How is your EU3 Game going?

My Spain game, I decided to more or less ignore Europe and get as much of america as possible. So far only Portugal have got in but i plan to take that when i claim their throne :mwaha:

I have a good heir do you reckon it is worth converting my leader to a general when my heir is a little older?

HJ, started with Castille or Aragon?

Aragon is really nice to play as, especially if you play mods (like i always play D&T if i get Aragon)
plus you can get historical spain, because of your italian missions.

Just put him in charge of one infantry regiment and send him on a trek in unclaimed West African provinces. That's what I did in my very first EU3 game (Castille>Spain) when my king got excommunicated.

Oooh, I like that. Parachute the royal millstone into Tuat with only a zero maintenance regiment for company; nice.

I finally got tired of the godawful vanilla map and downloaded DAO. SUCH an improvement. It's nice firing the game off and not having to avert my eyes at just how outrageously disgusting basically all of Europe is. I've been playing as France, which is rather a cakewalk, but still fun all the same. Right now I'm just trying to decide how best to deal with England as I don't really have the navy to make any kind of a landing a reality, and I'm much too lazy to build the navy right now.

I thought the vanilla map in EU3 up to HTTT was pretty terrible, but at least the Divine Wind map was a move in the right direction. How does the DAO Europe map compare to the DW map?

It is definitely an improvement, but it's still awful. DAO makes Europe and the Middle East provinces (Especially Germany and France for me) look less like squares with rounded edges and more like the actual territories they're supposed to represent.

I wish there was a way to customize your flag and nation name. I know you can rename provinces and armies etc but that's just a tiny peeve of mine.

You can (sort of - that is, only for one particular country). There's text files in the (game folder)\Paradox Interactive\Europa Universalis III\common folder (and history\country). One of those has countries listed (you'll have to be careful about editing them, though. I'm not sure how to go about renaming exactly. Flags are here - (game folder)\Paradox Interactive\Europa Universalis III\gfx\flags.

Nah. Gamey is editing the save to remove the king.

What I do is a council of bishops electing to have the king abdicated in a more creative way.

Gamey is acting in unrealistic ways inside the game
Some people who write stories edit the save to remove king, change something related to PU, and that kind of thing, purely for the sake of the history, this is not gamey, what you said however, is completely gamey.

Give me the country and the base flag and i can convert it for you, i remember modding in a Caliphate decision, if you want i can give it (it comes with a bonus to play Hedjaz as a steppe horde that gets less penalties, as it is the first of three caliphate governments, it's quite easy to enact it, you can do it by game start, and trust me, Hedjaz like this is fun to play as)

Yeah, this. Another example of gamey would be selling one of your provinces to a European power for 0 ducats so you can westernize.

Not at all. It's akin to giving a piece of land to a European power to set up a factory in exchange for advisors and technical expertise.

Ok, specifically racing to trade 7 gov 4 so get a boat to Europe asap to sell a province to Europe in the early 1400s

Alternatively, putting an army on that boat and taking Tunis or a similar territory for the purposes of westernizing.

Well, you could've heard rumours about advanced lands to the West and decide to try to explore for it. ;)

I got a question, how can I go into diplomacy of a nation after I conquer it's territory? I got a mission saying to break truce from the moors, but i've already conquer their territory and don't know how to get access to the diplomacy screen after I conquered their territory, instead I get the build menu.

Yep, this is playing gamey (rushing for these techs), however i have no problems with easterns exploring the west, i did it with Hosokawa -> Japan when it was like 1600 and no one had discovered me...and then selling provinces also isn't gamey, i agree on that, the easterns did sold port cities in exchange for weapons, advisors and that kind of thing in real life :)

As Ayutthaya I sailed west to find Castile in Benin, then annexed a neighbouring African minor to Westernise, then sold it to Castile when I had no more use for it. Also, I kept stability cost low by vassalising my neighbours instead of annexing them. :mischief:
