the first or the third ( most "normal" people use them all eqaully) you are probably slightly anit social and have a tough time relating to people.

You will probably have a tough time till you learn to A.Work with you other brains or B.Find other people like you ...probably through through the internet.

Was I right?

A hippy with broad views? That's a contradiction in terms. :p

Avatars certainly affect how I preceive new posters - eg. aggressive avatar suggests insecurity - but for regulars they're mostly just recognition.

I still despise crossgender avvies. Stop it, dammit!

is that like how bullies are insecure deep down and very anti-gay people are really gay?

Riiiight. ;)

Sometimes people confuse me as being a female due to having women avatars ;).

I always think of you as a female - but its not so much you having a female avatar. More so because:

*Most of the people who I know who are into anime are female. So I think of anime watcers as being female (although my boyfriend watches anime...so I'm not entirely sure how that works)

*Where I go to church, its mainly mothers with children, not so many males. So I tend to think of most religious people as being female (which I know is not true, but it is just how I think)

isnt this thread turning into a duplicate of the other avatr thread?

Does your despise extend to posters having a famous model or actress as an avatar, such as Igloodude or Dell19?

I certainly hope so - TLC's (and others' who feel the same) annoyance is the only reason I've been keeping it, lately. :mischief:

I make an exception for Dell19. :)

You're right, and that is because people haven't understood my point. So here it is again; I believe that the avatar (more than the sig and the username since the avatar is an image and our brain prioritises such over texts) affects wich mood we choose to think a message was written in.

It matters that you are familiar with the poster, but not very much IMO. If the poster have a kind, smiling avatar, we probably think the message was written in that mood. In my OP I showed that we can descieve ourself easily.

So the question (again) is? How much do you think an avatar affect your perception of posts? The mood in wich they were written.

@Ingvina Freyr: I've assumed you're female, right or wrong?
Interesting, why this assumption? Is it that you're Swedish and that the "a" in the end of Ingvina sounds like a typical Swedish feminine ending, or is it something else? Something I said? My present or former avatars perhaps?

I don't think there's too much of a such effect. The post I'm replying to, frex, is coming as somewhat exasperated, which isn't the emotion your avvie expresses. I don't think of Jawz II as perpetually angry, still less of Chukchi Husky as perpetually happy.

Besides, every other post here contains smileys, which ought override any input from an avvie's expression.

Indeed, the name seems effeminate, as does the avatar.. however i assume all posters her to be male unless explicitly noted otherwise.. this due to the roughly 100,000-5 ratio on CFC
