I decided to start a game as the Iroquois, because my Timurids game is on hold and Novgorod just wasn't challenging enough. I've played ahead a good ways, but I'll spread out the updates to increase the suspense and highlight some of the unusual facets of this game, both in my area and abroad.
This brings us to the first glance at the world, in August, 1425.
In the New World, I was forced to conquer the Huron right away, because they tried to conquer me. A large mercenary army was successful, debt was accumulated, and they were annexed. And they were not happy about it. Although they were annexed in 1400, it was less than four years ago that I wrested the last province from the most recent rebellion. Now the revolt risk is a manageable 2.5% or so in their former provinces, and the economy is in better shape. All techs, including stability, are zero.
But in the Old World, things are a-happening! Aragon has gained the upper hand on Castille, and even more inexplicably, so has Morocco, who together with Algiers owns North Africa. Further east, Sicily of all powers has becoming the first imperialistic western nation, taking part of the Mamluk lands. And, for the first time in any game I've ever played, Ireland has formed, with no interference from myself. Seeing as Cornwall also exists, England clearly lost a war, but even so, a unified Ireland is a surprise. We've also seen Serbia go from being an Ottoman vassal to a Venetian one, while Bosnia has gained independence.
And we've had an existant Ireland, Aragon being superior to Castille, and Morocco in Iberia for no less than 8 years.
Will Morocco and Aragon become dominant in Iberia, and will Ireland stand on its own against the hungry English lords? Perhaps more importantly, will the Iroquios stand or their own or prove to be a paper tiger? And will the Ottomans finally put forth a respectable showing, or will they become a Venetian province like Serbia? Only time will tell.
