Igor1, The Dawn of the Idiots

Oh... right...

But it would just mean that every time we learned a new way of fighting, we would trash our old units because they weren't shiny enough. :D

This should be a blast! Idiot's, rodents, Monks, anime, Boudicca, bad starters, music and Sesn...what more could one want in a SG?

Like Sesn saidOn my variant the upgrade has to happen whenever it becomes available.

IE If Tubby for some reason decided iron could be found on plains :mischief:and not just hills/mountains and it's hooked up when we learn IW then all warriors are disbanded and upgraded that turn. If it's not then once it is hooked up mass upgrade time. If I understand Midas then we would probably want to do one or the other. We'd have to decide whether Leo's can be built.

I'm flex on level.

:salute: aye, aye, admiral. setting course to SW at 12 knots.

technicalities first:
emperor or DG would be better for me. DG is mighty scary to me right now, and Deity... would have to be a madman. but in lieu of training for my idiot Sergent stripes, and if thats what it takes....

variant: whmps looks nice. barbaric... never tried it, but seems ok.

so many legends around :worship: the :king:
the :bounce:ing  is proud to share the game with this lot.

I'd like to give all three variants a go at once, let's say Emp would probably make it fun? Not sure where the difficulty fits in here. If we wanted to alter Whomp's variant to leave out the disbanding requirement, but keep the one shot upgrade rule, then we could probably even notch it up again.

Be warned though, I have no real idea how difficult all these variants will play together. I could certainly be off on my assessment, but that doesn't mean I won't try. :D

.....I remember this one game, something about some defiant samurais ...... yup, pretty much thought that was suicide from the get go .... I think we ended up giving it a good run though .... ;)

I think we might want to drop the non-Midas one if we do Whomp's...

Emperor sounds reasonable.

Sesn, having fun? Red Sox 12-0 over the Yankees right now. :D

Agree with losing the Non Midas variant. I meant to mention that in my previous post. It has been filed for future retrieval.

Yes, I'm having great fun, 14-0. Did you know the worst loss to the Sox in Yankees stadium history was in the 30's, 15-2. Record setting drubbing, potentially. :D

Yeah, I'm watching the same broadcast you are, probably. ;)

Might as well add in the FRFR variant in there and make it Chieftain. :crazyeye:
lurker's comment: That sounds like fun

In addition, the worst loss to the Sox by the Yankees ever was in 1990 in Fenway, 15-1. Beat that, too. :D

Record setting performance or not, I would have rather had about five of those runs yesterday instead of today.

Nonetheless, it was a beautiful thing to see, the balls all seem to have had eyes on them today. At least the ones we hit did. :D

My eyeballs start spinning when you guys start talking about variants on any level above Emperor.

How about a nice Demi-god game and we have to win by Conquest in the Modern Age with paratroopers, helicopters and marines?

Using marines, paratroopers, and helicopters is pretty much forced upon us if we do infantry on an archipelago map... :mischief:

EDIT: With non-Vikings, and on a high-ish difficulty level.

Checking in to say hi to Sesn. Since I already have my 2 games, I will be lurking in this one.
I think that a good idiot game would be a FRFR type.

What's the
FRFR variant
?

I've axed whomp to preserve coastlines (for the most part) and move resources (as well as a few other inland mods). The view from space should be pretty familiar.

Still looking for that game where helicopters and paras will have utility.

Non-midas is too brain intensive for a summer game.

The variant and the civ are sort of intertwined. As an in between solution, how bout foot soldiers only until tanks, barbaric, and emperor or DG? The opium barons variant is always fun too (number of offensive wars is a function of your lux. If we have all eight, no offensive wars may be fought. if we have 7 we may fight one offensive war per age. Wars must stop when we acquire a new lux from the civ we are at war with. Imported lux are not included in the calculations.)

Or maybe we should give the lurkers 2 choices and let them decide? :crazyeye:

Commercial, militaristic, expansionist, industrious are my choices for civ (in that order)

Anyone want to do 2 teams and run comparission games a la jumpmasters?

@Romeo - Hello again :)

If we could come up with a map of Indonesia or something that would be good for your helis and paras - a lot of small, close together islands. But that map won't be this game.

I think the Non Midas has definitely fallen by the wayside. Like I said, I'll file it away for future use. The opium barons thing is sort of interesting, and could easily be intertwined with the variants already in discussion. I don't actually see it as being that much of a limitation until potentially fairly late in the game.

I think we'll NEED to do a couple different teams here. With the nine or ten people you already have involved, it would be difficult to keep everyone involved and interested when you only take one turn a month.

asked a wise relative of Igor? and just then he remembers his family genes and promptly forgets. so really, what is it?

well, im trying to cut down on my opium intake, but i can be persuaded to take a whiff here and then.
and i love walking, so seems a-ok.

yeah, make them answer a POLL, and we'll take whichever result wins.

dont mind either way

do we have a choice? put the names in a hat and draw up the names?
it could be a mini SGOTM ;)

FRFR is finally ready for regent. It is a variant Charis and Sirian did. IIRC they could not improve their lands at all. Every city they settled was on a lux or resource. I'm not sure they even finished it. In typical fashion though it's a great story with those two.

As far as variants go I am addicted to luxs so I like that variant. But a standard game at DG sounds good too.

I also like the idea of two (or three) captains drafting teams serpentine style or bidding with a salary cap (transfer iirc is the British term?). This could add a little spice to the competition.

In the Romanes game we do something like that FRFR, but my God is it hard not to be allowed to improve. So hard we actually has started to quiz for prize-improvments  .
A standard DG would do nicely for me. Adding diff to that is not neccesary for this Raging Rodent, but I'll tag along with anything if it's done tounge in cheek.

Sir Bugsy and I actually finished and won a FRFR game (called Gang of Four, IIRC) It was kind of fun in the beginning, bit got to be real slogger in the end. Won by domination with the Vikings on an Archi map. After infantry came in we had to foment warfare among the rest and snatch territory when we could. Building 90sp troops without mines was just too painful, and paying for the buildings was tough without roads, even with the SEA coastal commerce.

Demi-god with a resource (strat/lux) warfare requirement: if we don't control at least one source we have to be at war with whoever does until we do. Nation: America!
