How is your EU3 Game going?

Also, claiming you are the (insert state of choice) would imply absolute monarchy. :p

that is my fav government form in that game :D sure, Constitutional Monarchy is good, but i like Absolute Monarchies, MOAR EPICNESS!

also my interesting Burgundy game in Death and Taxes :
And i must say that i'm trying to get Lotharingia borders

Interesting things :
France is protestant and Lithuania reformed.
Mughals and Hindustan formed
A japanese dayimio blobbed and is huge

Well that's it for my Byzantium game. I'm just greatly annoyed that I didn't learn that you could actually choose a Casus Belli so one wouldn't suffer a stability hit. Imagine how much more territory I could have captured! Next time though!

Predictably HRE collapsed hard and I was there to pick off the corpse, trying to get as much former Roman territory as possible before 1821 and suffering too hard from infamy. Also made conquests in the Middle East, attempting to gain the East Mediterranean coast.

Rebels reintegrated my former territories in the area between LA and San Francisco. Declared independence and tried to take some of my territory so I seized Delaware.

The final report gave me a bad reputation but I'm the greatest nation in the world

That's quite an overseas empire. :)

Okay so I am Castille, just got Aragon to OPM while Austria and France who had guaranteed them were busy fighting each other. I am going to start colonizing now, grabbed some Islands that could and I can just now grab some of Brazil... Is just bee lining for the native gold the way to go or make my own colonies? Is taking over West Africa a good idea? Are there areas I should leave open for the AI to colonize? it is like 1470 and no one has the quest yet.

Also what are good national ideas? I got the one that reduces inflation, quest and one that increases colonists.

I always hear that Africa is never worth it, so my advice would be to leave it well alone. England, France and (if you let them) Portugal always seem to create an African empire.

Your ideas really depend on how you want to play. If you want to focus more on colonisation, maybe get the other one related to colonists (I believe it increases colonial growth?) That will reduce your costs on supporting colonies; they are very expensive, believe me! If you want a colonial monopoly, just focus on taking all the coastal provinces and focus on the inland later. That way, you are able to take the entire continent for yourself and when it cores some half a century later, you will be rolling in money.

It is, some provinces in Africa are really nice, like north Egypt, some provinces in north africa like Tangiers, Kongo and the gold provinces are nice.

some people claim Arabia is poor as well, but seriously, coffee and spices provinces? Arabia has awesome provinces!

leonel; you've played through 3, maybe 4 full games of EU3 and you didn't know that you could choose your casus belli?

I didn't! It never occurred to me I could select those options on the side of the declare war panel and I couldn't find any clear indication on how to get a casus belli from internet searches.

Plus I'm a newbie in terms of any Paradox strategy games.

Most provinces in Africa are terrible, though. In vanilla EU3, you would do best to colonise the islands around Africa (such as Cape Verde and Zanzibar), as well as South Africa (which has gold). Conquering Yemen and/or Oman will give you good military bases in Arabia, especially if you get Socotra from Yemen. Ceylon and the Maldives are good military bases near India, as are the Andaman islands.

If you maintain a large colonial empire then getting some African provinces is worth it: getting 'trading in slaves' gives you something like 33% extra overseas income. Not to mention ivory and gold, very common in the southern half of Africa are very valuable. As far as long-term value, though, the Caribbean, especially Cuba always gives me the highest returns among overseas provinces by endgame if I founded those colonies by the mid-1550s.

Although Kongo has valuable territory, the rest of Angola and Namibia is useless AFAIK. I do know that Mutapa has plenty of gold provinces.

At war with all the Iberian countries (they got into a alliance chain quite early, until now they're really loyal to each other)

Novgorod is my only ally thanks to GB becoming junior under a PU with Brandenburg
Mamluks are under a PU and i'm hoping to give back these castillian provinces to them (they have cores on it, it seems)
I have a core in the province screwing my borders in Hungary (it's owned by Bavaria) and the Iraq thingy will be annexed as soon as i get a CB :p

Kongo is really nice territory, being pagan and having rich provinces, don't forget about the rich north african provinces (they have a really high base tax), these ones are always worth to get with countries like Portugal or Castille, the other provinces you can just vassalize the muslims or conquer-release (after force-removing cores they may have in the rich provinces, you'll want to keep those)

EDIT :

Just finished the war against the Iberian alliance, took 9 provinces out of it (including Ragusa!)
eu323.png

Much nicer borders in the south now, right? :)

I said the Mamluks are in a PU with me :)

and Austria is HRE and allied with Novgorod, i don't want to lose the Novgorodians as allies, i can wait...in the meanwhile i am getting more and more advanced (i'm 2 or 3 techs ahead of Austria when it comes to land)

I also just defeated a Bavarian-Milanese alliance, was hard but i cleaned my borders, took all Milanese territories in Croatia and that province making my Hungarian border ugly

On another note, Austria made the HRE Monarchy hereditary...if they form the HRE it's going to be almost exacly like Charlemagne empire, thanks to Burgundy making pretty all the French minors enter the HRE

EDIT :

There's the current territories in the Holy Roman Empire, if it wasn't for the baltic provs it would really be a beautiful thing that looks like the Carolingian Empire :
eu324.jpg

And the current state of the Ottoman Empire (my best ruler died some time ago and still no inheritance of mamluks )

Like you guys can see, should Austria be successful in forming the HRE, they will get cores in ALL of Burgundy, Brandenburg and Bavaria, the only other HRE great power that won't be added to their cores is Milan, anyway, they would be INSANELY strong, more than enough to endure the rebels, as long as i don't invade them to get the territories i want, of course :D

Silly Austria taking all those scattered baltic/polish provinces.

Who owns India?
