I get influenced by avatars .... mainly because I usually post from work and I take little time to read all the posts ....... I usually hover over them real fast .... so usually I tend to have a preconcived idea of the poster in general.

and I also wonder what people think of me when they see MY avvie.

Many interesting answers so far! As many of you have pointed out, sigs and usernames are also very important factors as we jump to conclusions, but text is less delusive IMO.

I disagree, text is far more explanitory, especially the context within the post.

The few times when I judge people on avatars is the following:

Basically if you don't like something you aren't in, if you like something that's uncommon, you're left by the wayside, this is just pointless line drawing: you go with what you like, conformity is the redress of the slave: I am more popular, I tow the line of conformity, might as well buy a t-shirt saying I am a slave to fashion. Get your own life. There's only one way of life and that's your own.

In a neutral way. In fact, his choice of avatar reflects well on him, as I happen to know that it's a satirical picture. I respect a person who doesn't take their beleifs too seriously.
