Look, bestbrian, stay with the land/naval slider at 0, raise two armies of 6000 or 8000 each and send them to the new world to conquer Mexico after your infamy is arond 21 or 22 (gold mines ftw), then use them to keep peace in the conquered areas, don't forget to colonize to the north of the conquered area, it has more gold mines, after you discover the Inca and Mexico is pacified and converted to catholic, send one army to conquer the Inca, they have more gold. many areas near them can be colonized and will give you gold!
about sliders...go :
full merchantilism
full narrowminded (you're spain, and i hope you'll colonize as much as possible, narrowminded helps that)
full free subjects (will help your tech, so narrowminded will not destroy it, but your size may end up destroying it if your economy is not strong)
full quality
land/naval 0 (when you inherit France you may go land)
full centralized (of course)
full aristocracy (i'm assuming you'll want to conquer some of Europe, considering the awesome position you are in, so trade in foreign cots will be useless)
don't forget to join a trade league if you can, and if you get the Italian Ambitions mission (i did in my spain game, very early, so it was even better) attack the country with the most universities (in my game was Milan, the 3 coastal provinces they start with) and profit with your new cores.
don't forget the religious decisions, enact the ones that give more missionaries and more convertion chance, and of course, the bishops one that makes stability cheaper (big empires have stability problems
)
and Empire is the best early government, it is a monarchy, it has a awesome title, very good bonus, more magistrates, awesome (again
) and you can change to Absolute monarchy for 1 stability (cheap!)
try to become a Empire as early as you can, because if you get it when you're massive...well...good luck getting stability back, but get it anyway, it's worth it.
oh, if France insults you, just declare a crusade/war in somenoe, then reject all peace deals, France won't insult you when they're in war. another option would be getting a bigger army.
