But if you're talking mating for life, why are you okaying serial monogamy? If you advocated only having one partner ever, then although I disagree, I would respect your viewpoint as being consistent. But you're still allowing yourself to have relationships one after the other (even if they last for 10 years or more) which isn't "mating for life".

Also, what has "for life" got to do anything? If you favour "for life", surely multiple relationships for life would be better than having several one after the other.

well here in Canada NO religion can have multiple wives. We have gay weddings, eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeewwww but not multiple wives.Looks like our courts got SOMETHING right

I think that if polygamy was legalized worldwide, it would only be found in cultures where women are already demeaned, dehumanized, and barely able to think for themselves - or the male equivalent, though no such equivalent exists, as far as I know.

Legalizing polygamy would help keep these women downtrodden.

Be careful what you wish for, multiple wives = multiple headaches. One wife is quite enough for most men. I think what you really want is a harem -- there to meet your (ahem) appetite when you want them, but not putting any other demands on you or your time.

Yes. [Well, not multiple *husbands*, since that's illegal; similarly I haven't seen instances of men seeking multiple wives. I have however seen examples of multiple relationships of both types, and many more, and some of these people may wish to get married if it was possible.]

You also forget other possibilities, eg, a ring of four, not to mention including same-sex or mixed-sex groups, where there are many more possibile combinations.

False, practicing multiple relationships already exists in our culture, as I stated earlier, albeit not widely known about, and the term "polygamy" is rarely used, because people either assume it means "marriage" which is illegal, or only consider "one man many women" as you yourself do.
