More They Are Billions:

The imaginatively-named Colony Twelve was established in the Frozen Wastelands to cleanse this inhospitable terrain from the infected. Several infected towns were razed, and some expeditions to the north were made to eliminate some high-threat targets before they could assault the city walls.

Spoiler Hunting giants :
Only six brave soldiers lost their lives in this engagement.

After expanding to a comfortable size and getting some breathing room, the lands to the south and east were mostly left untouched for the time being as scouts reported a vast horde approaching. The colonists sprang into action, building outer walls with multiple layers of defenses, and sectioning the city interior with walls to slow the spread of possible infection.

Spoiler Heavily fortified City Hall :

Exploratory probes by smaller infected groups tested the walls, revealing areas which needed more extensive defenses.

Spoiler Southern Wall: during and after a moderate assault :

Spoiler Northern Narrows: before and after Last Stand :

They broke through the narrows!!! Rushing all available Titans and flame troops managed to stamp out the infection before it spread beyond the immediate district.

When the final wave is triggered, every infected on the map joins the hordes to rush your walls. Clearing operations throughout the game will thus reduce the number of enemies you have to face in the Last Stand. I was confident in my southern defenses as they were quite in-depth, so I didn't bother to clear that side of the map. I'm glad I cleared the north for the most part, though, because my defenses in the narrows were not enough to stop a breakthrough. I thought that the natural funnel would keep them at bay with fewer defenses needed, but I was wrong! Every flank except for that one weathered the assault with minimal surprises, but I had to rush every mobile soldier up in the middle of the assault to prevent a mass infection getting into my city.

This was also my first game building every single wonder because I had cleared an enormous open area to my west and managed to secure it relatively early. I would say that 3 of the 6 wonders are essential (huge food bonus, huge energy bonus, and huge veterancy bonus), and the other 3 are either nice-to-have or more situational.

This was a fun map, but it was a hard scrabble for food in the frozen ground. On to the Desolate Wastelands!

Get Tesla towers. Seriously. I mean, seriously.

There's no point in fortifying City Hall, if things are going that poorly that you need it, you've already lost. IMO. It does look pretty though

Making things look cool is at least 50% of the reason I like base building in an RTS...

Mayhem begins in an hour.

Birdjaguar could be hosting a LAN party to get his children hooked on PoE.

Grandchildren coming to visit? :)

Oh no wait, this is not the Raves thread...

 This is the "what game are you playing" thread.

Mayhem is a week long event for Path of Exile players that fills each regular game play area with multiple random mechanics from past leagues and then changes those events every hour for the week of play. It is a game changer for loot, experience, danger and leveling. Mayhem is not a league for beginners.

Our kids are busy with their lives and don't have time for a game like POE atm. Our daughter is due to have a baby in the next two weeks and has things other than games on her mind. :D

The Long Dark

After almost 80 days away, I'm back where I started, on Timberwolf Mountain. I was all the way over on Desolation Point. It took me 2 hours irl just to get back up here. I'd forgotten how much stuff I'd left behind in the cabin. Now I have to hike around and find the entrance to the new zone.

Played a bunch of Rome 2 campaigns. I cheat in single-player games, so I decided I'd try my hand at legendary difficulty. It was not fun. Even with cheats, the mechanics are stacked heavily against you, like severe public order penalties just for existing. It forced me to, *dry heave*, actually learn several game features. Granted, learning did help me maintain game integrity so that future campaigns wouldn't get ruined by civil wars.

After winning as Rome, Parthia, Massilia, and the Bretons, I decided that was enough.

Now I am playing No Man's Sky. Not entirely sure how to feel about it yet.

The entrance to Ash Canyon was in the first place I looked, so that was lucky. It's kinda spooky in there.

Had a bit of PoE hangover for a couple of weeks, came back for Mayhem. Got my character to lvl 50 for reward, and got another hangover. Mayhem was fun for a while but got stale quickly.

Though it did offer some fun, new ways to die. Especially in the Vaal side areas where there wasn't enough room and you got the entire Mayhem stuff dropped at you at once.

I played Mayhem to level 50 also. I hit 50 in Act 5 in Oriath Square. I was pretty overpowered and the play was fun. I especially liked harbinger mods. I never bothered to ascend. The fact of it being a void league kept me from playing further. I will play the endless Delve to 50 too. The starting weapons look fun for a marauder melee build.

I also hit lvl 50 in Oriath square...actually in a side area of it, where I previously died in a funny way. About 6-7 strongboxes piled up next to each other due to Mayhem. One of last ones I opened turned out to have both "freezes player" and "explodes nearby corpses". Of course, I had no freeze protection and screen was filled with corpses...
