. We will send a party of diplomats to inform King Otto of Spain about possible peace deals. In return for peace they must agree to make the monarchy constitutional and to pay a small compensation of 5 RP to the Commune.

We wish to negotiate more before we come to an agreement. However, we wont give up Sardinia and Sicily.

As head of the diplomatic party send by the elected Senate of the socialist community that lays in France, I am set by duty to commence both the diplomatic patching of the needed peace and talk of the possible ending of a Italian-Spanish conflict that seems to have occurred with our Spanish-Franco war.

For our desires for your country to adopt a democratic system we will wish your nation to take steps. We want you to give power to the people via a parliament elected via universal suffrage. You can remain king but you will be more of a symbolic role as oppose to a political government. The compensation will be talked of.

As for Sardinia and Sicily we think it may be best to leave it to the Italians. In return the French will demand that Italy withdrew from Spain. Failing that we would want both Sardinia and Sicily to become independent democracies. The people must be taken account of. They are what make a society.

When we reach your capital we will also talk about the peoples’ hopes for the brighter tomorrow.

Another of the French diplomats steps forward: a Thomas Smith, who was born in York then came to France to be a citizen. He speaks out:

“We could set Italy to agree to allow your control of Sardinia if you grant some currency (like RP) to them.”

The Republic of Coffee and Milk is so named because of the leaders which rule the nation come from areas which produce a lot of coffee and milk, and generally own huge latifunas (giant farms) in what is now São Paulo and Minas Gerais. It is ruled by what is claimed to be a nominal democracy, but actually is an oligarchy where the results of the votes are known long before the election results come in. Extensive autonomy is given to individual states, although Rio de Janeiro is kept as the capital of the country to balance the power between São Paulo and Minas Gerais. The government, is of course, very oppressive to left-wing movements and has so far prevented any real labor unions and large movements from forming, but there is growing opposition to the government, even from within it.
