How is your EU3 Game going?

Ok, a lot of new nations has appeared recently: Chile defected from Holland, Quebec from UK, Canada from Mecklenburg and Mexico defected from Prussia along with 2 of my provinces. I don't want any countries defecting from my own Empire so I've stationed quite a lot of troops around my colonial gains.

So France has a scripted revolution?, because they aren't an absolute monarchy and they are losing pretty badly against everyone.

Here are the criteria
. (not updated, so it might have changed in DW. I haven't played enough games to see a revolution happen yet)

There are revolutions and colonial uprisings. The american revolution is actually an uprising-event. Here is a list of all events which can be found in the events-folder.

If I understand this correctly the event will eventually happen if there is not already the USA in the game or at least some cores of the USA, it is at least 1750 and there is a country that owns Susquehanna, Mahican, Manhattan, Connecticut or Massachusetts (this would be the target for this country event). The event will trigger sooner if the target country is centralized, has a ruler with low administration, low stability and the year is 1760 or 1780 already.

In my France game, Quebec defected from Britain and Spain, and Central America, Mexico, Venezuela, Pegu, Catalunya and Galicia all defected from Spain!

The first time ever I'm actually doing well 100 years into the game. The problem now is that I can't stop playing.

It's 1508 and I have cores everywhere in my territory except for 3 in Poland (those are coming soon though). I just got a core in Gdansk and was looking into shifting my focus into colonization while my infamy dies down a bit.. but I don't see a way to do that aside from focusing my research on naval and falling behind in the land tech race. All the colonies I click on are "too far".

Hungary is emperor and has been for most of the game. Burgundy is a part of the empire too and was emperor for a bit as well. I was involved in a huge war against Hungary with my allies Lithuania and Milan earlier in the game during which Poland was partitioned between the 3 of us. Poland now only has Riga and Poznan. Hungary was forced to release transylvania and croatia (which it has since re-vassalized). I have faithful vassals in Brandenburg and Zaporozhie, but everybody else in Europe is neutral towards me except for a couple happy random hre members.

I have a feeling I should abandon my plans to colonize and spend some time making some friends in Europe for the next little while.. what do you guys think?

edit: I guess I am posting this because the first real "goals" I gave myself in this game have been met: unseating hungary as a powerhouse and gaining a core on the coast.

Wow, I'm not sure I've ever seen that happen. In my current Milan --> Italy game it was Balkanized all to hell, but England only has the coast and Burgundy has had its own problems (DW emperor reputation spiral).

I wouldn't recommend colonizing as Bohemia. At this fairly early stage you'd have to radically reorient yourself to do it, and since you're a land power surrounded by land powers that could prove very dangerous. Just keep munching on your neighbors whenever the opportunity presents itself.

Gobble up Austria, make pals with the Russkies, GB/Bourbon

That's one of the most wonderful Frances I've ever seen.

Say I really wanted to, what would I have to do?

I also just converted and am now protestant. I don't think there are any other protestant countries beside me, but most of my provinces were protestant so I thought.. makes sense, right? Or no? I have since been able to convert 2 more of my provinces, working on the rest..

[Warpus] I'm not sure if you can. You'd have to take the Quest for the New World national idea, which allows explorers and increases your colonization range by 50%. You'd then have to hire an explorer to lead a naval force in exploring the Atlantic. That's difficult to do from so far away, so you'll want military access with a nearby power (spain, england, portugal). Base your ships in their port closest to the new world and take it slow, discovering one or two sea provinces per voyage and then sending your ships back to your ally's port to repair. Once you've found a place in the new world, you send a colonist. With Gdansk being your nearest port, though, I'm not sure any new world provinces will be in your colonial range.

You'd have to do all that to colonize at all, but to do it efficiently would require much more. Changing sliders to give you more colonists and better colonial growth, building a navy far larger than your forcelimit, etc.

How do I extend my colonial range?

30 years have passed and I fought another war with Hungary - vassalized Warmia and forced them to drop croatia and wallachia. Lithuania was inherited by Sweden, but shortly thereafter split in 2 - I used the opportunity to annex 2 provinces in lithuania (one of them being my core). Just got a core in Wien, but lost my king so I can't attack Austria. Willl try to steal money producing provinces and vassalize as soon as I get a king

edit: burgundy annexed switzerland

How do I extend my colonial range?
Better Naval Tech and hiring Navigators as Advisors. Navigators are pretty easy to pick up and can grant enormous boni.
