A comet passed earth in near orbit and made some idiotic modifications to our planet. Tubby is working on them now.

Some familiar faces have agreed to participate in my luancy. Roster is (maybe) full.

Sesn (an oldie but a goodie to get us rolling)
Whomp (an idiot in everything but name)
Dbear (way beyond me in intellect, but willing to play anyway)
Soul Warrior (corporal of the idiot academy, need i say more?)
Tomoyo (in this to show off the new avatars or play with a legend - sesn)
AK (incomplete idiot, still lookin for that last part)
venerable monk
viper
daghdha
beorn el feared

big roster - 2 groups a la jumpmasters?

tubby (if I've read the PM's correctly) has agreed to mod our world per our specs.

The questions are:

what level and what variant? :mischief:

My two brain cells say DG and barbaric but they're easilly swayed by peer pressure and are open to suggestion. As all should know, i really like anything that will let me play with heli's and stealth. Or should we just bite the bullet and do this on diety?

Looking to start mid June after some discussion.

I've never played barbaric before... but should be fun... I guess...

Barbaric is Despotism only and some other thing, right? I forgot.

I'm leaning towards Infantry, actually... besides, that will extend the game and let you use your stealth and helis. :D

@ tomoyo - my barbaric is you may never build any culture like temples, libraries, etc. exemptions granted for large and small wonders. gov't changes are allowed @ plarq - I'm an idiot, but i'm not that insane

Checking in

this should be a blast with the team noted above check in with your prefs for level and variant and size etc.

@ all be nice to Mrs. Tubby, maybe she'll unhide the disc and let him play one...

Temple of Artemis? :mischief:

Is this a world map? How many civs are we thinking?

Barbaric...research would be mighty tough but I'm good with that. Could you say libs and unis only in the 5 core? Then you avoid building culture simply for border expansion.

One variant I've thought of is when an upgrade becomes available it must be used that turn or the unit is disbanded . I see this doing a couple things.
1. It slows our tech pace because we would have to build cash pre-upgrade.
2. We'd have to be very conscious of our military builds and whether they are really necessary.

I played barbaric once in Vpr5. It was fun, and research wasn't that bad (even without libraries and universities). I don't care about which variant too much though.

@Sesn: You're back!

What civ are we using, is that up for discussion still? I suppose that should prolly be chosen after the variants, etc anyhow.

Re: map size. I'd rather avoid huge, especially if we're looking to get to helis and stealth. I've never been a fan of 2 hour turns.

Re: difficulty. I have had exactly zero success at anything containg "sid". Have had varying amounts of success below that, once upon a time. Again, variants will impact this decision.

Re: variants. Barbaric and infantry both seem fine. Whomp's suggestion is very intriguing, but I believe would affect the difficulty level quite a bit. I also was perusing the variants thread and thought the Non-Midas one seemed appealing, probably in conjunction with something else.

 That's nonsense, even from a complete idiot. I think I'll be the one in awe of the other players here.

Indeed, good to see you, ole boy. :D

standard world map mutated so the resources are not in the historical locations (with hopefully a few other changes) shall we do something relaxing like emperor with more than 8 AI?

Temple of Artemis
you're right, no big wonders, just little ones. how do I do that line thingy thru my prior posts?

Life is not a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well-preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and loudly proclaiming WOW, what a ride
halfway there

@ whomp - are you saying we can't build new units after we get the techs?

Isn't it something like [s ] scratch [ /s]?

yep, sure is

@ whomp - are you saying we can't build new units after we get the techs?

I know, I'm not him, but the way I understood his meaning was this:

Let's say we have ten warriors built when we discover IW. On the turn we discover IW, and that turn only, we have the option to upg those warriors to swords. If we opt not to, whether for lack of cash or any other reason, then those units must then be disbanded. Essentially, you would never have any obsolete units in the empire at any time.

Of course, the way I read it, he said when the upgrade is available, not necessarily the tech, so there could be some room for play in when you hook up the resource in that case. Of course, if we tried to plan on that, it would be the time that the iron poppd up on a previously roaded square. :crazyeye:

Is that about right, or did I miss it too?

Well, you always said that you wanted to play a SG with me. :D

Anyway, does anyone want to do Infantry + Non-Midas + Barbaric + Whomp's variant? :mischief:

Might as well add in the FRFR variant in there and make it Chieftain. :crazyeye:

Indeed I did. Was good to see you finally broke down and bought Conquests. :p

I think Whomp's and Non Midas effectively cancel out because of the gold reserve you'd need for upgrading. But I'm up for whatever, in true idiot style. :D
