Imagine for a second that Azerbaijan and Armenia went to war. Assuming the following conditions were true what do you think would be the outcome of it would be in regards to victor and damage done.

Conditions assumed to be true:

"Armenia" also includes Nagorno-Karabakh, the Armenian state which has separated from Azerbaijan.
The Mujahadeen would not get involved, because, as in the 90s, the possible religious dimension available in this war would not be played out

Do you think Azerbaijan has a chance of invading Armenia and winning?

Does Armenia have the manpower to defend themselves from the Azeri forces without significant territorial loss or casualties?

What are your thoughts?

I think that if such a war occured, the Azeri's would likely take a beating, but at significant cost to the Armenians. However, I think the end result would be that Artsakh manages to assert its independence even more so.

Of course, then there's the fact that Russia has pledged to defend Armenia if Azerbaijan is the aggressor (I can't get the link to this right now; it was in a recent edition of Pravda, IIRC), and of course Turkey would be likely to get involved if either Armenia was the aggressor, or if Armenia invaded Nakhchivian.

Forces:
Azerbaijani Armed Forces
Armenian Armed Forces
Nagorno-Karabakh Defense Army

Turkey would give the Azeris war subsidies, so they'd come out on top.

Armenia is in the CSTO and thus Russia would ensure that it won, and won handily.

Hot dayum, nicca, that there be a lot of conflicts they ain't got involved in in the last 20 years!

But Russia would do the same to Armenia...
Nah, Russia won't honor the agreement; they still have cores in Armenia and want to take them for themselves. Turkey has no such issues with Azerbaijan.

Cher would step in for Armenia. Remember, she can turn back time.

You don't want to know the depths I had to go to to find this photo.

Russia will get involved, America might if they see it good to mess with the Russians, Though I highly doubt it. What if Azerbaijan convinces Georgia to attack and open up a second front on the Russians? Also, as my (Badly made  ) picture shows, Georgia and Azerbaijan cut off Russia from Armenia, and if Russia attacks Georgia to get to Armenia and hit the Azerbaijanis from the sides or rear, It might very well bring the US's ire to bear on Russia.

Yeah, we might make some noise, but we're not actually going to do anything to help some random Caucasian republic that Russia has decided to crush. Especially not Azerbaijan.
