We have. It simply depends on whether a certain mechanic is to be included in 1.4, or left for 1.5.

Besides 1.4 release date has already been confirmed as December 2012. Presumably on the 23rd.

After Jheral and anw confirmed a December 2012 release date it just seemed like the most likely release date.
 
Unique event for Barnaxus upon entering Letus Frigum? Given that in a typical game he spends the vast majority of his existence in the least accessible corner of the known world, and contributes nothing beyond a boost to other units that might as well be a Wonder, it would be nice to have something to DO with him.

There is the old standby of gaining a trait (Spiritual, perhaps), or he could pick up a promotion that grants other golems Resident Machine Spirit, or maybe he could be 'waned' into a Great Engineer and his golem bonuses pass into the domain of all Luchuirp craftsman, ensuring that they can no longer be lost with him.

or he could turn into a big scary angel with a thousand cold damage and forcibly spawn the Frozen all over everything, even the player's desktop background, where they will be just as horrifying as usual and quickly crowd out everything you could ever dream of accessing with garbage icons and inhospitable terrain, just saying

Or he can give all golem units increased strength when he gains the combat promos, just saying.;) Also I didn't know wonders could get promos...maybe it will be a new feature in 1.4?

I can't tell if I somehow implied Wonders can GET promos, but they can certainly GIVE them. Barnaxus' function is largely indistinguishable a Wonder granting Empower V to all Golems. You can't even build improvements with him like Egrass could.

I was just listening to Song for Ancestors by Juno Reactor and I couldn't help but think of the Archos. It is dark and tribal with some chanting. There is a female vocal section as well that made me think of mother singing to her brood. Anyway, give it a listen.

Yeah but he has to be leveled to a cetain point to give those promos. I would like to see him give a buff to golems for all the other standard promos he can take too though...he is technically immortal on the plus side.:mischief:

That point is level 5; he is a Strength 5 unit with immunity to Death and Poison. I've never had an issue farming him unless I'm boxed in. Given that he's not a Hero and doesn't contribute anything besides that buff to golems, having an issue farming makes him utterly worthless, which is why he might as well be a Wonder, since his status as a unit does nothing but add annoying prerequisites to the sole effect of note.

The problem with giving him other standard promo buffs is that you have to remember he's empowering an army, so any benefits he gives become multiplicative. The issue I have with Barnaxus is that he does not in any way fulfill the function of a hero because as a UNIT, he is barely superior to a normal Axeman unless you're up against the Archos or D'teshi (poison and death-reliant, respectively). His buff is probably not the way to improve this.
 
A few ideas I'm tossing out*:
  • Allow Barnaxus to upgrade in some way, to keep him relevant (and keep him able to defend himself)
  • Make any/all promotions he gains permanent, rather than lost when he dies (Note: Your golems would still lose the effects until he is rebuilt, but once rebuilt he would have his promotions again)
  • Make more promotions grant effects.
  • Make him a Commander, with special golem-oriented command promotions (My favorite)

Is there anyway to make the AI know how to use him? The AI always just gets him killed post haste and then never rebuilt, which makes Luchuirp even weaker (the AI also seems to prefer slingers over golems).

Personally, I would give him fairly powerful Golem-based Auras, rather than making him a leader; fits with his current style, and could replace his giving of bonuses to fresh golems units entirely.

Also, on the subject of upgrading heroes; this is sort of something I think all heroes should do to some extent.
